Nexus One hits FCC again, this time in CDMA trim
Remember how we figured out that an AT&T 3G-equipped Nexus One had stumbled its way into FCC certification not long ago? Using the same logic -- mainly label shape and model number -- we can safely say that this latest version to get approval is the dual-band CDMA variant that's almost certainly destined for Verizon within the next few months. There's not terribly much to see in the filing, but hey, take solace in knowing they've cleared this crucial bureaucratic hurdle (of course, Verizon's infamous internal testing is another bureaucratic hurdle altogether).

nexus one or HTC incredible?..decisions decisions
@nerd
I would go with the Nexus One if I were you, just for the fact it will get any Android update, or new Google app before any other phone. You will also have to wait for HTC to update Sense UI for any new version of Android which can take 6 months.
@nerd
My HTC Hero on Sprint is still at 1.5, :-(
@treats Agree 100%. This is Googles baby and it will get everything first.
@nerd
Google is going to sell it themselves, they already have Spring 2010 for the launch date on google.com/phone.
I don't think we're going to have to worry about internal verizon testing...
@nerd
All I have to say is FINALLY! Been waiting with a pretty broken LG Dare since the announcement it was coming to verizon.
Can. Not. Wait. Any. Longer.
@nerd
Neither. Wait for the XDA guys to get Android on the Rhodium-W (Touch Pro2 dual CDMA/GSM) to full-featured state and buy one of those.
Was hoping this version would be for Soviet Canuckistan. Will probably have to wait a year for the paid apps to come to Canada as well.
*sobs*
@alexz
this phone had better be in Holland within a month or i'll start killing the hostages...
@MrJimlad yeah not that funny.
Should I wait for this and bear with using my KRZR for a few more months? Or should I get the Droid asap?
@jbloss
Wait for the N1 over the DROID. Much faster phone, and will always get new updates faster.
Let's see the Nexus One on ALL carriers, please. Anything that promotes the separation between carrier and device is a Good Thing in my book. One day, I hope that I can walk into any electronics store and buy a cellular device that can work on any network.
@scjessey I have a dream!
@scjessey
LTE might make that happen.
Why not Sprint also? What if they sell it online "unlocked" so you can use on Verizon or Sprint?
@mobilehavoc Sprint isn't a big fan of having any new phone technology. They like anything allowed on their network to rot in drawer for a year for "testing" purposes until the technology is completely obsolete and then filled with Sprint crapware -e.g. music store.
Strange they have one of the longest "testing" processes and yet their smart phones have the most obvious bugs that anyone using one of their phones for a day can identify the very first day they are released.
@boe I thought that was Verizon's M.O...
@boe Whats with all the Sprint hate? You've been slamming sprint repeatedly here.
Since you obviously don't remember, Sprint was 6 months ahead of everyone else with the release of WebOS handsets. Just because Sprint doesn't have the latest/greatest android handset doesn't mean they are behind the times with all phones (a complaint that has typically been lodged against Verizon until recently).
@LvsSocer,
You are correct they have the palm - a cheaply made phone with a mediocre OS. It is a fine low to midrange pda phone but certainly nothing I'd want to use or be seen using :)
My sprint hate is because they don't carry any phones I do want - e.g. HD2, TG02 or iPhone. A year ago I would have been happy with the Imagio (which they didn't get but Verizon did). The Nexus One comes in 4th only because it doesn't yet do a good job with MS Exchange sync like iphone and WM do.
I support about 8 Palm Pres now and frankly I really just don't like them and of course that is a matter of taste but I think they are pretty low end. While Web OS has potential it isn't even close to ready yet IMHO. And the phones themselves make me think they should come free with a subscription to Sports Illustrated. Of the 8 people I support who have Palm Pres - only one of them would even consider another palm phone.
Wish this was also coming to Sprint. Though they'll likely continue to be restrictive with their ESN system. Guess I'll just hold out for some Supersonic hotness :)
@alan7467 LOL - I love the fact the article says " we can safely say that this latest version to get approval is the dual-band CDMA variant that's almost certainly destined for Verizon within the next few months" Not even a possibility that it is going to Sprint. Sprint really only sells mid range to very low end pda phones.
As for the Supersonic - the rumor was March, now the rumor is late summer. I'm not exactly holding my breath for the rumored good phone Sprint might carry. I really wish Sprint would carry more business phones or high end smart phones.
@boe Mid range to low PDA phones? The Tour, Hero, and Moment are mid-range to low end?
@boe:
>Palm Pre
>mid-range
How about no.
@michaspi Well.... The Palm Pré Plus is out soooooo he might be right. ;-)
@(Unverified) What would you consider them?
I'm not saying they are crap but they aren't high end either.
I would define at this moment in time a phone with a 1 - 1.5 GHz processors, large screen real estate, VGA resolution or higher - these to me say high end. I'm sure next year that bar will be raised.
Another good sign pointing to this one going to Verizon: No "SIM" logo next to the MicroSD logo. Both the T-Mobile and AT&T versions have little logos saying there's a SIM card inside. Everyone knows Verizon doesn't use SIM cards (except in their few "world" phones, as far as I know).
Regardless, I'm excited. Due for an upgrade in August and hoping to get my hands on one of these.
@mr88 It seems Spring doesn't use SIM cards either. I don't personally know anyone who uses Sprint so I wasn't aware of that.
@mr88
It was already confirmed this would be going to Verizon.

@MONKEY
Should be Sprint not Spring in my last post, my bad. But yeah I knew it was coming to Verizon, I was just pointing out another reason to believe this particular model was Verizon, as Engadget was reporting.
@mr88 verizon's blackberry phones come with sim cards installed for roaming on verizon's intl networks.
@aniym Not all of them. Just the world phones.
I know Sprint has to get this..... But the SuperSonic is a monster like Tyler Myers.... Tuff choices.???
@Staychizzo
If I had a choice I would go with the N1. As I have indicated several times, I'm not buying new pants to fit the Supersonic's Super-colossal footprint. I have a Hero now, and it is pushing my big-o-meter.
Would be amazing if it comes to Sprint! Sooner rather than later.
@allston232 It would be amazing if it makes it to Sprint at all. If they painted it pink, sprint might carry it.
i am hoping that this is for the incredible
Android or W7S Phone? too many choices!!!
@kojo87 Actually, you listed the minimum amount of options to even constitute a choice. Unless you were referring to "choices" on a macro level and therefore labeling "android or W7S Phone" as one choice within the realm of your entire reality. Just sayin' bro.
@flextopia i actually thought of that right after i posted it and was hoping nobody would call me on it. damn you.
I'd rather see a higher end phone android phone hit Verizon with 720p video and HDMI output...but perhaps they may have added that on the Verizon N1?? -- I hope so! The chip is certainly more than capable of both tasks.
does anyone know when this is coming to VERIZON? (other than the "spring)
Hello Verizon
This makes me angry where is the ATT 3g Version? Verizon already has the DROID, this will just slow droid sales. I think most people would rather have a qwerty as it is
@Hydra Not I--give me that nice clean slate with no movable parts!
@flextopia Except for the trackball which I kinda like if nothing else for it's glow that shows notifications.
@Hydra I was on board with an AT&T branded Nexus One, until Dell introduced the mini 5!
Sprint please.
why is the network being labeled as bureaucratic for doing testing? Surely if the iPhone was tested properly when launched it wouldn't have had such terrible radio performance.. Similar goes for the Nexus One which frankly wouldn't have been released on any network in the UK in it's current state.
@Beamo works fine with three here. what are you talking about?
