Windows Mobile 7 interface and device leaked on MWC banners
The eagle-eyed folks of learnbemobile have come across this stupendous leak of Microsoft's forthcoming Windows Mobile 7 OS. It would appear that some last minute alterations were taking place under the covers in Barcelona, though apparently no one bothered to check if there were cameras around before lifting said covers. You can see what appears to be some kind of Xbox Live integration -- which was heavily rumored already -- taking up a corner of what's presumably a new home screen for the OS. There are also big, finger-loving notice icons for calls, text messages, and email, with sections for Facebook, Pictures and "Me" filling out the rest. We don't have any more info than these few shots, and the aforementioned site just has the images camped out on its Facebook page, but it definitely looks to be the real deal. If this is the new face of Windows Mobile, color us excited for today's event -- it looks like a radical departure (or at least a crazy skin). You can check out a few more shots in the gallery below.

Hmmm.. looks OK. Would want some scope for customisation though.
@thunderbollock
And does anyone know what Xbox Live will bring to the phone? Will it provide actual games, or just chat and account info? I was assuming that Xbox Live was really only useful to Xbox owners, but I am sure it must be more than that.
@thunderbollock
On the Xbox Live square, it most clearly says "games." I am assuming (and hoping and praying) that it means you can play games on your phone ***over XBL***. I do believe that this was a rumor, and one that would make tons of sense at that.
@thunderbollock I think this is terrible without customization, but with it, I really like it. 1 main page for my favorites and then a spotlight-type search at the click of a home button, like the iPhone, and I have everything a very convenient click or search away.
@Padilla7921 Yeah, I vaguely recall that rumor being linked to one reason that they took the original xbox off of Live.
@thunderbollock the interface featured looks like the side panel on the zhd interface, which can be customized to any config. you want. i myself saw this on my Zune HD and went crazy! the edges of the device, look very similar to the Zune HD, the rounded off square bezel. I need this phone.
Reminds me of the Instinct's Favorites page.
@thunderbollock
This looks EXACTLY like the Zune HD's quickplay menu. I wouldn't be surprised at all if it turned out to be that. If it's anything like the ZHD's menu, it'll be customizable.
@thunderbollock
i know you are being sarcastic, arent you???
@unwynd
No, not really. I was assuming that the image is of a home screen, but I don't see the time, date, calendar etc. I wouldn't want a games link, Facebook status and a picture of myself on the homescreen and would rather see weather, time, date, next apointment, links to apps etc.
This probably isn't the homescreen though, and I am sure it would be customisable as we all use our phones for different things. Only a little longer to wait!
It isn't very attractive to me.
@R1039 I agree, very disappointed. But I also think the Zune interface is kind of fugly too. I really hope you can change around the interface.
@R1039 I think it looks great, but then again beauty is in the eye of the beholder.
@R1039 Well, I guess you could say it's interface is kinda fresh amongst the sea of phones with 'polished icons' on their screens
@R1039
You're right. The icons for phone and text looks pretty plain. Couldn't they have gotten a 3D look to it?
This is gonna suck ass. And next to the facebook icon .. is that an arrow? Seriously .. we have to press the arrow to slide to the next screen?
@Axitaxiwaxi /s right?
@Axitaxiwaxi That's how the Zune HD interface is setup. If you've ever used it you would realize that it's actually very intuitive and efficient. WM7 is going to kick ass!
@Axitaxiwaxi
Whilst the arrow may function as a clickable icon as well, it also, in all probability, indicates direction for swiping/sliding to the next home screen etc - current Windows Mobile phones allow swiping gestures and not just within HTC's TouchFlo.
@R1039
I think we should wait to see it in action before making such comments, I bet if you took a picture of the Zune HD interface it would just look like a few lines of words, but when you USE it, it's a completely different experience. This is what I'm going to be hoping for in WM7.
@R1039 It's certainly not a look you expect from MS..
I don't mean it's bad, I just mean, everything is big and easy to click.. what's going on?!
After all that secrecy; they still haven't officially announced that Windows 7 even exists, they let a picture leak hours before the conference.
@TheGM
Oh, i can assure you that Windows 7 exists, i am using it right now to type this comment. Its magic, isn't it?
@Kavoriken How revolutionary. You just.. do*?
*creepy reference to Scott
@TheGM
It's pretty clear you've been living under a rock.
@TheGM
More than a leak, it's an upskirt!
Looks rather nice. And I am a mega Apple fanboy.
@jack112006
Well you are on engadget.
@jack112006
I have no idea why.. when you said "Mega apple Fanboy" it played in my head along with the power rangers theme..
Megaaaaaa aappleeeee Fanboysssssss YEAHHHHH!
/End Moment
@geekthree Godda##mnit ya got that song stuck in my head now =P.
We need MEGA APPLE FANBOY POWER NOW!!
aka ZZOORRRDSSS!!!!
That doesn't look functional nor pretty...
@Look4Wally How much more functional or pretty can a billboard be?
@Herr Synnberg +1
that looks mint. sold!
Aaahh... espionage like the good old days.
Interesting. this is going to be cool. this thing is going to have tegra i know it. i can feel it in my bones. HMMMMMMNNNNN there has to be a killer feature. can't wait to wake up tomorrow and see what up. ^_^
I'm excited... I'm excited! My iphone, not so much!
looks awesome. the device, too.
Wow, i love it...if it is relay what i think it is (like the first type of the Zune UI if you swipe your finger over the HD from left to the right) that will be great...
this looks HOT !!! My HD2 can't wait for it !
And I can't wait to know more :)
@smover Sorry, rumor has been confirmed that HD2 will NOT be upgradeable.
Looks promising. It seems MS came up with a whole new type of interface instead of just copying the icon style homescreens of iPhone/Android

Your comment is up on the Microsoft Windows Phone 7 Website

Congrats. and glad to see Microsoft is reading these blogs and comments :O
@Drybones5 WTF? :>
Wonder if that's an actual device that'll be launching.
Loving the square edges, when done properly it can look amazing! Now we just gotta see it in action.
Hmm, looks pretty cool if you ask me; be interesting to see what's under that home screen though.
Looks very promising...
:-/
I will assume this is for perhaps a casual-oriented version of Windows Phone 7 rather than the business/professional version. Looks typical though... something like MOTOBLUR or something of Symbian.
