Call us optimistic, but we pictured February 25th rolling around with us laying on a couch and watching some Olympic ice dancing clips on the JooJoo's 12-inch screen. Ah, but here we are about to cross off the last few days of the month and the only thing we've got in our hands are some tissues and hot cocoa. Promising to ship units to those who pre-ordered in December within 8-10 weeks, Fusion Garage CEO Chandra Rathakrishnan told us just a month ago that it was
on track to ship before the end of February. However, when we called them up to see what the deal was we were told they'd have a shipping update for us by the first week in March. Additionally, when asked if there were delays with production or shipping the first units to customers we got the never fun "no comment." We're going to go ahead and assume there's been some sort of delay -- perhaps JooJoo primary investor CSL has been too busy updating the
BlueBerrry KIRF line with an optical pad to write out the check for the manufacturing costs. Okay, that's unlikely, but we'd love to hear if any of those that pre-ordered have heard differently or anything at all.
I doubt this thing is ever going to see daylight!
Of course the real reason for the delay is a squadron of Apple ninjas sabotaging the factory over the past month, throwing all kinds of shuriken into the works.
@fischju
It was Steve Jobs' personal ninja strike force! He ordered me to send them out yesterday. I probably shouldn't be telling yo
@fischju actually I heard Micheal Arrington was leading those attacks
@SolidSnake
OH NOES! Steve Jobs must have killed SolidSnake with a multitouch gesture! Say it ain't so!
Methinks you shouldn't have told.
@fischju
"Of course the real reason for the delay is a squadron of Apple ninjas sabotaging the factory over the past month, throwing all kinds of shuriken into the works. "
That actually isn't that far fetched. Just replace ninjas with managers, and shurikens with canceled orders.
If apple was irked enough with this they could pressurice manufacturers to postpone, or cancel the production. Any big contractor would think twice before irking apple inc for a new player in the market. Wouldnt be the first time this happens, even big players on the market aren't immune to this. Just look at what hapened with intel vs amd.
The concept, design, software and execution seem pretty fantastic but considering the very controversial history of this very young company I can't imagine anyone who can't afford to lose $500 would put a pre-order on this thing. The iPad might be missing a camera and Flash support but at least I know if I buy one that Apple won't up and disappear 2 days later.
@luun So true. As much as people bash the iPad, and as much as there are some flaws to it, can you really rely on the competition? Adam, Alex (yes I know its not a tablet competitor), JooJoo. The problem with new companies/brand new product entrances is that YOU, the consumer, have to also play the role of the investor. You have to place a wager that in a year from now, you will still have a product with a market price, tech support, software updates, and a company behind it. With these newer companies, its a tough call.
At least with Apple you know what you're getting yourself into, for better or worse. That goes with the other companies like HP as well. The golden rule of new tech: it never meets ALL the expectations, something(s) falls short. A good investment is one where you know what things have and are going to fall short of all the hype and rumors.
"The concept, design, software and execution seem pretty fantastic"...
Wise choice of adjective.
I've tried to email them numerous times to ask what's going on, but no response (just to be clear I did NOT order one, but they look nice and I'd like to, but not without knowing if they will actually ship).
Vapor.
Did they ever explain how they got away with violating PayPal's TOS?
what gadget announced in January is shipping on time?
@joelaf At least in theory the Notion Ink Adam is still slotted for June. Of course that's still far enough away to give time for delays.
@joelaf It was announced in early December. Pre-orders were taken in January
@HAVOKK
HA!
They should send JooJoo beans as a way to say sorry.
Haha i will be chilling with my iPad while you guys are still waiting for this "far better" tablet! Bezinga!
$500 for 4GB, uhh no thank you.
@SaggyBalls way to pass it up! keep it going!
I'm guessing the staff at JJ Inc. had a meeting about 'pricing' on Jan 27th.
And another product that the "I hate Apple" cronies were pushing turns to vapor.
Man, you guys are on a roll, y'all should be investors- like the opposite of Madoff. Losers (in a stock/business sense, not personal- chill out)
With all these disappearing/disappointing products and adobe's ever-increasing flash delays, you folks are certainly running out of napkins to cry on.
Nilay! Where is my JooCrunch?
"JooJooo… take the money and run."
-Tom Petty
Maaannn... this joojoo thing is gonna be so two-thousand-and-late (sorry for that BEP reference). I'm already saving up for Adam! That thing is the new-shiny thing to grab my attention.
Whats the deal with NYT being the poster child of all tablets for ALL time? Do they think they are the Lycos of the 21st centry?
@iFOREIGNi
The 'Paper of Record' has slightly more significance than Lycos, dude, sorry.
Who cares who copied who, or who announced first. This device is done (as in dead). Move along.
Who came up with the name JooJoo. Seriously, they couldn't pick anything else? Just because of that, it makes me not want to own one lol.
They should change the name to iJoo joo to piss Apple off.
Thats gonna reflect badly on them. You don't promise something you can't deliver. Its as good as bragging. With that kind of replies from them, can you imagine support provided for the devices?
@bigbong
Yeah. Like the 'accidentally' leaked Courier video which turned into a useless HP Slate.
@Wesscoast
Courier != HP Slate.
This product died the day the iPad was announced. No, it was dead when rumors of the iPad were circulating.
I saw a couple demos on YouTube. The operation system is so slow and ugly. I don't think I will spend my $$ on something this slow.
If I want a JooJoo, I would buy an iPad. If I want an iPad, I would buy a netbook.
Fusion Garage ripped off TechCrunch. I'm sure they're ripping off everyone who pre-ordered.
Anyway, the JooJoo sure is nice. TechCrunch designed it, that's why. I'll probably get one but only after I can be reasonably sure that FusionGarage is not another start-up that winds up n runs after ripping customers off. (this happens quite often in asia)
Karma is a bitch Chandra, you should know
I've spend my choochoo train on the N1 :(
I asked for a review example lie 2 month's ago and they sent me an email today. They are going to deliver to journalist in the US first. Later this year they go on a country-by-country basis to deliver to journalists in other countries. Wonder how long it will take before they ship to the Netherlands? Can't wait to get one.
I don't trust this Fusion Garage guy. Very Shady.
I am in love with the Adam from Notion Ink -
That's where I'll throw my money.
This company is clearly fake, and they are all a bunch of scumbags accepting pre-orders. Hope the company owners get hit by a bus.
That HAL iLet thing is looking much better to me than this. Runs Android... I wonder how they compare? Would like to see a side by side, video shoot out :) !
Everyone with a preorder needs to pull the plug on these con-artists. There should at least be a public prototype to investigate running on the release build and specifications. Ping Paypal and get your money back
