I must be confused about this feature, i assumed it was for Sony's 3D tvs they showed off at CES? Is it for all HD tvs; if so, i hate it less?
@Pocker09
5-7 years for 3D games? Are you kidding? NVIDIA has 3D Vision running on PCs right now. Games don't have to be specially coded for this to work. If they are specially coded it can make the 3D effect even better but it is not required. Once again, ANY game that uses 3D graphics can be used with the 3D Vision setup. The PS3 just happens to have an NVIDIA made graphics chip in it.... There will be 3D televisions and blu-rays hitting the market THIS Summer, and from what I've read 3D enhanced games will be as well, including Gran Turismo 5.
Once again, games DO NOT have to be specifically coded for use with 3D glasses and 3D televisions like movies have to be. The depth information is already in there with games. I'm guessing most if not all games on the PS3 will work in 3D from the beginning.
Now the downside. If a game isn't optmized for 3D sometimes the 3D effect is not all that great. But for the most part I think people will be surprised how great it will be. 3D Vision runs great on PCs, I'm guessing they will look great as well on the PS3
@PDAisAok
Dang, you didn't have to be so harsh there. I was unaware that most games can easily be turned into 3d games. Wouldn't a game specifically coded for 3-D outputted to a 3-D Tv, be the "true" 3-D experiance? And the reason I said 5-7 years was because i was talking about and assuming you'd need both 3-D games and a 3-D TV.
Plus, IMHO, 3-D gaming won't pick up; i'll pass until they can just give me a helmet that taps into my mind and makes me think i'm in the game.
it would be pretty kick ass if they redesigned to the web browser for 3d
What's stopping the 360 from having a update to do 3D??
Its all very well enabling 3D output on the PS3 but if you change the way the data is output doesn't that mean that a current hdmi 1.3 enabled av-amp/receiver will no longer be able to receive the signal. I could be persuaded to buy a new 3D compatible tv but not an av-amp/receiver as well.
Isn't this why dedicated 3D blu-ray players are gonna have two hdmi outputs one for the tv and one for the av-amp..
@adriancal
I have a 3D DLP and a PC with NVIDIA's 3DVision hooked up to it. Video goes through HDMI just fine and Im assuming a video passthrough like an AV receiver wont make any difference. The PS3 WILL need another piece of hardware, that being the IR transmitter for the 3D glasses. This is unless the television has one built in. 3D DLPs have a port on them for 3D IR emitters. This allows them to sync the refresh rate of the glasses with the televisions refresh rate. I don't know how Sony will get past this without extra hardware. I really don't think it's possible
where do you sign up to be a developer?
Take that xbox!
I would buy a 3D TV this year if I didn't have to build a house. With the World Cup coming, plus games and movies on way too.
It's a shame that to this day we still have lames complianning about not being able to play PS2 games =/ I never could understand the logic behind that and I have a 60GB. What is someone doing with a bunch PS2 games and no PS2? =/ If you were too stingy to buy a PS3 when it came out in it 1st 2 yrs you wouldn't have this issue so that's on you. And if you was too stupid enough and impatient to trade in ur PS2 for a non b/c PS3 then sorry my friend that also on you. Angain I have a 60GB and I rarely use the feature, not b/c I don't have PS2 games but B/c I don't have the time! With work, family and the time have to playing games I don't have time to go back and remenise. I'm the type of person that when I play a game I play it to be good @ it, especially online games. Why in the world would I want to waiste my time playing a game that i've beaten before and know like the back of my hand?! I still believe that PS2 games will be best effective as an on the go game via the PSN in the near future. But until then I'll keep enjoying playing up to date games not used $5 gamestop PS2 games
@JezerVenti9
Maybe, you're overlooking the idea that someone once had a working PS2 that broke? Or in my case, the PS2 is a "family" toy so when i move out i won't have the option to take the PS2, but i do indeed have about 20 PS2 games that i personally bought. Now, i just bought a pretty little PS3 and i'd still enjoy to play my PS2 games when i move out next month; why should i have to buy a 99 dollar PS2 when my 299 PS3 has the power but not the ability to play PS2 games.
And just cause you had the opportunity to own a backwards compatible PS3 doesn't me others have, and just cause you don't have the time to play PS2 games on your PS3 doesn't mean others do.
My point, is there really a need for you to complain about others asking for a feature sony should include? How does it effect you? Why does it upset you?
@JezerVenti9
Sony HAD it...people complained about the cost and only ~10-15% even wanted the feature...Sony removed it to help cut the costs...people still bitch about it. Some people have nothing better to do than complain.
Best investment I did, PS3 does it all.
Hmm
I would rather have other options in new firmwares (720p & 480p HDMI fixes for what they broke in 3.10, better web browser, and stupid MKV video container support) than a 3D video option few people will use for up to a few years.
