Archos said to have two new Android tablets on track for CeBIT
We've already seen a whole slew of Archos renders leak ahead of CeBIT, and it looks like the company itself has now confirmed that it'll have at least two new devices on hand at the show. Details are still pretty light, of course, but the company's German PR firm has reportedly said that Archos will debut two new "low-cost" Android tablets that are "specifically designed for use at home." One of those is rumored to be a new Archos 7 tablet, while the other remains a bit of a mystery -- although the combination of "low-cost" and "home use" seems to suggest that 3G might be out of the question for either of them.

Want.
All these companies might as well start making phones if they want a shot a making some money. They have a better shot with phones instead of standalone Android devices.
@aubreyq Yeah, the Vision 3 has a camera (whaaa?). They might as well put a SIM-radio on it. =P
@Hazdaz
Archos said a lot of things.
What it actually does is a totally different matter.

But will it run windows phone 7 series?
@aubreyq It seems there will be a big market for chrome when it finally comes
@broli No. It uses ARM
@aubreyq
tell that to iPod Touch
@Hazdaz what kind of touch screen it will have resistive or capacitive
i prefer the capacitive because its very resistant over time..
@Hazdaz It is not certain if Archos will use their own software to play the media or if they will choose to use Windows Media Center. They will have to work fast in order to get it ready, as they do not want any problems due to them rushing the decision: http://bit.ly/archos-tablet-preview
Eh I'm over Archos tbh. They always coming out with something "amazingly awesome superb" and when it comes out it just fails.
@CJisohsocool True. Putting the Grandfather of Atom onto the 9 didn't see like a good idea to me.
However, the players who don't need to do all those apps, Windows, Android bla bla, the Vision players, are actually pretty good; cheap for what you want them to do. I'm actually looking forward to the release of the Vision 3 (sans the camera. Come on)
@CJisohsocool
Same here. They seem to come out with bulky, expensive devices that need lots of extra money after you buy it just to use all the features. pass.
They can make all the new ones they want. With their customer service and locking down the os so you are forced to by extras.......no thanks. Never again.
@Showbiz Forced to to what?

An announcement for android 2.1 on my Archos 5 IT would be grand Archos.
Make it so!
@ Engadget
Did I get banned from replying to comments or something? The vote/reply/report thing is gone for me in Safari.
@yulebellow I don't think that merits banning. It must be a glitch. Try the article with a different browser. I can see the buttons fine on Firefox.
@N900
Ahhhh there they are, I'm just so used to Engadget always working on Safari. Thank you
@yulebellow
Yeah it is a glitch just delete your cookies it will return, happened with the reply box in my Firefox too.
When I heard how locked down their devices were it completely turned me off. I'm thinking anyone who will want a tablet will suck it up and pick up the ipad. It'll probably be worth the extra cost.
@Dieselboy28 Archos locking down OS? nope. Android is the most open of the OS out there. And Archos provides even a SDE firmware that lets developers install whatever alternative Linux OS they want. A few days ago, someone even figured out to root the default Archos Android OS.
By seeing this and all the tablet related posts lately It has become quite obvious that Microsoft was quite ahead of it's time when they released the tablet pc back in the day.
I have had tablet pc's since 2004 and It never really appealed the general public, of course everyone would look amazed when I wrote my notes using an electromagnetic resonance pen in a tablet pc instead of paper and pencil. What has changed now? what is it the people needed to get into the tablet world? was it capacitive screens? Touch optimized OS's? what do you think?
It seems like they should stop pushing out new products and fix the ones they already have.
Why would I throw my money behind an Android device when instead of getting upgrades, they just come out with a new product with the new version of Android and expect me to buy it?
When manufacturers start supporting their Android devices with os upgrades, I'll hop on board. This is one area Apple has everyone else beat.
@reiththestud Archos has released new Android OS updates every couple of weeks for the last 6 months. Apple releases iphone updates only once or twice per year.
@Atkins Archos supports DivX, MKV, 720p, HDMI, Multi-tasking, mass storage, Samba/Upnp, up to 500GB, down to $249 which Apple does not support.
Archos It woulda been nice to see your 4" Android phone at MWC...
They are horrible with names aren't they?
How ridiculous would it be if Apple had announced the "Apple 10" on January 27th? >_>
@jellotime91 Well, that would have been a better name than "iPad". Just saying =/.
Can anyone report on the availability of apps on the existing Archos Android tablet? They seem to be advertising it as a feature, but I haven't seen any reviews about actual app availability and so forth.
@cobaltage
I got my dad an Archos 5 IT for Christmas, since the 1.6 update he has had availability to an app store. It seems to have limited titles but is quite usable, the browser isn't too bad either.
there is also a web browser
@Hazdaz
5 - Android
7 - should be ChromeOS
9 - 7
Wow Archos, you just BARELY, albeit probably temporarily, stopped me from getting a SmartQ V7 instead of waiting for this. Of course if you don't have a really near ship date by the time CeBIT rolls around you'll probably have lost me as a buyer anyway.
China company already do it very well.
and it can even support 3 OS : linux, android and winCE.
http://en.smartdevices.com.cn/Products/Smartq7/
and only cost 7500 TND. or 233USD

But I will never buy such kind of trash after iPad is out.
Because it really bad taste.
(I did consider buy it before)
Is it just me, or just because Android is free, manufactures are spitting out half-baked products left and right?
I bought almost every Archos of every generation.
And I was always dissapointed at the end.
My last mistake was an Archos 5 tablet with Android that came out of the box with a big red stuck pixel in the middle of the screen.
Does low-cost mean crappy processor (again)?
Seriously, in what are they thinking? The last tablet was so friggin' slow.
Now I see where Dell got their design idea to the Mini 5 from...
If you can get a hold of the ROM for this new Tablet do you think you could port it to the older Archos 7 media tablet? The older media tablet ran a version of Linux. Or do you think porting Android perhaps cyanogen or the like? Would be fun!
