Rogers getting Android 2.1-equipped Acer Liquid e this spring
Acer may make plenty of cellphones, but they've so far been a pretty rare sight on North American carriers. That's now set to change this Spring, however, when Rogers will reportedly be the first carrier in North America to offer Acer's new Liquid e phone -- and, incidentally, the first carrier in Canada to offer an Android 2.1 phone (not counting the upgradable Milestone, that is). In case you missed its debut at MWC, the Liquid e packs a 3.5-inch touchscreen, along with a slightly underclocked 768MHz Snapdragon processor, a 5-megapixel camera, 7.2Mbps 3G and Wi-Fi and, of course, a basic implementation of Android 2.1. Still no indication of a price or exact release date, but Rogers is promising to say more as that approaches.

Interesting.. I hope they have more colors.. :P
@snkaniff: It's horrible. Look at how much space is being taken up both above and below the screen. And, it's way too thick. Pass.
@Butler
Hmmmm.. and it still uses the underclocked snapdragon...
@snkaniff
Where do you need 1Ghz, when it does its job well already?
Overclock it yourself.
Great value for the price, 150€/200$ cheaper than N1.
@Paullll
I want 1GHz for peace of mind.. :P not for anything else.. :D
@snkaniff The Liquid has a WVGA touchscreen, HSPA connectivity and a 5-megapixel camera with autofocus, geo-tagging, ISO and a self-timer. Added to that it still uses the under-clocked snapdragon procs, I believe that's pretty darn interesting! Updates: http://bit.ly/acer-undercloked-view
@snkaniff No... what you want is frequency scaling. When actually needed, 1GHz. When in standby, underclock it.
I don't want to carry around a hot plate with 20 minutes of battery life.
@ToniCipriani
Yea.. That's right... but does any phone in the market do that right now?
@snkaniff Technically the Pre does, but it's not official, it's via homebrew.
But that means the hardware supports it, so it can be done.
Imagine three buttons on the bottom and that it's all black. Doesn't that look similar to some of the units that MS was using at MWC? Not the one on the banners but I could have sworn some of the handhelds they were walking around with looked exactly like this.
can't wait till rogers gets this. will be my next phone if all reviews are good :)
Acer puts out shoddy hardware... I wonder if these phones are going to be any different.
Its nice that Rogers is getting more Android. Although im already looking at Xperia X10 (Whenever it launches!!)
Impressive features but it's still a boring phone.
Ugly phone. Way too thick and the design is horrible as well...
Could have made it shorter.
iPhones always going to be superior.
Why does Acer even bother trying?
Gives us a good laugh..
@thrash1256 u just wanna get down ranked dont ya?
@thrash1256
Down ranked into oblivion in 5... 4... 3... 2... 1...
what's the point of underclocking the processor?
This way next year when they release the same phone but with a non underclocked processor it'll be a new feature?
@look a cow
battery life.
@look a cow See the phone's specifications, previously reported at http://www.engadget.com/2010/02/15/acer-liquid-e-rolls-with-with-android-2-1-underclocked-768mhz-s/ The phone only has a 1350mAh battery, and lower talk (5 hours) times than both the Motorola Droid (6 hours) and the Nexus One (7 hours). The underclocking was probably done to save battery life.
@look a cow The Snapdragon in the Acer Liquid is rated for 768Mhz. It is NOT underclocked. There are currently two versions of the Scorpion core - one rated for 998MHz and one rated for 768MHz. A ~1.3GHz version is slated for release later this year.
@coolbho3000
Thanks for the info I stand corrected.
Why underclock a Snapdragon!? Doesn't that defeat the point?
@Caprice Dates
Battery life extends immensely
after reading UNDERCLOCKED, ill stick with my Magic and wait for something better, come on Rogers when will you stop sucking..still waiting for better plans and no more 3YR contracts
@jc35 I'm still waiting to get out of my contract. I'm never getting into contract again with Rogers. I might go to Bell now that they moved their network once my contract is done, in 2 years :(
Looks awesome to me! Please Sprint get this on your network so i am not forced to go to VZW.
im really disappointed in rogers phone selection. ever since telus and bell got gsm they have soared pass rogers in their selection of phones and overall quality. rogers is getting the xperia x10, and thats a step in the right direction, but im due for an upgrade soon and rogers still doesnt have anything that i actually want.
@Tristan88888888 - Amen to that! Waiting for something with Android 2.1 & HTC sense UI... Otherwise you can always resort to the next gen iphone this Summer.
@zramdani
yeah but ive been avoiding the iphone for too long now. i mean, my mom got one. thats not a phone i want. also, with bell and telus having the iphone now, rogers cannot even use that too there advantage. i too am looking for a killer sense ui phone.
ALL GOOD! I just hope it can be bought unlocked and shipped to the U.S. Can anybody working for Rogers hook a brother up?!!!
@jacka1 im hoping windmobile gets a better selection of phones in the next few years, give rogers and bell a run for their money
@jc35
Wind needs a better network map as well.
@SmokemeaKipper ya thats true, any idea when it will be more then just a few cities?
sorry jacka1, my comment wasnt meant to reply to you lol
my bad
AT&T 3g bitches!!!!!!
@Capper
I just hope that ATT doesn't force users to switch to another data like they did with Nexus One users.
HUH! Take that shitty Americans! We get something before you!
Acer phone in Canada?? Unbelievable. I'm pretty sure the Americans will have the last laugh...somehow....it just always works out that way.
I hope AT&T Gets this by the summer, though I love my iPhone, it's becoming a pain in the but to have to restart it over and over.
Already got this phone, love it, wish it had flash though. Got mines running @ 921Mhz, probably could do 1ghz, though.
