Nexus One coming to Vodafone UK in April, says Telegraph
Without citing its sources, the Telegraph is reporting matter-of-factly that the Nexus One will launch on Vodafone in April for a to-be-determined price, though it's "likely to be priced very similarly to comparable smartphones such as the iPhone." It's no secret that Vodafone's picking up Google's Snapdragon-powered beast -- but we've yet to lock it down to a 30-day window like this, so it's progress. Coincidentally, this is going to collide head-to-head with the European release of the Desire, HTC's remix of the Nexus One with Sense and an optical pad thrown in, so it'll be fascinating to see which of these monsters comes out on top at retail.[Thanks, Charles]

sigh.. when something like that hits Canada? I kinda need it NOW... my old phone broke :-(
I know Telus just got Motorola Milestone.. but I would like to go with either Nexus 1, or HTC HD2, or HTC Desire.. ideas anyone when one of these hits Rogers or Fido.. maybe Telus or Bell even would do...
I'm kinda crying out loud now - selection of cell phones (rather lack of it) is kinda ridiculous.
thank god it isn't another o2 exclusive.
I saw someone a bus pull a nexus one out of their pocket yesterday, in London, which was a bit weird, so there might be some merit to this article, if people are walking around London with possibly test units on them...
Everyone's just gonna get the HTC Desire anyway, or the supersonic if it EVER comes out...
You guys are missing the whole point of Google's launch of the Nexus One, originally to 4 countries: US, UK, Singapore and HK. I am in UK and bought one and love every moment with it. It truly is a superphone. But here is the point that our friends in the US are missing: DTC (direct to consumer) means something real here. In UK, unlike US, there are essentially 5 or 6 GSM network operators, incl Vodafone. By buying SIM free for $529 plus shipping and VAT (it took four days from moment I ordered with engraving to receive), I am not tied into the crap 18 month to 2 year slave contract with the carriers which is great because in 6 months or so when the Nexus Two arrives and I am on a 1 month rolling contract for £15-20 ($23-30) per month, not the $60-80 per month you pay in the US, for 600-900 talk mins, unlimited text and unlimited web browsing. When I buy the Nexus Two, I simply sell my phone on say Ebay and recoup a good portion of my initial outlay. Hence my TCO (total cost of ownership) is far less than the guy who pays £0 up front and £40 per month to Vodafone starting in April and is stuck with the phone for 2 years (while technology moves on). This DTC model of sales is truly disruptive technology from Google because the consumer gets to choose the operator and we get a pure Google Experience superphone, not a diluted experience using HTC Sense UI without choice. Maybe one day the US will have true competition for the user but with T Mob US as the only GSM competitor currently, it is hard to get much competition. Perhaps when Google releases the 3G Nexus One for ATT and the CDMA Nexus One for Verizon, you might see more.
With above in mind, I will be truly fascinated to see how much marketing support Vodafone throws behind the Nexus One when the DTC model is disruptive to them. For the UK guy who wants to be tied down to Nexus One on Vodafone for 2 years (because he/she is not really thinking TCO and does not comprehend what Google is doing), I say good luck---that is what makes horse racing.

Re Palm Pre/Pixi etc
For those who commented above about how pleased they are with the Palm, you might wish to know that in US, sales have been very disappointing and some call it a flop. It launched on Verizon and unlike the Droid launch in Nov/Dec, Verizon put little effort into marketing this device. Shares of Palm have collapsed and some question its viability as a company. I would therefore be very surprised if O2 does not regret its decision to launch Palm in UK instead of really pushing Android devices, now that it has lost its iPhone exclusive to the likes of Vodafone, Orange and Tesco.
