The titanium iPhone is real, really real (video)
You came, you saw, some of you were not convinced. So what's a gadget blog to do when picture evidence isn't enough? Why, get those pictures moving, of course, right up to 30 frames a second. The stunning titanium iPhone 3GS from this morning is back, proving not only its existence in the corporeal realm, but also its much-disputed ability to place a call -- something that even the default plastic-backed units sometimes struggle with. Look, we're not in Austria and therefore can't lick it and tell you if it really tastes of titanium, but on the evidence we have the thing looks legit. Judge for yourself after the break.

@cdf74dc9: Call quality is more a factor of AT&T's crappy network. As for Flash, frankly i consider it a benefit not to have to deal with that memory hogging, crash pone POS. If Apple's avoidance of Flash can help push websites to use alternatives like HTML5, so much the better.
@krizoitz
Flash will be gorgeous and flawless with hardware acceleration (Tegra 1 or 2). The problem is, none of the Snapdragon phones out there can accelerate flash.
@krizoitz
Apple making excuse about flash and brainwash fanboi so that they think it's insignificant. Read em and weep.
"After all the talk of Flash Player 10.1 and what it does to gadgets' battery lives, the folks at FlashMobileBlog decided to take the old-fashioned approach to finding out how the Google Nexus is affected: Playing a lot of videos.
They found that "video can be played for well over 3 hours over Wi-Fi from YouTube in H.264 (Baseline 1.2)." One's gotta wonder whether this is acceptable battery consumption or not, but the big idea is that we can extend that time by playing with configurations (backlight, Wi-Fi vs 3G, etc) and encouraging the availability of optimized content."
Gizmodo
Steve said alot of things but in the end it's all marketing talk.
@cdf74dc9 You have to remember that the Nexus One doesn't have a piece of shit battery in it. If it had the lilliputian piece of crap that the iPhone 3GS, I'm sure it would do much worse than 3 hours of Flash video.
Is that an SD card slot I see?
@Yoda
30 pin dock-port thing
@Yoda I hope this isn't a serious statement
@Yoda
No
@mattscinto Yea, you should know by now that you can extend your memory, just buy a 2nd iPhone.
@Yoda I like everything about it except I think the Apple logo on the back is too large and looks bette the original size.
OMG HAS NO ONE EVER HEARD OF AFTER EFFECTS?
This is so easy to fake i cant even tell you. seriously the gullibility here makes my hair stand on end.
@dave england
It'd be easier to make the freaking case than fake this. It's a nice piece of art or at least tech, but faking that is pretty damn sad.
@Yoda This is madness!
@Yoda
pwndmodo.
@n0ne
one of the best comments i have ever read, still chuckling
@Drago THIS. IS. PROPRIETARY CONNECTORS!
@werty1432k AGREED!! This just looks like someone is trying to show off. I'm not that kind of iPhone guy haha..
@n0ne and you can use the SD card memory like Windows Turbo boost, to add more RAM
@reebokshoes you were so close to perfection but then u decided to throw names around that aren't correct, its ReadyBoost.... sorry buddy
@dave england Then make us one in after effects and I'll believe you.
@n0ne .. And you still cannot use it as USB flash drive
@RyanGorup
Look closer, there are two 30 pin sized areas on this iPhone, one on the top one on the bottom. I don't think there are 2 30pin connecters needed...
@Yoda you're looking at the sim card tray. It's almost the same size as the dock connector.
@Yoda
and you thought 3g coverage on the iphone was bad before... ugh
@dave england L O L
@Yoda
Why does this have so many replies?
WHY!
@Yoda
You should have said it like this "An SD card slot, I see". And, no, that's not an SD card slot.
@corylulu
Maybe it can cook, breakfast, lunch, and dinner.
@Yoda
C-c-c-c-c-c-c-c-combo breaker?
@jellotime91
I know its too big. I wanted to insert a white or black plastic thing like on macbooks but didn't work well. decided to go with the standard sized one for the upcoming version.
@dave england
I say the video is legit. Look at the weird looking white bag hanging from the chair in this dude's bedroom.
If you were going to take the time and energy necessary to fake a video of this caliber, don't you think you wouldn't let the whole blogosphere know that you carry a purse?
gizmodo got pwned
@RyanGorup lol thats what I actually love, I saw his post where he points out why its fake and then this comes out. I went straight to the giz post to see him fix it lol!
@RyanGorup
Why would they call it a fake? When it comes to mods it rare that it is fake. If it was a leak from Apple then it could have been a fake.
I believe that Gizmodo are angry because his browser was at Engadget while he was picturing his phone.
Haha! Touché Engadget!
Man, that guy did a really nice job machining! I do CNC machining all day, and that kind of thing takes skill to do!
-Taylor
@Taylor Yes Taylor
Hmm, the last time I used a CNC machine I just designed the shape in SolidWorks and the machine did all the work for me cutting it out of a solid block.
@Taylor Yes Taylor
Standing by that LCD Display next to that CNC takes a lot of skill doesn't it?
@7egend Hell yeah, my fingers are getting sore from hitting a button all day while getting to sit there for upwards of an hour waiting as the machine does my work for me.
Try actual milling and not CNC'd work and see how long you'd last.
@7egend
Ah, lovely, the standard know-it-all engadget reader ready to put everyone down.
I'm not a CNC *operator*, I'm a CNC *programmer* and a Mechanical Engineer. I design all of the parts, and write the program to make them. Deciding how fast to spin the tool, how deep to cut, and a million other things takes a lot of experience. In order to cut out a fancy titanium iphone case without just ruining your tools and your part, you've got to have lots of skills.
Or i guess I'm making $70k/yr and rising in a recession, at only 25 years old, by just sitting and watching an LCD screen.
Grow up.
-Taylor
@Taylor Yes Taylor An awesome response... how do you get a job like that anyway? I'm not being sarcastic.
@7egend
neither does being an idiot but you seem to excel in that area
@Amnak
I got the job half by dumb luck, and half by knowing what I'm doing. I've been building robots since high school and taking things apart since I was 5, so I'm really good mechanically. I'm not sure how old you are, but if you're interested in something - anything - go out and teach yourself as much as you can about it, and don't wait for school to teach it to you or you'll probably never know it that well.
The dumb luck half was that my step-mom owns the property that the company leases, and they mentioned that they need someone mechanical so I got an interview - networking with people is really important.
Now I work 50 hours a week and sometimes more, and I still never stop teaching myself things. I taught myself how to CNC parts, and that's why we bought a CNC. That saved us a lot of money too. I taught myself computer programming last year and now we ship some reasonably useful software that I wrote.
Drive and dedication get you really far. It also helps to find a small company that needs someone exceptional. Big companies usually have what they need one way or another, but at a small company you can really make a big difference.
Thanks for ranking me up guys, i was kinda irked by people that don't understand the skills required to do my job!
-Taylor
@Taylor Yes Taylor:
My dad is a CNC operator. Thanks to dedicated individuals like you, he has work to do.
I extend his appreciation for your efforts.
@Taylor Yes Taylor, hahaha! The haters seemed to vanish..........
@Taylor Yes Taylor Well said Taylor. In your face wanna-be posers!
@Taylor Yes Taylor so would it at all be possible to purchase a cover from you, I really like the look and blanche between machine and art!
@Taylor Yes Taylor so would it at all be possible to purchase a cover from you, I really like the look and blance between machine and art!
