Digital Storm Black Ops gaming rig is exactly what you expect
Sure, there might not be too many surprises with a completely customizable gaming rig called "Black Ops" from high-end manufacturer Digital Storm, but that doesn't make it any less impressive. This latest rig naturally adds the latest Core i7 processors as options, along with ATI 5970 graphics, and Digital Storm's own Sub-Zero Liquid Cooling System, which promises to handle your overclocked processors and graphics cards with ease. You'll also get your choice of four different, equally intimidating-looking chassis, and a fairly generous three-year warranty (even on overclocked machines). Prices obviously vary quite a bit depending on the configuration, but the standard "Extreme" rig will set you back $3,102.

Will it play...oh...I see.
Now THIS is a boutique gaming computer company. Stop covering iBUYPOWER, and all those other ones that have 0 customer service and C- rating on the Better Business Bureau website. If you're going to spend a couple thousand dollars on a prebuilt gaming desktop, and you're not ordering from FalconNW, or these guys. You're doing it wrong.
@Prevacator
I'd argue that if you spend more than about $1K on a gaming desktop, you're doing it wrong.
Nothin' like forking out $3500 for a computer and having it be worth 1/3 of that within 18 months. But if you're super rich, it doesn't matter. Nobody spends $3K on a computer because they think it's a good investment, admittedly.
@crawdad689
Frankly if you're getting a high-end desktop, or any desktop really your best bet would really be building it. Best bang for your buck, with nigh limitless customization, since you're building it, and you choose what parts you want.
My point is, if you are spending a couple thousand dollars at a boutique store, at least do it at a good one. Going to iBUYPOWER or CyberPowerPC is tantamount to just throwing money into a shredder. They use horrible component, cheap power supplies, and they can't ship for crap. Your chances of receiving your desktop from one of those with a broken graphics card inside are pretty high. And good effing luck with trying to reach their customer service lines.
@crawdad689
i spent 2000 on my PC including peripherals last december (2008).
no game coming out this year is going to render it obsolete at all.
and with an overclocked e8400 at 4.2ghz, the only upgrade i would need when the time is right is a new graphics card.
I sure hope their systems are better than their website, because it seriously sucks.
@DarkLord7854
What would you like the website to look like?
@spsfinest
Be nice if it actually worked, click on anything takes ages, and clicking customize gives you a nice error message.
Did I mention it's slow?
@DarkLord7854
I've never had a problem with their website, nor have I ever received any errors. Frankly I wish more sites were like theres. Others hardly provide enough information, or as many customization options as Digital Storm.
@Prevacator
I've been letting their site load for 5 minutes now and it hasn't loaded anything. Not something I would like to see in every website.
zomg!
did you see the sniper case :D so huge
dvd burner looks so tiny and swallowed by the case :D
definitely some monster cases. I somehow like em although I am the minimalist all in one pc guy :)
Why is this news covered by engadget
@andrewpc1
is a cpu not a gadget?
@Gi The story is not about a CPU the story is about a boutique computer builder that makes high end machines.
I bet one of these opens everyday.
@Gi While a CPU is technically a gadget by definition, I get the feeling that you are one of those people who calls computers CPU's. This makes me go -_-
@andrewpc1 If gaming desktops aren't covered, why should tablets, netbooks and laptops be?
And if netbooks and tablets aren't, then why should phones be?
And if phones aren't, then why should... etc.
It's a technology blog, what do you want from these hard working slaves?
@andrewpc1
Because its an advertisement! Engadget is probably getting a ton of money for it. The post itself is WORTHLESS.
@andrewpc1
I bought one of their computers four years ago. They aren't new. They opened in 2001, but that's like half a lifetime ago in the computer world.
@bondsbw
I didn't say they were new
I was saying that there is a new company like this everyday so why is this news.
I know these are crazy sickly sick machines, but do they really offer 2.5K+ worth of value over just buying a console??? (provided that you are buying it for gaming and not some sort of graphic design)
@yulebellow If you're into it, yes there is a huge amount of performance increase.
A computer nerd/gamer isn't happy with the measly fps achieved by a 360, and lack of DX11 or AA...
Personally, I'm a 360 gamer, but if MW2 was on Games For Windows Live, along with some other worth playing titles, I would definitely game on PC (I still want to play with my LIVE account mates)
@yulebellow
uh, no.
What does offer huge value over consoles is a sub $1000 gaming PC you build yourself.
@yulebellow I'm hoping the next generation of consoles are powerful enough to have AA on all games and a minimum of at least 30FPS.
For all the nice looking plumbing inside, the specs are nothing that would raise an eyebrow at a LAN party. You would think that with such big water pipes/cooling systems, they would provide a factory overclock.
@Nitesh
They provide overclock. What are you talking about?
@Nitesh
Factory overclocks are for noobs who can't do it themselves.
Well this post was worthless. I wonder how much Engadget got paid to post this " ADVERTISEMENT".
I bought my PC from them in October. The system has run flawlessly.
Yet another tower gaming PC filled with lights. Boring. Really, how many times will you be enjoying those lights on the case instead of actually using the PC to play games? I rather see a slimmer and more compact form factor than this light-circus. When you're playing games, what matters are the components, not the fancy lights.
@pika2000
Yeah, have fun fitting 5970s and water cooling in a "slimmer" form factor.
You need a full size case for components like that. It's not as if those ricer lights add any size to the case. Ever heard of proper airflow?
@Prevacator If you like a boring light-circus designs like this, then by all means. I don't, especially for the price.
@pika2000 Seriously, I don't understand why high-end PC builders put all those silly lights. It's like putting flames and a huge spoiler on a Vette. An all black brushed aluminum case would be way more sweet.
but will they blend?
Well I guess I won't be spending my 4 grand there. It is a bit of a over glamorized boutique.I have admit though they don't try to nickel and dime you in fact they suggest a build much lower than you are willing to spend
