Nintendo to release 100 Classic Book Collection for DS on June 14
The Nintendo DS's dual-screen design has always invited book comparisons, and the new DSi XL even more so with those two 4.2-inch displays, so now's as good a time as any for Nintendo to announce that its 100 Classic Book Collection will be coming to American shores on June 14 for $20. Joystiq says they're expecting the book list to be the same as the Euro pack, so expect some choice public domain works here -- we doubt this has got any of the big e-book players shaking in their shoes, but just wait until Miyamoto releases the $129 Wii Eye Motion Detector with packed-in Mario's Read Speed mini-game. Then it's gonna get crazy.

Better late than never I suppose.
@The Cor
I agree, but I still don't think anyone will buy this.
The real question though, is what is the "Wii Eye Motion Detector" that the blog says... Is it just a joke? I don't usually follow the Nintendo posts, but I don't see anything.
@Neotyguy40
It's a joke. But the Funny thing is that sometimes with all these crazy stuff companies are presenting to us , you can never be 100% sure for anything.
Yet another tech company discovers this new and exciting media called "books".
They're gonna revolutionise the net, I tells ya.
@Gregorian
Shit just got intense!
The DSi has a downloadable content platform and an SD card slot. That would be the obvious choice in getting media content like books to the device, maybe in time.
@fischju its called I4R lol works like a charm
France is also getting a public-domain DSi e-books cart (in French, naturally) in March.
I hope that is just a really bad mock up. I'd be on the verge of sleep before I finished the dirt page!
@think before you react
That's not the DS.....
@think before you react
That probably the real thing, dont forget the DS (all versions) Screens is 4.2 inch screen with 256 x 192 pixel resolution so thats about the most text you would see on screen
@OCEAN CLAK
I ment all DS versions have 256 x 192 screen resolution, and DS XL has 4.2 in screen with 256 x 192 screen resolution
This is what they need to do:
iPhone Super Nintendo and Gameboy app.
They'd make tons with "in app purchases" of old gameboy/snes games.
I would buy Pokemon Yellow and Mario All Stars in a heartbeat.
Seriously, embrace gadgets of all manufacturers and get this done Nintendo! I'd pay .99-$30 for this set up!
@ethanwc
Or have a virtual Console on the DSi which has also has a store, plus have u tried playing gb games on the iphone? I used a gameboy emulator on a jailbroken one, and it drained the battery, and was hard to play with the controls being on the screen.
@Murkurie I was wondering about that. I know the controls on the screen is something you have to just get used to, but I didn't know the battery life would be awful. That's why I want a legit version.
@Murkurie
try it on the pre, it's almost a flawless experience only problem is you might have to turn the sound off for some gba games which will probably be fixed in the future and besides having touchscreen buttons you can amp the pre's keyboard to whatever control you'd like :-).
If this does well we might even see a DSiware E-Book reader with
epub support.
@zero1221
Im part of the lameass crowd that thinks the dsi xl is good idea and would love to see an ebook application on it.
READING RULEZ
Good if you can cope with reading of a 4.2 inch screen with 256 x 192 pixel!
@OCEAN CLAK
exactly. it's gonna be like 1 sentence per page.
@OCEAN CLAK DS Libris is a good piece of homebrew for book reading, the text can be a little sharp on a unit but it's comfortable enough. Actual pixel screenshot: http://sourceforge.net/dbimage.php?id=223283
That said, if the screenshot in the article is from the program on the cart, I'd hope for plenty of configuration options because that's terrible.
Ya know a good paperback of a classic only goes for about 99 cents at a used book store.
Sometimes you really don't have to make things more complex to be convenient.
@LAY
Haha, plus I like having a physical copy of the book. Much like I prefer physical CD's, and vinyl to mp3..
I've been reading books on my DS Lite every night for the past three years. Thanks R4DS + txt files.
Paying for public domain books. . .on my DS. . .something just doesn't feel right here.
...It wouldn't be the first one. I have something like this on a flash card for DS.
