Kingston whips out speedy Class 10 16GB microSDHC card

While some camps are pumping out larger microSDHC cards, Kingston's done the world a favor by working on speed instead. The result is this Class 10 16GB microSDHC card -- possibly the world's fastest of its kind (at a minimum data transfer rate of 10MB/s). Who would need this, you ask? Well, there's the speed freak in your own self that you're trying to suppress, for starters, and don't forget all those snazzy phones that can do 1080p video recording. As with most nice things in life, this blistering card will cost you a fair bit -- $138 for the card sans adapters. Oh, go on, it's totally worth your liver.
Kingston Digital Ships Speedy Class 10 MicroSDHC Card
Large Capacity, Fast Performance a Perfect Match for Memory-Hungry Devices
FOUNTAIN VALLEY, Calif., Feb. 15 /PRNewswire/ -- Kingston Digital, Inc., the Flash memory affiliate of Kingston Technology Company, Inc., the independent world leader in memory products, today announced the release of a 16GB microSDHC Class 10 card. The high-capacity card complies with the SD™ Association Specification 3.00 to meet Class 10 requirements. The 16GB microSDHC card has a minimum data transfer rate of 10MB/sec. and ships either as a stand-alone microSDHC card or with adapters.
"With the new speed class, host devices such as high-definition cameras or the latest smartphones are being designed to optimize their write performance to take advantage of the more responsive memory card speeds," said Wendy Lecot, Flash card business manager, Kingston®. "Now that the Class 10 card specification is five times faster than a Class 2 card, users will see swifter copying and transferring of photos, music, videos and e-books when using a multi-format card reader such as the Kingston Media Reader or MobileLiteG2 with a PC.
Kingston takes mobility and versatility a step further with the addition of the SD adapter pack (Kingston part #: SDC10/16GB), and the SD and miniSD adapter pack (Kingston part #: SDC10/16GB-2ADP). Inserting the card into the SD adapter turns it into a large-storage, speedy SDHC card that can be used to capture continuous images or videos in digital cameras. Kingston also includes an adapter for other devices that utilize the miniSD form factor. Either adapter pack allows users to store all data on one card across multiple Class 10 device platforms.
The 16GB microSDHC Class 10 card is backed by a lifetime warranty, 24/7 tech support and legendary Kingston reliability. For more information visit www.kingston.com.

138 bucks, thats not too bad. It may not be totally necessary, but compared to other flash memory prices, 16GB for this price is totally swallowable
"totally swallowable"
Ha!
Yea, who said that again? It all seems so familiar, like something happened last night, but I can't quite put my finger on it...
@ROFL
Everyone wants to be a comedian, but few succeed.
Once they make a 32GB version of this, I'm buying a dozen of them! i have no idea what for, but i'm doing it!
@Addyct
Could be used wonderfully with the Sansa Clip+ :)
One major reason why I can't imagine techies would be binge drinkers. All the booze money would go to this stuff.
I'm buying it, fer sher.
now does it read faster than it writes as in most memory and if so I wonder how much faster?
OMG.
i wonder how fast a ext4 partition would open programs on my G1.
@djbootleg You're assuming the G1 can take advantage of a class 10 card.

Sorry, the browser cut out, and re-posted when I reloaded the page.
Yea, it triple posted me on the previous story.
Which side are you on? Speed? or capacity?
@TenaciousJ728
defently Capacity. Now show me a microSDHC with 64GB. I doint care how fast it is.
@TenaciousJ728 these are hot-swappable .. so you make do with a quick switch for now until the bigger stuff hits
@TenaciousJ728 I'm for fast internal speed and capacity. What good is having fast file transfers if apps don't run quick enough when running from inside the card?
So instead of shipping 32gb microSDHC cards they're working on class 10 16gb?!?!
Dear Sandisk,
Stop milking your captive consumers (us) for all they're worth. We want 32gb microSD and you've been able to produce it for a long time now so get on with it already.
@cyclone13 Kingston =/= Sandisk
flash memory has gotten ridiculous. i remember paying like $60 for a 512MB flash drive in high school. and yesterday i bought an 8GB for $15 AND it had Splinter Cell: Chaos theory loaded on it lol
great i can get one for my iphooonoooo thats right no memory card slot.
@reas0n555
I know! I'm never gonna be able to use one of these for my Nexus... whoa, hello there, beautiful 16 billion bytes of wholesome speediness!
Where can I get a 64GB microSDHC Card?
@Indyaner it will be a micro SDXC when it arrives .. already Toshiba and Panasonic are trialling them.
I don't have the article link at hand, but faster transfer rates means longer battery usage, since your phone is not waiting for the memory.
I don't know about you, but I think my liver costs more than $138.
I love it when they add to the box, will hold 9750 MP3's LOL..

Interesting read on Kingston MicroSD cards and the variation among them...
