Moblic E7 stuffs WiMAX, QWERTY, a gamepad, and all our dreams and wishes into a MID
"Remember the story about the boy who suddenly got everything he ever wanted?" asks the high-pitched man in a funny suit. Gene Wilder was probably referring to the Moblic E7. This 4-inch WVGA MID sports an unnamed 600MHz processor, 8GB of built-in storage, WiMAX, microSD expansion, but most impressively slides open to reveal a QWERTY keyboard and delicious SNES-style gaming controls. There's not much more info to go on, like OS, production plans, or price, but sign us up for a dozen.

I just want to say I'm posting this from the updated Engadget iPhone app that was just released & it is AWESOME!
@Eminemdrdre00 cool story bro
kool
Looks likesomething that would lend itself great to a microsd card full of ROMS :)
@forg0tmypen: Your avatar looks like something that lends itself to a great...um...well, you know.
@aubreyq I think what is trying to be said here is great fun!
@forg0tmypen
At least mine's just a lamp...LOL! No seriously, this here device looks like someone did their homework finally. The processor might be a bit lame though - no?
@Chaosdivine OMG it IS a lamp! I thought it was something COMPLETELY different if I hadn't read your comment lol
@Chaosdivine
It is just a lamp, the joke image was photoshoped. The before and after photoshopping picture is out there I've seen it.
@Broderbund I love lamp
Can it play crysis???
@choufleur47
Do you really love the lamp, Brick?
FINALLY!
If this thing has a capacitive screen and runs Android I may finally have found the phone to make me ditch my iPhone.
Seriously. I love my iPhone, but gaming is lackluster due to lack of any physical keys, and a QWERTY is just the icing on the cake! Given that Android does most everything the iPhone does, I have little reason to stick to Apple's closed platform.
@illuminerdi Every android phone is capacitive. Resistive is were you use a stylus
@brendanmurphy HTC Tattoo, and I think one of those low end European T-Mobile Pulses and the LG Eve are all resistive touch Android devices.
@brendanmurphy
Nope, Android phones are a mix of whatever the manufacturer wants up to 7". The HTC Tattoo employs a resistive touch.
Capacitive is not a requirement, its just what is mostly used on phones these days.
@illuminerdi
Seconded.
@illuminerdi
But, this isn't a phone. It's a MID, Mobile Internet Device.
@krische yeah I realized that after the fact. Too bad - add a phone radio to this thing and it's a must buy. Still looks like a great MID - definitely better than most of the rest out there - the perfect amount of controls for a MID in a really nice form factor that other MIDs are struggling to get right.
@krische
MID = Multimedia Internet Device
I hope it runs Maemo and has a beastly processor and battery.
@gandhisfist Lets go through the list shall we?
[ ] Maemo: Sorry i don't see a nokia sign anywhere up there, very likely android.
[ / ] Beastly processor: 600MHz if i had to guess probably the same one within the droid, so almost( i would prefer a Snapdragon or a Tegra).
[X] Good battery life: MIDs do usually get good battery life so i would say yes.
@The Geek Tegra would have made sense since this is clearly made for gaming. Not sure why a device made for gaming has a weaker processor.
@Edobe
I'm guessing for battery life.....
Where Has This Been All My Life I Will Ditch My Phone PSP And MP4 For This Bad Boy
Awesome. Nuff said?
@VanityPhairs: Nope. You need to say more ;-)
Liking the SNES-style gaming controls. Not liking the 600MHz processor. I want duel core 1GHz snap dragon, and I want it now.
@BluescreenOD
yeah.. i really want/"need" a new phone, but god i hate not knowing when's the right time to take the plunge and sign myself into another 2yr contract, because I seriously feel that something SO much better is right around the corner.
@crawdad689 Just take the plunge because there's always something just round the corner that's better / faster. We can never win this game of having the best.
There goes the psp go and ipod touch, out the window...
now if only we could shove CDMA in there
Gaaa... errr... I feel funny... Is this love?
.
@octodd
i'm upranking you because you're so insightful.
@octodd
my eyes have been praised by such a epic comment +1
@octodd
42? Screw 42, this is the answer right here.
Looks quite nice, although I'll reserve full judgement until I see this actually running.
my #1 question that makes the Dingoo, the Pandora, and the GP2X series handhelds so special is whether this handheld has shoulder buttons. There are hundreds of Chinese MP4 players that have emulator and gaming function with a decent d-pad and the classic a, b, x, and y buttons but NO shoulder buttons. That makes playing all of your backup SNES, GBA, Genesis, possible N64, possible PS1 games, etc. extremely difficult or impossible to play.
Unfortunately there are no views of the area that would house the shoulder buttons (i have NO idea what that part of the product is called) and the closest look of that area shows no sign of shoulder buttons. If this has no L or R button then it's a deal breaker for me.
@MysticLeviathan
The NDS is the best portable SNES emulator there is.
Perfect controls.
Hey there gorgeous. I can't wait to get to know you better.

This is what the n-gage should have been.
If only my Nexus One had one of these!
Someone finally got it right! , Why not make it a phone with the same design?
@Hydra
Make it phone with capacitive screen, good browser and graphic acc chip
I know it's not gonna happen.. But WebOS on this would make me happy.
Whoah.
Nice
@pachi72
3) The word "have" ?
Anyone notice the keyboard is practically unusable unless you have long thumbs ?!
Are you that guy from the Burger King commercials with the tiny hands?
