Android-powered Motorola Backflip headed to AT&T on March 7 for $100 on contract

A look back on popular stories from today in a specific year.

Now that we've thrown 'em off the trail, use the form below to get in touch with the people at Engadget. Please fill in all of the required fields because they're required.
@dragonfli So, you've used it extensively, then? I'll wait for real world feedback, thanks.
@MrGlitch
Exactly, I will never understand people who complain about something they haven't used themselves and just shout 'Fail!' Android is targeting every demographic as is Motorola with devices like these. Not everyone needs or wants the next superphone and would be completely happy with this or something like it. I myself wouldn't mind trying it just to see how it is.
@MrGlitch
... It has a keyboard on the back, and a screen on the front. Both of which are exposed when the phone is supposedly "closed" and susceptible to damage. It has a touchpad.. on the back of a touchscreen.
Look man, we don't need to lick a turd to know it's going to taste bad. It's an "interesting" but ultimately stupid design.
"Seth" the "blogger" is god awful.
Thanks but I can read a spec sheet!
I have a CLIQ and the keyboard is just perfect.. tactile, not too big, and the caving on the keys is perfect. Making it 4 rows would be heaven.
The BACKFLIP's keyboard is a step BACK for absolutely no good reason, all of that extra spacing and the keyboard is still a 3 row?! And touch sensitive front keys, just for the sake of design? And the track pad in the back sounds completely unnecessary with a TOUCH screen and 4 way navi toggle.
@ASEVENSEE4
"Thanks but I can read a spec sheet!"
but you obviously can't count.
@logicbombde
Obviously you can't count. The keyboard has 3 rows.
@ASEVENSEE4
Step one, scroll to top of page.
Step two, count number of rows.
Step three, palm your face.
@BigJayDogg3
The keyboard has 3 rows of letters, are you looking at another phone? I'll give you the benefit of the doubt.
@ASEVENSEE4
Of course there's three rows of letters. Look at your keyboard. But look at the phone. THERE ARE FOUR ROWS.
I'd like to play with this phone. I mean, since everyone else here has already used it extensively, and knows "everything" about it, why shouldn't I?
I am switching to AT&T in spring. So I can't wait for these new AT&T phones.
@Techeternity sorry to hear that.
@HurricaneDC I know I get horrible coverage here in Chicago. But I have no choice. >:-(
@Techeternity
Really?
Still waiting for a smart-ish phone without a frigg'n data plan. No love for us poor folk.
@Roy Emblem
I wouldn't hold your breath. There won't be a smartphone sold in America for years that wont require a data plan.
Comparing this to the Devour on Verizon and Cliq on T-Mobile, I'm pretty sure the Cliq takes the cake, though I do think it's smart of AT&T to price the Backflip at only $100 (where as Verizon's trying to grab an extra $50 for the Devour which is ridiculous).
@kenny goo
The CLIQ does take the cake, it's got the most sensible design. I would love an all aluminum design but it's the best execution of Motorola's low end Android smartphones.
You know, as an iPhone user I was all about getting this phone until I watched several of the demo's for the WinS7 devices. I don't know what it is, but I really like the direction MS is taking with that platform. I think may have sucessfully caused me to freeze until their devices are ready in the fall.
Why get a device that has plenty of better ones that came after as a launch device? Can't A&T do anything right? And will this help their network load? No. Their android devices are going to suffer the same fate of dropped calls and bad coverage as ther other devices do!
I don't know wtf everyone here goes through with AT&T, but here in GA, they've got the most stable connection out of the top 3 providers when it comes to voice. I could care less about their 3G service because this thing also has WiFi and I'm constantly near hotspots (work and home). I'll have to get a data plan for the $100 price point, but it's $15 extra for me and I can deal with that.
*sigh. Is this going to be THE only Android phone with AT&T 3G support? Will Motorola sell it unlocked?
@pika2000
According to AT&T, there's supposed to be a few more coming in the next few months.
I'm patiently waiting with my wallet fat.
Will you need to get the Internet plan with this phone? I can't afford a $30 a month data plan. This phone seems pretty cool can't wait to test it at the At&t store
Does anybody know where Backflip is made? I want to add it to my "made in where?" website: http://www.ProductFrom.com but can’t find any info about its origin. I'll be also thankful for a small picture of phone or box label, with "made in" info (please send to: admin [at] productfrom [dot] com)
Did u see the web page how fast it loaded.....lol ..dats cause there was like nothing to load... practically blank

From all available Android devices AT&T chosen the worse one. Filmsy piece with bad design, and (even on this short video) non-responsive small screen. AT&T sacrificing all for their exclusivity with iPhone. Pitty. I was waiting for some good Andro-phone (e.g. N1). Will go to Verizon, probably, when they will have their.
Man I'm really started to hate AT&T to get all the ugly ass phones here it's a nice price, but why would MOTO put a key board behind the phone sounds kinda stupid to me and another thing is if the keys are behind it and you keep flipping it too many times it's going to broke. IF YOU AT&T STOP GETTING CHEAP UGLY PHONES I'M CANCELING MY CONTRACT PERIOD!! I think AT&T help design that ugly phone with them.

After seeing this so many times, I actually grew to the cute little thing
The market was from 1.5 , please dont tell me they are going to release an already out dated device!
I want this phone imma get all 5 of the phones AT&T releases. Go Android.
This phone looks terrible! I'm tired of at&t half-assing it
