Sharkoon's USB 3.0 SATA HDD dock doubles up, now handles two drives
We tell ya, these HDD docks... they sure know how to keep pace with the latest and greatest of technological innovations. Shortly after Sharkoon busted out a USB 3.0-enabled version, along comes this fellow: a dual-drive version of the same device. Packing a pair of SuperSpeed USB sockets and room for two 2.5- or 3.5-inch hard drives (or a combination, if you prefer), this device makes it dead simple to clone drives and ready a new one to supplant your existing platter. It's available now for €59.90 ($81), but if you wait a fortnight or so, we're almost certain the next iteration will be out to take its place.

Thank god, now I can return those two 3.5" enclosures and buy this for $30 less.

Upon further inspection, only that site currently has this product available, and it's in German. With any luck, this will find its way onto the Newegg or eBay.
Very nice very nice! I LIKE ( BORAT ) ;)))
Internal hot swappable enclosure is cheaper and less clutter.
@KGB
and less portable.
a thermaltake one with eSATA is still preferable,
Only two? Pssshhah
one, two...
there's potential for this to go all the way to 11.
I'll wait for the iteration that brings both eSATA and USB 3.0.
Why do they limit these products to two drives? I am sure i am not the only one that would like to see some with 4-5 bays.
@(Unverified) Once you get up to 4-5, you could just get a tower w/ hot swappable drive bays. All the dock style ones I've found over 3 drives seem to just be high speed HDD dupers (also cool, but different useage). Would be cool though to have a ~10 drive tower that could either be used as JBOD or high speed duping (or unRAID)....
Actually.... I bet that would be easily doable in a lime-technology type setup - one USB boot drive for JBOD, one for high speed duping, one for unRAID - just gotta make sure that your drives are labeled properly so you don't blow up your RAID. I love coffee.
I'm glad we are finally seeing more USB 3.0 stuff coming out. I'm holding off on buying a new printer, scanner, flash drive and HD docking station. I'd get this one if it also had esata.
@boe
Why do you need USB 3.0 for your printer or scanner? USB 2.0 is plenty fast for those. Besides networked printers/scanners are a better way to go unless you really only have one computer. Not likely, if you are reading engadget.
@boe OK, the HP large format printers are old anyways so I might as well wait for a new version which includes USB 3.0. Same with the fujitsu scanners I'm looking at. I plan on buying a new TV soon and even though I don't intend to ever watch 3d movies at home I'm waiting for the new models that have 3D because I might as well wait since I can get by for now. I only print from one of my systems, I've never ever needed to print from any other workstation, likewise for scanning - plus network fujitsu scanners with the same features are much more expensive.
You may be right about speed but I'd have to research that to know as it seems printers with large documents transfer a large amount of data with PS printing.
@boe even for huge PS files, the bottleneck is most likely going to be your Printer's proc/RAM or the print head itself - not the USB or LAN (eg you may be able to hit 180mph in a Ferrari, but because of all the stoplights, you'll arrive at the same time as the guy that was doing 30mph)
@glennS that last point is so true :)
...so are the other ones.
@THJ
i dont drive a ferrari or anything close, but it is possible to beat a light if go fast enough...just sayin
sharkoon?
shark + raccoon
Well it seems like its been at least a fortnight since the last time I say said term in a Darren post, nope wait it was 3 days ago.
On a related note, seems a bit pricey for a dual drive enclosure sans controller card. Most people aren't going to have a brand spanking new Gigabyte USB 3.0 certified board or any other USB 3.0 controller for that matter to go along with it for a while.
With USB3.0 still starting out, it'd be better off having an eSATA connector as well.. Holding off for that one
Now if only it had extra USB ports and a memory card reader!
