Just show us the HTC Supersonic already so all the Android fanboys can be content and we can move onto other devices and OS's and offerings. This "me me too!" approach to Android on random bits of hardware is just... bleh.
It will be interesting if Google sells this one along side the Nexus One on their /phone url. I believe that was the stated original intention; to have phones from different manufacturers listed next to each other and available for anyone to purchase independent of a wireless carrier.
@mkriedel Yes, just like in any phone shop here in good ol' Norway :)
I like it, or at least the way it looks.
Wonder why they're underclocking it, though.
@espentan My guess is to extend battery life, since most apps don't need the full 1Ghz power. Dynamic clocking (something equivalent to EIST) would be a better solution though.
@r3loaded That's what I currently do on my rooted DROID. I let it run at 1ghz when I'm using it, but when I put it to sleep and turn the screen off, it underclocks to 250mhz. I have zero stability problems.
@SuiXide -
i didnt know a rooted droid runs on 1ghz o_0
@adamlovezu yup, have had mine running at 1.1Ghz. Now have it set at1.0 GHz and it runs very stable - haven't had a crash or lockup yet. It's been run at 1.3Ghz +, but I don't know how stable it is there. 850-1000 MHz seems to be the sweet spot for me.
Does this mean the original Acer Liquid won't be getting an OS update? Have been waiting for an official update on it but if that 'aint happening I'm gonna have to bite the bullet and root it.
@tobeconfirmed i will never buy another android phone again if the current acer liqiuid owners with 1.6 wont get upgraded to 2.1, or maybe never an acer again. i will prob only ever buy the official google phone (i.e nexus 1,2,3 .... etc)
it's fkn bullshit, how hard is it to release a rom to flash it to 2.1? 2.1 has been out for a month now, comon acer get with it, give support to the what is a decent phone.
@tobeconfirmed
I sure hope so. I got a 10 day old Liquid :-/
Anyone find this phone as homely as I do?
@Luffy
I actually like the way it looks. If their intention is to sell it along side the N1, then that would explain why it's under clocked. Wouldn't want to out-do the flagship...
I didn't realise the Android browser was known as Chrome.
I love the design tho. Will the original Liquid be getting some 2.1 love?
Oh GAWD, perfect phone except it doesn't run Andr... oh wait. Guess I can't eff up this article with my dumb Android comment.
Pixmania has it in stock for 320 euro (http://www.pixmania.nl/nl/nl/4029403/art/acer/liquid-s100-wit.html?srcid=556&Partenaire=tweakers&CodePromo=oui). That looks like pricing information to me...
@ikkefc3 : the only Acer A1 on market with Android is with 1.6. So yes, you can find Acer Android phone looking exactly like the one on picture - but not with 2.1.
Well, that's what overclockers are for.
Sounds amazing, any word on multi-touch though?
I have the acer liquid with 1.6 and it has been noted that the original acer would be getting 2.1 sometime in March. I guess acer figured they would rerelease the phone as the specs of the phone are too beastly for measly 1.6. But 1.6 owners should be able to extract the ROM and place it on their phones.
@iakona
Sorry to say this but, I looked at both devices on GSMArena. Their specs are totally identical. Thus, I doubt that the older liquid would get the upgrade unless, the e was released to let users know the difference in the handsets. Meaning they are coming with the latest firmware. And the original only has the 1.6.
However, if this is the case, I see why they have trouble selling handsets. The smarter thing would be just to release the newer ones with the upgraded software and just release an upgrade. There has to be something different about the two besides the name and the firmware though.
Also, many people already have custom roms(not many as the kernel was released about 15 days ago) running @ 1.0ghz. It seems only some phones are able to support 1.0ghz without crash.
If that's a 3.5 inch screen, that's a HUUUUUUUUUGE bezel
My guess is the Liquid and the Liquid e are both one and the same (that's probably obvious). I'm sure there is ALOT of Liquid in stock sitting on shelves. Acer isn't going to recall all of these just to upgrade to 2.1 and rebox them. What's going to probably happen is all the 1.6 devices will have an "free upgrade to 2.1" sticker slapped onto them. Acer also could very well ship a tool in "their" 2.1 which could up the clock back to normal levels, like the Samsung Omnia 2. That way, they can sell off their existing stock.
i wish we could change the skin, simple things on phones seem to have gone backwards since nokia days
