HTC Legend breaks cover on KPN's site for March launch
We've little doubt at this point that HTC's Legend is definitely real and likely coming to a shop near you, but now we've got what seems to be the first official confirmation by a company that would have authority on the matter. The Netherlands' KPN has thrown up the Legend on its site for availability likely in March, offering the Android-loving Dutch the opportunity to sign up for updates -- in other words, no money's exchanging hands just yet. As far as we can tell, these appear to be official shots of the phone offered up by HTC, so odds are good that KPN simply jumped the gun -- the phone is almost certainly destined for an official unveil either by HTC or a carrier partner at MWC in a few days' time. There are some specs here, too: 256MB of RAM and 512MB of ROM on board, AGPS, WiFi, an FM radio, 3.2-inch display and 5 megapixel camera, making this an honest-to-goodness Hero successor -- and it even looks like the Legend name will be carried over for launch. Any other carriers care to step up and help bust this thing wide open?

Updates for Hero can't be far off!! Wooooooooot!
@TRLKOR
Sprints taking waaaaaay too long....... Grrrrr
So "HTC Legend"... Whatever happened to 'Quietly Brilliant' HTC? :)
@PATRICKmcnicholl
lol they're now "loudly brilliant"
The 3.2 inch screen is a little less brilliant :(
@gargle Well, it's not supposed to be the top android phone, that's what the bravo/passion is for.
Crap sakes I'd love to see something on the roadmap for high end WinMo devices from HTC....the ratio of Android devices to WinMo is getting a little embarrassing.
What happened to the HTC Star and Superstar??? I was liking the reported specs of those.
It's an excellent looking device. I really like the mixture of silver and black.
@Mr Oos
0h noes!!! teh silver and blakc izz strait coppy off teh iphonez.. appel ftw omfgbbq
/sorry, just had to. no, but it looks nice.
Where's the 720p video recording HTC that was leaked?
Bravo or something?
Also whatever happened to HTC's tegra device(s)?
The SuperStar was supposed to be Tegra1 based, that never came, would be nice to see a Tegra2 based MID or phone...I am kind of sick of all these quallcomm CPU based devices; they honestly aren't that great.
Uhm, yea, the X10 is the much more interesting Android device in that picture.
@Luxury Guy
Uhm, yea, the X10 is the much more expensive Android device in that picture. It's called market segmentation.
Totally off-topic, but as a Dane I just realized that I understood half of the above Dutch. Legend I guess :o
@Jakob I'm Dutch and I understand a lot of Danish words to, in fact I'm going to Danmark soon. But ontopic: I think the Hero looks better.
@Jakob: I guess it's mutual. Since I can partially understand Danish at times as a Dutchie.
Now I don't know this carrier's bands for sure, but unless there are some modified X10s and n900s going on the market, it's 2100/1700 HSDPA.
Grrrr, T-Mobile again?!
Why do they have to have such crappy coverage?
@landstander
N900 and X10 work in global 3G network. 3G should be there in every European country.
@Pdexter
Yeah I don't care much that the Europeans get a fancy new phone. I'm still waiting on a AT&T android phone. Hopefully the Nexus One rumors are true.
why dont american carriers have awesome phones like this? damn tehm!
@Nikhil S *as many awesome phones
Think it's kinda lame there are already better phones out. Nexus one. And even better on the horizon.
Like I said before, HERO 2 FTW!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Now sprint needs to hurry with my 2.1 for my hero!
that is hideous... glad it's over there, and not over here
With all the smartphones coming out, I truly feel this one is for the consumer in mind who pinches his pocket but yet wants a satisfying experience without too much demand. I had eyed the x10, and being here in Canada, the price tag of 720 euros doesn't work for me. Htc Legend using the lesser expenses snapdragon processor will bring that necessary price cut. I'm gunning for a $500 cdn price point, if so I'm sooooo down, W0OT HTC, you make some damn sexy handsets!
Did people really like the way the mouthpiece of the G1 jutted out like it is in this picture? I understand that it makes speaking into the phone easier and clearer, but it must be annoying to have that in your pocket.
@Center
That's a touchpad, just like the Hero and the G1 got a trackball.
I live in the Netherlands. KPN is one of the biggest providers over here so this definitely will be true!
Which Carrier is getting this?
My 1-year upgrade is available March 1st, and I'm looking at switching from an outdated Treo to an Android phone...I'm on Sprint, though, so the best I can get at the moment is the Hero, with no real word yet on the rumoured Supersonic.
Sprint you will be my hero if you pick this up! Im still within my 30 day return policy so hope to it.
Some people seem to forget the specs when comparing Android phones: as if all of them were competing with each other with the same retail price.
The specs tells me it's a true successor for the Hero (no pun intended), it got the slower ARM 11, so it shouldn't be compared to HTC Bravo, Nexus One, or iPhone 3GS.
The processor is mainly the biggest difference and it USUALLY defines two distinct price categories,(with some exceptions like the Acer Liquid), but other features will also affect the end price, of course.
ARM 11: Used in lot's of Nokia models like E93 (from 06, remember??), E71, N82, N95, N97, N810; HTC Dream, Magic, Hero; Apple iPhone etc...
ARM Cortex A8: iPhone 3GS, Nokia N900, SE Xperia X10, Google Nexus One, SE Satio; Motorola Milestone; HTC HD2, Bravo...
So many choices. [head hurt]
Nexus One
HTC HD2
HTC Legend
Dell Mini 5
Obvious iPhone ripoff is obvious...
Another failed attempt from HTC in the woodworks....not surprised at all.
And it's ugly to boot like over 50% of their phones.
@TheLionOfAzzalle
It's not.
It follows the HTC looks, from G1, Magic and Hero:
- Curved design
- Four buttons
- Touchpad/Trackball
Nope, there isn't much iPhone about it. Only HTC.

I want the Nexus One but will wait for my HTC Bravo...
This thing, is awesomely ugly.
The display is to small.
