Dell Mini 5 docking station with HDMI port spotted in bizarre Greek video
Wow, some nice gadget fairy has just made our wish come true! Soon after our Dell Mini 5 impressions post went live, eagle-eyed reader unclepain reported that the phone's docking station has made a quiet appearance in T3 Greek Edition's bizarre hands-on video (seriously, we get the "DELLICIOUS" joke, but does that poor bloke really have to stand like that throughout the video?). According to the tiny bit of English we heard, the dock will have HDMI output and a USB port (for connecting to the computer, we presume) on the back. You can also see the short transparent back support when the presenter undocks the phone. Now, bundle this with Mini 5 or throw it à la carte at a reasonable price and we're sold. Eccentric footage after the break.
[Thanks, unclepain]

DAMN, that is a sexy dock.
My want factor is over 9000
@Drybones5
Wait just a darn sec....where did they get THAT Dell Mini 5 :(
How are these freaks and geeks getting these things?
@Drybones5
Yeah, seriously. Where do people keep getting these things!?
Dell's leaking out real product faster than people can make up apple rumors.

@Drybones5
This smells of strategic viral advertising...
Adviratorial if you will...
@Drybones5
I really do hope Apple is taking notes on this.
@Drybones5 I don't know what with all the hype with this thing... It's basically a nexus one with a bigger form, but not so much bigger.
I'm not an Apple fanboy. I WILL NOT get the iPad until they put multitasking in it or there's a hack that enable multitasking for it (I believe there will be a hack since the iPhone or iTouch can do multitasking after jailbroken).
LOOK AGAIN: This thing has a 5" touch screen. It's too big for a phone. and too small for a netbook replacement. I don't know what kinds of weed people at Dell smoke when they design this thing?
WHY DON'T THEY MAKE IT 9"-10"? How the hell am I going to take note in my class with this 5" screen? Buy a bluetooth keyboard? NOT! Using my thumbs to type... NO thanks, I use my Nexus One.
Apple made the iPod Touch bigger... Nothing new yet it's big enough 9.7" touch screen, perfect for a netbook replacement. You can type on it with 10 fingers (which takes sometime to get use to).
This thing with 5" screen is a piece of useless shit. Yeah carry that big phone and put it on your face to answer the phone. You can get some attention from other nerds. Put in your pocket so people can see that you DO have a phone... and it's BIG. /facepalm
@GreenOrc Well, it may not be for you then. Doesn't mean it's shit for everyone else in the world. Besides, this really isn't be marketed as a phone. It's a mobile internet device with phone capabilities. I spend 90 percent of my smart phone time on the web, responding to emails, texting, and browsing Flash sites that I manage. Right now I'm doing all that with my AT&T Tilt, but I lament the small screen size, and honestly 3.7 inches (the new smartphone standard) is too small for my eyes. I find myself zooming in and pinching and zooming just to get around a basic site way too much on iphone sized screens. I don't want to carry around a 10 inch screen, or a netbook, so this is perfect.... for me. It accomplishes everything I'm looking for.
- truly portable
- Big enough screen to be useful
- Snapdragon
- Flash support (in the final version)
- 720P support with HDMI on the Dock
- front facing cam for when video chat apps break out this year on 3G
Like I said. Perfect.
@unclepain Then it's good for you. For college studen like me not.
@Drybones5
Dude...I'M GETTIN' A DELL!
Seriously, I'm in love with this thing. If it doesn't come with it outright, then I can't wait until the hackers patch in support for pushing the main UI out via HDMI (as opposed to just video playback). This thing will replace my phone, netbook, and iPod, all in one device...
@Drybones5 how about an archos 5? It's out now and does everything this does minus a phone call...
@GreenOrc You're right. I don't think any reasonable person would assume that using a keyboardless device for taking notes in class is very efficient. Even with a screen the size of the iPad, I think that would be a real chore. How would you hold that in class? Hold it with one hand and single finger type? Put it in your lap with your knees elevated? Lay that rounded back iPad on your desk and attempt to type with 2 hands as it wobbles all over the place? Stick to the netbook/laptop and I'm sure you'll be happy.
I understood: Dell, HDMI, USB, Dock, Mini...
@Dking7
+ GPS

@Ducman69

Dell said this dock comes standard with the phone. It comes with it when you buy it

Who would of thought I would be saying I can't wait to see WM7 and eager to see what Dell wants for their phone/MDI...
Hey guys, do you want me to translate something from the video? I'm from Greece...
@Bobot : έχουμε google, δεν σας χρειάζεται! :)
@Bobot
Yes, please.
@Bobot What's on the guy's shirt?
@One Love
:D you mean..."έχουμε τo google, δε μας χρειάζεσαι..."
οκ... :P
@Fanfoot
Do you mean "what is written on the panels?"
If this thing plays divx, xvid and mkv on release, I will switch to the first carrier that has it and will happily pay the ETF!
Everyone is forgetting that this is DELL we're talking about. DELL.
They did so well with the Ditty.
1080 or 720?
Either way, DO WANT.
What happened to Engadget's promised full review?
@PhineasJW Richard, who I here is also a good Lai, already did an excellent write up here: http://www.engadget.com/2010/02/19/dell-mini-5-prototype-impressions/
Consensus seems to be that it is pretty badical for a prototype, but as always pricing will make or break it.
@Ducman69: I missed that. Thanks.
@touchmygadget
Stupidity is a universal attribute... ;)

@roseyswine
Balki Bartokomous was never the same after he was deported.
I guess I'll take the obvious joke:
I don't get it.. it's all Greek to me!
(Side note: in Greece, when they don't understand something, do they say "it's all English to me"?)
@CaptSaltyJack Nope, we say it's Chinese ;)
@sths
yeah, because everyone except for americans are bilangual (basically everyone speaks english, fyi)
