Palm's official webOS 1.4 changelog leaked?
You know what's running out? February. That's a little alarming considering that Palm had promised that totally rockin' new cut of webOS, 1.4, before the month was out -- but while we wait for this thing to actually happen, at least we've now got an official (or official-looking) changelog of the build out of the good folks at PreCentral. Besides a host of bug fixes, 1.4 is said to have performance boosts within the phone and calendar apps, a handful of messaging enhancements, new email sorting options, custom alert sounds for reminders (finally!), and -- of course -- the addition of video recording and Flash support on the Pre. Interestingly, it won't have Flash out of the box -- you'll still need to download it from the Catalog, it seems. Head on over to PreCentral for the full log, and read really, really slowly just in case you've got a few more days to wait on this stuff.

thanks for this! i love palm! i loev oficial lookinf change logs! im not on the market to ever buy a pre or pixie cause they are unactractive, but im willing to go head in head with the next palm customer. i like to know the most about the palm through normal posts like this! i would never join precentral! thanks forthis engadget!
@FrankJ im still better when it comes to relatd to the post though! im really looking forward to the next palm device! it will have web os am i right?
VICTORY SCREACH :O
this update can't come fast enough... My Pre is sad...
@ACEACEACE My Pre isn't sad because it's an inanimate object, devoid of emotion. Maybe you should get yours replaced if it's starting to act depressed.
@CRA1G
LOL!
unfortunantly it's to late for palm, as a pre owner say I can't wait for a good Nexus One style android phone to be released through sprint and I'm gone. Comon supersonic. WebOS is awsome and by far the best OS out but the shitty hardware is unacceptable.
@dkotoric1 how is it so? too late for palm to what?
@emopoops .. too late for Palm to be competitive. Every day that passes people are being locked into iPhone/Android contracts. They should have partnered up with HTC from the start. Web OS on HD2 would have been killer.
@taligent
That's a pretty nifty idea. I think Palm should try to contract out their hardware development to HTC. Then they can focus solely on software/webOS. They can still have the tight software & hardware integration that they do now, but just have HTC develop the hardware.
I'm getting worried that Palm is too small and has too small of resources to develop both cutting edge hardware and software. Imagine what they could do if they could focus all of their resources on software.
@krische HTC already has both Microsoft and Google competing for their attention with Android and Windows 7. Doubtful they'd be all that interested. Personally, I thought WebOS and Nokia would've been a match made in heaven, but sadly, Nokia looks set on pushing MeeGo (Maemo/Moblin hybrid).
@taligent i dont know if ur in with me on this one but i really beleive that palm doesnt have to be competitive because they are in a league of there own! Now when i mean this i mean that palm has all the right to be sad about the loss but its there own darn fault they made such ugly phones! now i know im not the only one when i type this that believe the following: the webos is just boss! palm has come up with something original with the webos here and im sure that they will take it further than and apple or htc or alien can!
@taligent
Better yet partner with Samsung or Sony Ericsson.....
@Cin
Palm could do like Google did with HTC for the Nexus One. HTC made the Nexus One, but it doesn't say that anywhere. Google is the one that sells it.
I have been waiting for it to come out for a month now :)
@(Unverified) I have been waiting for 25 days for this
Wow, that iPhone sure looks different (assistant whispers)
Wait, this isn't an iPhone?
But the video editing looks exactly like an iphone? (assistant whispers)
What? Your telling me that's a Palm Pre?
Let's add the ability to only add people you want in your phonebook rather than anyone you've ever emailed, friended on Facebook or have on your buddylist while we're at it.
@JONNNathannn
Could not agree more!
So many acquaintances w/out numbers in my contacts
@JONNNathannn - why does it matter, do you go to contacts and go hmmm, who do I want to call/bother. if you know who you are looking to contact use universal search. Having everyone at your fingertips is to your advantage. The fact that you can email people or lookup phone numbers of people you didnt know you had is what they were going for.
@SteveBoroughs exactly, why browse your contacts list when you can type their name from the home screen and call or text them? I almost never look at my contacts unless I'm making changes.
@SteveBoroughs Why should I have to search for a sibling by last name simply because webOS decided to add tens of people with the same name into my contacts? Why should I have to always type when I want to call someone, since scrolling leads me to browse 100s and 100s of people I'll never call? What's the BENEFIT of making my contact book such a disaster? Just another corner Palm cut.
@JONNNathannn
Just use speed dial then. Problem solved.
@JONNNathannn Universal search baby. I've never once gone into contacts in order to phone/text a friend. It's so much easier to just start typing a name.
I dont understand why people still have a problem with.
@JONNNathannn Give your family members nicknames. Then, you can universal search "mom", "dad", "brother", etc... and they pop up.
Leaked by Palm because of today's unfortunate Palm sales update? Probably.
@Titanium Man Probably, but it's JUST an update with a few minor enhancements!
That's gonna appeal to current owners, not potential ones.
@Titanium Man There have been rumors that 1.4 is getting released today for a week or so.
@Freakin Ijit
Weird. When apple updated the iPhone to record video it was considered a major update, yet when Palm does it it's considered minor?
And Flash 10.1 beta is minor, too? Okay.
Where did Rubinstein go?
I love palm and I am so excited for 1.40 I just hope that they can get themselves out of this rut wtf is verizon doing?
WOW that screenshot is totally copied from an iPhone OS. Bravo Palm.
@vladdybear. Yes, I thought that too. Rip Off of iPhone editing
Looks like the custom alert sound is only for the calendar app. Lame.
It's not called "leaked" when you release it yourself in a vain attempt to hide your bad quarterly results. I think it's more aptly called "misdirection".
@Bender Bending Rodriguez
Actually the rumor that the update would land today started a week ago, and they announced most of the changes in the changelog back at CES... So they must REALLY be thinking ahead if that was their end goal :P
@Cin
Surely they knew what the quarterly results were going to be before today, but you're right, I have doubts that Palm is able to think a week ahead of time. :D hehe
Huh, I love how many iPhone fanboys come out to troll about Palm. Then again, I don't think Apple eeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeever copied from other companies in the past...
You have an opinion, awesome. But if you're here to just troll, the please, the perpetual door from where you can "GTFO" is just over there
@pbp8ntballer Who is Palm's CEO again?
@pika2000
Uh huh, where did he come from? Apple. So when someone from Apple decides to play Apple's game but with a different company, it's apparently worth trolling about
then*
Am I the only one who thought that finger looked like a dick?
Hopefully the Flash 10 beta will be in the Canadian app catalog....
Apple, just get it over with and buy Palm, and implement WebOS' task switching for iPhone OS. You already have Rubinstein in there.
My pre is bored, please make this happen soon palm...and announce a new phone so my faith that you wont go out of business like my past phone company did will be renewed (man helio sucked).
Where is the palm C40?? That's what needs to be shown..
I've been waiting for 1.4 since I got my phone and immediately updated it to 1.3something. Haven't been able to download apps for about two months now. 1.4 had better fix that little bug.
@feelings
Awesome. Just checked my phone for updates, and it says there is something that needs updating. Goes to the My Applications card, and shows nothing. Does nothing.
Fail.
I doubt Palm will be bought out anytime soon. 4G phones coming out soon and I am sure a new webOS phone will be in that mix. No comment to you iFlamers if your iPhone is so good then why are yall always trolling these posts.
