HTC Legend hands-on (updated with video)

OK, we admit it -- we're complete HTC fanboys here today at MWC. But c'mon, can you really blame us? Today's HTC launch -- including the HD mini, Legend, and Desire -- while not surprisingly lacking a Windows Phone 7 announcement, was still full of some very, very fine hardware. The Legend is an all-metal set -- the housing is the frame of the handset -- and like the other launches, this one features the updated version of Sense, a new optical trackpad (which seemed to behave quite well) and a stunning 3.2-inch AMOLED display. The Legend also seems pretty sturdy, as demonstrated by HTC's CEO Peter Chou when he smacked it against the wall during the press conference. The take away here is this phone is pure beauty and class, and an absolutely huge upgrade (as far as aesthetics go anyway, we'll hold judgment til we can really test it out) from the HTC Hero it replaces. Follow on for a gallery of photos and check back soon, as we're definitely going to get some video once we can get it into some better light.

@choufleur47 Uh... The phone in the picture is running the Android OS...
@bstump of course it is. im talking about the customisation that HTC did on the OS, the Sense UI wich is amasing. Watch the vid you'll see what i mean
This guy did a better preview(?) of the phone with showcasing pinch and zoom that the guy with the HTC Desire
HTC, thanks for another awesome phone design.
BUT FOR THE LOVE OF ALL THAT'S HOLY, CAN WE GET A PHYSICAL KEYBOARD ON ONE OF THESE MODELS FOR CHRIST'S SAKES
thank you. :(
My Nexus One just got jealous. This thing is extremely hot!
@serialtoon Didn't your mom tell you not to touch hot metal?! Now go to your room.
Doesn't aluminum result in poorer signal? See original iPhone.
@who
The video states the the antenna is under the plastic panel at the base of the device, so it shouldn't be a problem.
@Muddy The radio was under the plastic on the original iPhone as well. Still got constantly two bars less than a 3G side by side.
Metal casing is good. A little more screen space would have been very nice though. They do have space at the bottom
So how is Sprint going to ugly up this version?
Will the Legend work on Rogers in Canada?
I'm going to Europe in May, and if it'll work for me when I get back to Canada, I might have to get one in Europe :)
@MattWeiler It should if it's GSM
it looks super fast. I wonder if the eris' browsers will be as fast when it gets the update. DROID.
This phone looks amazing. I really like that UI and such.
Quick question, as I am completely newb with HTC phones and Android as well...
I know he showed off the Widgets feature, which was pretty neat. However, is there a way to get like individual apps from an "App Store" for the phone? Like games, GPS stuff, etc? Just curious... been an iPhone owner for a while and would like to try something new, and this device looks like a winner, imo.
Thanks in advance!
@Ambient80 Android does have a Marketplace.
google's looking good but I was really hoping for a touchpro 3 or something from htc's press conference... oh well I guess... it'd be pretty sick if they had a touchpro3 running wp7 that'd be really sick
I would like the larger screen of the SS but this phone certainly is nice. I'm just ready from Sprint to get anything new like this. My contract has been up almost three months now. I'm ready to try something new after 4+ years of using Palm Treos.
Do we know what wireless company this phone is coming to? Because I will switch to who it goes to.
