The Droid mopped up the competition! Seriously, the turn by turn navigation on the Droid is astonishing and free!
wow seriously? Probably the only thing I can agree with here is the Lenovo x200 and MAYBE the Droid... the others all seem very...eh.
wow DROID did it again
DROOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOID
since when is usb a "storage device or tech" ?
also seems a bit weird how an empty case wins the title of best desktop
@mrqs Since 1.0 came out.
I'm glad to see the Panasonic GF1 in those lists. Personally for me it was the hardware engineering feat of the year. Panasonic engineers really did some amazing problem solving with this camera, stuffing everything in the small body, that unbelievable articulating flash, managing a superfast focus and employing such an amazing lens. I've owned it since December and if there was love for a machine this would be it for me.
I also second the editors laptop of the year choice. I've recommended the UL30, UL80 to five of my friends and they are all happy owners now.
What the hell is so great about the droid???
Seriously?
I guess the marketing worked.
@vqro
It's a stylish, solid device running a very mod-able operating system.
It also makes a pretty good phone, too. Better than a lot of other smartphones on the market today. It's not popular just because it's a thoroughbred duct taped to a scud missile.
@vqro yea I don't get the whats good about the Droid either. I am an iPhone user, and I went to the Verizon Store and the phone sucks! It feels so cheap and flimsy. The only thing they have going for them is the Android OS, besides that the device itself is crap.
@deepen03
Droid, flimsy??? wtf are you talking about... metal construction and gorilla glass, plus the non springloaded slider will be more durable
The iPad may have been the most anticipated gadget, but it is also the biggest let down too.
There have been rumors of an Apple tablet for years now. Google "Apple tablet" and you find good looking devices (albeit photoshoped) that are fully functional and useful. Then the time finally came and all we have is a big, ugly, over-powered iPod.
@DeekuLime haha.. "Let me try this new tablet thingy.. UGH! It's TOO POWERFUL!" *toss in the trash*
Apple whores...
Who won the "Best White iPhone 3G S" award?
droid... zzzzz... zzzzz.. zzzzz. sorry.. It's just not that good fella's
Q: If kane and abel signup for a competition along with four other girls, and kane won the best person award in the competition. Who won the best award in the male category???
A: abel. Because he has a apple logo in his "back".

ASUS UL 30A FTW!!!!
I have ul30a-x5 off amazon and its incredible! Great to see it win the laptop of the year! (even if its only on engadget)
when you click on most useless machine ever it takes you to the engadget home page
why on earth is the chocolate even on that list? Its such a terrible phone..
man, i wanted the HD2 for best smartphone of the year. I hate windows mobile, but first smartphone with snapdragon
How is the palm pre NOT ON HERE?!
Thanks for doing terrific job of keeping us upt to date.
The fact that the Droid won ANYTHING just proves how susceptible fanboys are to marketing.
Well the lenovo X200t is not a good buy. Sorry, but it's truly not. Anyway... The rest are good picks
