Nexus One hits FCC again, this time in CDMA trim
Remember how we figured out that an AT&T 3G-equipped Nexus One had stumbled its way into FCC certification not long ago? Using the same logic -- mainly label shape and model number -- we can safely say that this latest version to get approval is the dual-band CDMA variant that's almost certainly destined for Verizon within the next few months. There's not terribly much to see in the filing, but hey, take solace in knowing they've cleared this crucial bureaucratic hurdle (of course, Verizon's infamous internal testing is another bureaucratic hurdle altogether).

@Vizzy Both the 3GS and the Nexus one have pretty poor radio reception. I seriously don't think either would have come out in their release state if the networks had more input. The Nexus one needs a few more updates to sort itself out. And the 3GS is nice, but its a few hardware and software generations from the first device
I was hoping this also had world phone capabilities like the TP2, and the Imagio. Damn it!
CDMA will be dead within 2 years. Nobody else in the world uses it besides Verizon and Sprint and Sprint is dumping it in their 4G rollout.
And Verizon has plans to move to LTE, which may have a great chance of succeeding vs WiMax as more companies plan to use LTE.
@Shalabi Dead in 2 years? try 5-10
and Verizon and Sprint aren't the only carriers in the world using CDMA

@Shalabi But for the time being it gives (at least in my areas I've travled) superior coverage to GSM which is why I'm getting a Nexus One on Verizon in July when my iPhone contract is up.
@Shalabi
Someone has been drinking the Clearwire Koolaide!
fyi all 3G (sans China Mobile) is based on CDMA. Complete coverage roll out of LTE (don't feed me bs about WiMax) will take AT LEAST 5 years, and until then ALL DEVICES will necessarily be dual mode. Not to mention little countries like China (Unicom and Telecom, started 3G roll out a year ago) and India (will start 3G roll out in september) will remain on 3G for the foreseeable future. CDMA LIVES!
@Roark123
Actually, China Mobile uses TD-SCDMA, which is a mix of TDMA and CDMA. The only mobile 3G standards that don't use CDMA at all are EDGE (TDMA) and WiMAX (OFDMA); most people classify EDGE as 2.75G, and WiMAX has only barely started to roll out.
Yeah, 4G will be entirely (O)FDMA-based, but complete rollout is still several years away. And, hey, if carriers still haven't deactivated GSM despite UMTS/HSPA coverage being available for years, it'll probably take several more years after 4G rollout for carriers to deactivate their CDMA systems. Hell, carriers didn't shut down their AMPS and D-AMPS networks until 2008!
Sprint better get this.
@One Love Definately n-o-t
SUPPAAASOONIICC!!!!
Please for the love of God give me an actual release date. Everyday I check this site and Phandroid for a solid release date and this is as excited as I've ever gotten. I have TMO now (G1) and I've been waiting to jump on Verizon because I'm tired of dropped calls and no service in my basement and when I do lose service, and go back to a service zone (sometimes) it won't catch service again til I reboot or airplane mode reboot. CDMA IS DEAD OR NOT GIVE ME RECEPTION ON N1 AND I'LL BE FREEEEEEEE!!!
Dell Mini5 or Nexus One...
Well, if it looks the same as the one we all know, I think I'm going to stick to that slick Dell Mini 5.
@AlexSanchez
Agreed sir. That Mini 5 looks very interesting. I just hope build quality is there.
Mini 5 for $299 with contract and teleconferencing?
@ROMANESQ I bet you a Dell mini 5 it'll match the nexus' $179.99 tag.

@ROMANESQ I bet you a Dell mini 5 it'll match the nexus' $179.99 tag. (Here's to dreaming)
but yeah, video confrencing, bout fuckin' time
Wow how annoying. Engadget app bugged out on me.
The dell 5 is technically not a phone. It's and mid with phone capabilities
What's with saying "hits the x" in all your article titles? Out of the last 3 articles, two involve hitting the FCC and one involves hitting the US. The engadget editors must have anger issues.
@mikethebigo
Now we're going to hit the window! Like a bird!
(apologies to Scott Adams)
Maybe if Palm had done this with the Pre out of the gate (unlocked version, all carriers supported) they wouldn't be in this mess!
Gameover...rite?
Nexus One, Verizon, Touch Pro 2 keyboard would be even better.
Either if this is the incredible or the N1, the next superphone is heading to verizon soon. The moto droid is now offered as a BOGO which means its no longer the top dog on the carrier just like they did with the eris.
"Verizon's infamous internal testing is another bureaucratic hurdle altogether"
^^Where were you when I ordered my Blackberry Storm the day it was released???
@Roark123
Still waiting in line for my xv6800 and touch pro which were both delayed for months.
As much as I really want a phone with keyboard, I'm likely to get this if it's on Sprint. Might even consider an unlocked CDMA.
I just like the Sprint plans so much better than Verizon or AT&T. Over a 2 year plan, Verizon would cost me more than $1000 more.
@andysexton
You must like their pathetic coverage too ;)
@nwhat I have absolutely no problems with Sprint coverage everywhere I go. And my job at times has had me in very rural areas where AT&T and Verizon had NO coverage.
So it depends on where you are.
Thanks for the snark, though. Appreciated.
BTW ...Nexus passed through FCC
