Call us optimistic, but we pictured February 25th rolling around with us laying on a couch and watching some Olympic ice dancing clips on the JooJoo's 12-inch screen. Ah, but here we are about to cross off the last few days of the month and the only thing we've got in our hands are some tissues and hot cocoa. Promising to ship units to those who pre-ordered in December within 8-10 weeks, Fusion Garage CEO Chandra Rathakrishnan told us just a month ago that it was
on track to ship before the end of February. However, when we called them up to see what the deal was we were told they'd have a shipping update for us by the first week in March. Additionally, when asked if there were delays with production or shipping the first units to customers we got the never fun "no comment." We're going to go ahead and assume there's been some sort of delay -- perhaps JooJoo primary investor CSL has been too busy updating the
BlueBerrry KIRF line with an optical pad to write out the check for the manufacturing costs. Okay, that's unlikely, but we'd love to hear if any of those that pre-ordered have heard differently or anything at all.
Flash 10.1 does not support JooJooing. This must be the issue.
@mattscinto yeah iget what ur saying here but im not really that into this thing. i mean flash can keep on not supporting this kind of crapgadget but its just ok with me! i would like to see flash support for something ither than this joojoo baby talk manx!
@emopoops dude I was clearly joking
@mattscinto it doesnt matter if u were clearly joking im not even excited about this thing. its just abig apple whiner!
"I got the doo, doo in my hands"
im not really into this tablet loking thing i mean why not just buy a newspaper?
@emopoops
If this does everything they say it does, AND it has robust video codec support(divx,xvid,h.264,.mkv extentions), I'll have a hard time not buying this thing.
@reiththestud well anyone who buy a copy of an original is not very well thott of so maybe if ur realy thinking how u type ur really thinking u shoud just appeal! remain away from the "temptation" ok cause it wont do u any good on the social life
@emopoops
I wonder what is the original? Joojoo has been in the public knowledge longet that ipad, if you were claiming that is the original.
@newone i think everyone here knows what the original is. just because it "came out" later than it was made... doesnt mean its not the orignal piece of work that joojoo most likely copied. im not going on the offensive just yet but im really optimistic about apple actually suing these pals.
@emopoops
I just don't understand how you think they copied a product that noone even knew anything about. Or like MarcusMaximus said, the multiple devices that other companies have made before Apple's iPad. What patent would Apple use to sue them? They don't have a patent on the tablet form factor.
@reiththestud tricky tricky tricky. it is not the actual form factor which the patent is on.....
@emopoops
So what's the patent that they would use to sue them?
@emopoops
If apple sues JooJoo, then whats to stop other companies who came up with tablet concepts before the iPad from suing apple?
You're trying way too hard here. Go troll somewhere else
@reiththestud
you guys are replying to probably the worst formulated troll i have seen in a while
@Spatev
I know I shouldn't feed the troll. It's just that it's like feeding baby pandas, they're just so darned cute.
@reiththestud i dont know. some patent apple has laying around. see the difference here is that those other tablets arent even vaquely similar to that darn apple ipad. but the joojoo looks just darn well exactly like the ipad. Im going to let you know right here and now that someone isnt going to get out of this tablet business without sueing someone for something. my bets on apple sueing joojoo. i mean look at the comparason! who would have thot this company or whatever it is joojoo making something very similar in looks etc.. as apples new ipad. did the ipad ever copy any tablet? what? i dont think so. i dont think anyone else does either.
@emopoops
I agree with you that they're similar and there will be lawsuits. I just don't know how you justify that apple will be sueing joojoo when fusion garage had the joojoo announced and in production before Apple ever unveiled the iPad. And, before Apple's announcement, noone had any way of knowing what the iPad looked like. Fusion Garage had literally NO WAY of copying the iPad. It's just not possible.
@emopoops you are either incredibly ignorant or one of the best trolls ever, I can't decide which.
@reiththestud there are ways. how do u think people get informated in the first place? from inside sources. luckily this time noone like us the readers saw it coming until the final products are revealed and its just that obvious!
@emopoops
Saying that Fusion Garage used inside sources to copy the iPad before we even knew Apple was working on it without anything to back it up is a huge stretch. It's an interesting conjecture, but nothing more. And definitely not a basis for a lawsuit. You can suspect it all you want, but the facts on the table right now point towards Apple copying Fusion Garage, not the other way around. "I just know it" isn't a statement that holds up in court.
@reiththestud haha im not the one who would be going to court though. imagine that.
@emopoops
well apples still isnt gona be able to use fusion garage with your "i just know it line" either.
Bring on some facts for your lame accusations to back it up or dont even comment at all.
when apples sues fusion garage and WINS for their 'copying' the iPad form...ill give you $100...untill then stay away from that submit button, please...ur just annoying users and keeping them from reading real opinions
@emopoops: This is the largest amount of fail I have ever seen, congrats buddy!
My JooJoo is in my bank w/interest counting every sec.
No one here has pre ordered it. We're all anxiously awaiting the Engadget review before we waste our mo.. i mean make this kind of investment. :)
@emopoops
This was announced before the iPad. Therefore, your argument does not compute.
Next time you troll, try harder...
@SolidSnake better bet your willy you know what your talking about there. just because something is so called anouced before something deso not make that statement so. im pretty sure apple had the idea concept and desing first nad joojoo had nothing to do with it. until they copied apple.
@emopoops it's a bit hard to copy a company that hasn't told anyone it has a product in the works...
@emopoops
Wife: "Honey come to bed"
Husband: "I can't, somebody on the internet is wrong"
Design and concept is one thing. But with all of Apple's secrecy, Joojoo had NOTHING to copy, they simply couldn't. Any comparison with Apple's iPad is purely coincidental. Joojoo had a design, prototype, and had announced the product months before Apple's iPad was unveiled. They simply couldn't have copied Apple.
@emopoops Yes, this did indeed copy the iPad. But then the iPad was actually a copy of a new tablet that will be announced by Google in two months(they had started working on it long before Apple started working on the iPad). And that tablet is a copy of one by Microsoft that will be announced in July. Or... maybe we should stop assuming people are copying concepts because you happen to be a fanboy of the company they're supposedly copying?
@MarcusMaximus i dont like apple that much and i am very well female btw. i think that joo joo is one of the lesser known companies thereofre it has to be copying apple because that was apples big thing lately the ipad and then this like wtf? anyone who doesnt think this joojoo is a copy of apples original desing sceme and pad are in for a big surprize! im coherent enough that joojoo will admit they copied it when apples sues them for patent infridgement just wait. youlk hear more about joojoo baby manx!
@emopoops How cute. I remember when I had my first beer.
@emopoops You should probably do a bit more research about the Joojoo(that's the name of the device, not the company by the way) before saying that. If you want to know where to start: begin by searching for the Crunchpad, which is what it was originally going to be called. It's been announced for a long time and just because Apple came along and announced something somewhat similar late last month doesn't mean they copied it. There were several other tablets announced before the iPad as well, so you might check on the Notion Ink Adam, HP Slate, and some of the others that were shown at CES(several weeks before anyone knew definitively about the iPad).
@SolidSnake
@emopoops Again how could they copy Apple, no one had seen what Apple had until a month ago. What they could copy was blogs and the like which had designs by fans of what they thought the iPad might look like, but thats not the same as copying Apple themselves.
People have been throwing around designs that looked like what Apple released for years. When you are releasing a device that consists only of a screen its a bit hard not to release something that looks like other competitors. Look at how many smart phones look similar to one another.
@emopoops You're funny!! You seriously think a small company is incapable of making an innovative product before a big company?
Your emo does poop.
@emopoops
How do you copy what you haven't seen? This thing had design pics and demo videos out LONG before the iPad was unveiled. Unless you have some inside information you want to share, you're just making yourself look stupid, but your spelling and grammar gave that away.
@Edobe
They didn't copy the iPad per se, but since so many people have been quick to say that the iPad is a just a big iPhone, I think it's also fair to say the JooJoo is just a copy of an iPhone, just bigger.
@Smigit
How come nobody is considering the possibility that Apple copied the JooJoo :-) Its not like Apple has shamelessly copied before.
Anyone who plunked down $500 for one of these without seeing any hands-on reviews and getting only a vaporware-esque "8-10 week" shipping timeframe (which never changed over the course of those 8-10 weeks), must have little love for their money. I'd be surprised if anyone here actually admits to such behavior.
@tivolo i agree i agree! WTG!
@tivolo I still have my bet on them never delivering in the US.
Any updates on the legal goings-on?
@tivolo there were a few videos of YouTube of the final production version in action - I was pretty temped to pre-order after seeing them myself; but yeah, there's no surprise to the delay here.

Our Klingon CEO has started an uprising amongst the Manufacturers in USS Facility. JooJoos have been delayed due to this uprising. Still no signs of internet couch surfing, if we stay the course though we may find out something in the days to come.
Make it so.
I wouldn't buy a JooJoo for their price. I'm waiting for the HP Slate.
@JONNNathannn i doubt that i will buy any sort of tablet but i am also excited to see what the HP Slate has to offer. if they price it right it should sell fairly well. it would be hard for it to be worse than an iPad. i mean it does run a real OS and presumably has at least 1 USB port.
@kojo87
Yes, lets wait for a device that really offers nothing new like the HP Slate. Tablets with a desktop OS have existed for quite some time, and the HP Slate is really just a form factor. Bill Gates pushed for the tablet, and the only difference between the Slate and all of the other tablets that are already on the market is that the slate has a slightly different form factor (no keyboard). You think they would have dug a little deeper on that one, but Steve Balmer wanted to stand up there and act like they were ahead of Apple on this one. I am not saying that the iPad is going to be a runaway success, but a mobile OS that has been designed for a touchscreen with access to thousands of apps (made specifically for a tablet) is pretty appealing. I doubt the JooJoo will ever ship. I expect the company to fold before they actually manufacture these devices. I think they had an interesting idea, but I believe that Googles Chrome OS will be a better fit and offer a more integrated experience if you want a tablet with just a web browser. I will personally purchase an iPad, as I think Apple has created a platform that will succeed as they have the developers to make it happen. Is it missing some things?...yes, but I really believe that there is a future with the iPad. The HP Slate will never take off and I would be surprised if we ever see a JooJoo outside some Indian guy in a Youtube video.
@notfromboston1 i don't understand how porting an OS off of a toy and onto a bigger form factor is going to be useful. i don't understand how having a single proprietary connector will be useful. i do not understand how having your hardware locked into a specific OS is useful. the iPad does not seem useful to me. if i am going to buy a tablet device it is not going to be as limited in functionality as the iPad. the HP Slate will be fully capable of running any full version of Windows you like as well as any variation of Linux including Chrome OS. there will be plenty of devices more useful than the HP Slate or iPad. but i predict the HP Slate will be more useful that an iPad. time may prove me wrong.
but like i said i don't see myself ever owning a tablet. and like you said its not a new idea and has been done before in various ways. touchscreens still seem rather gimmicky to me. i've never seen one used for any real work. if i want an underpowered mobile device to browse the web on i will stick to a netbook.
i merely said i wanted to know more information on the HP Slate. i did not say the HP Slate would be fantastic. i just said it would probably be better than an iPad. im sorry my desire for competition upsets you so much.
@cherryboom you have a strong point. i forgot to consider commercial use. yes many businesses use touchscreens since it is far faster than a mouse for simple data input. i was referring to more to use in personal computing. touchscreens are nice for phones and media devices but generally they don't add much functionality for things like word processing or spreadsheet processing. i see a few people with convertible tablet PCs around my campus. they rarely are using the touchscreen and if they are they are usually just showing their friend how cool it is.
@Atkins
thanks for cutting off my quote before it mentioned Linux and Chrome OS. you initially mentioned Chrome OS on a tablet. and i never understood the "What applications are you going to use on your OS that can't be found in the iTunes store?" argument. well Audacity comes to mind. (just my first reaction) i've heard it many times before. What applications are you going to use from the iTunes store that can't be found on Windows, Linux or OSX? im willing to bet any worthwhile application you downloaded through iTunes for your iPhone or iPod has a free or cheap alternative that can be found for the OS of your choice through some simple Googling.
