Nokia serves North American X6 up for pre-order: $455 unlocked
Nokia's downright seductive X6 just started shipping to those across the pond, and shortly after the company announced a Comes Without Music edition, along comes this: a NAM version for those who call North America home, sweet home. The pre-order page (which is live this very moment, by the way) makes no mention of a Comes With Music requirement, giving you complete freedom to shove whatever you darn well please onto what's left of that 16GB after the OS install and a hidden 'thank you' note from Olli-Pekka Kallasvuo. So, is that $455 peeking out of your Fifth Pocket really that important to you?

@MikeZ
Show me another phone that is:
Unlocked/Contract Free/Unbranded
5MP AF Cam
16GB Storage
Able to multitask/smart phone
GPS (with FREE navigation)
3.5MM Jack
Wifi
3.2" Screen
...all for ~ $450
I'll wait.
However, the lack of RAM on this device with the early FW was cause for concern (euro variant).
@newtype As a N900 owner I couldn't care less.
I prefer a larger screen with an OS that actually manages to harness the full potential of the hardware and more storage than your basic USB memory stick.
@MikeZ Awesome icon ya got there. I just checked the X6 out on youtube and it is just terrible. poor nokia.
@MikeZ I'm also an N900 owner but mine cost well over $450. I'd say the price difference is worth paying (I
@Ravnos Same here. That difference in pricing is what separates a Porsche (N900) from a Ford Pinto (Symbian).
Nice price, now if it comes the Comes with Music bit, then its a bargain.
No thanks. after getting screwed with the N97 ($600). I said goodbye to nokia long time ago and never look back and I wont less they give me $600 back and take their awful brick back. it occupies too much drawer space.
seriously guys, if you are still using nokia I recommend using another platform for a month and I bet you will say goodbye to nokia too.
@hs2716
...I truly want to, but I'm not paying more for data so I can use a BB, iPhone, or Android.
@hs2716: The N97 was a disgrace, and just yesterday a Nokia executive admitted to it. Those $600 must have hurt, man!
@aubreyq shouldn't they give us our money back. I bought into nokia media machine and believed them. I spend $600 of my hard earned money on a device I don't use. I am too used to nokia promises...firmware updates and all that BS. Symbian^3 I dont buy into that. not right now at least
It's got 850/1900/2100 3G. Does it mean it works with both AT&T and T-Mobile 3G?
@WC066
This phone uses AT&T 3g in the US.
This phone is narrower than my remote.
Add $70 and get a Nexus One which WAY better.
@Qbancelli
"This phone is narrower than my remote."
Yes, and that's a good thing, isn't it? One handed operation, pocketability etc.
16gb of storage and no micro sd expansion. No thanks.In 2010 16gb is not enough space for a media device.
Someone please tell me what exactly is it about this phone that is worth caring about?
Don't go anywhere near this thing. It has worse low RAM issues (128 mb) than the N97. Also the build quality (think Fisher Price) is garbage.

That's absolutely bull***t!! Just read AAS-review and educate yourself! Fool!
Amazon has it for $401.99
don't forget that comes with free maps and navigation in the world

@Cherryboom
Sorry, this was meant for the "unverfied" above you...
this will work with who? t-mobile 3g ot att 3g?
@topcityjose Nokia's past phones have worked with ATT's 3g. T-Mobile's 3g is on a totally different frequency than much of Europe, to which most manufacturers cater...
@maboroshiinoginzuishou I would respectfully disagree. Nokia is probably the only manufacturer that caters to Europe more than any other. The population of western Europe is close to 400 millions, while it is close to 300 millions in the US. that is the fact. My assmption is that people in the US spend more on cellphones than they do in europe and the rest of the world and they do it more often.
In comparison, the myTouch 3G is $399, Samsung Behold 2 is $309, and Moto Cliq is $399 (all straight from T-Mo). If Nokia wants ppl to buy this, they have to be more aggressive. Let's face it, no matter what you think about S60, it doesn't attract any interest in the US. Aggressive pricing is one way to gain interest, and imo $455 is not aggressive enough, considering the hardware is not "fresh" anymore. Price it at $300, and you may attract some attention. I guess Nokia is lucky enough that HTC/Motorola are not releasing all of their phones in the US.
needs to drop by $255 dollars
I love underdogs, and the N95 was such an innovator and game changer (because it set a VERY high bar for what a phone could do), but Nokia totally dropped the ball.
Sad.
@maboroshiinoginzuishou couldn't agree more. I too had the N95 and back then i knew it was better than anything out there.
Anyone know if they have finally put in some threaded text messaging in this device, its seriously crazy that s60 does not support it natively.
@Tman3k
Nope. The only solution is some half-assed third party application that emulates a threaded SMS look. You can't set it as native though.
Nice. Reasonably price for an unlocked smartphone. But, I too will wait for Symbian^3.
3.2" 640x360 screen, 5.0MP w/ 4x zoom & dual led flash, 16gb internal storage, and Wi-Fi? All in a 13.8mm thick, 122g body? Doesn't sound half bad. The CPU/RAM is a bit disappointing though. Price seems about right at $450, but if they want to really hit the US market they gotta go lower. You can get an unlocked HTC Hero off Newegg for less then that these days. Still, much better then most of the overpriced shit Nokia puts out. Props for that.
I'm not slagging on Nokia in general because I used to own a Nokia phone, but trust me folks, this particular phone (and the original N97, which Nokia STILL has the temerity to sell) is a POS.
I was just in Europe for a few weeks, and a relative also had an X6, which he was returning back to the store. We both agreed it was a plasticky, unstable, laggy turd that often crashed and gave 'low memory please close open programs' warnings every few minutes. Stay far away from this thing.
