Microsoft's Aaron Woodman just pulled off a little surprise here at The Engadget Show: he brought out LG's Windows Phone 7 Series pre-production prototype! The QWERTY slider is the first branded Windows Phone 7 Series device the world's ever seen, and while the hardware and software are both obviously early, we can tell you a few things about it: it's just a hair thicker than an iPhone or Nexus One, there are dedicated hardware camera, volume, and power buttons in addition to the back, home, and search buttons dictated by Windows Phone 7 Series, and we noticed a five megapixel camera with a flash on the back, along with a headphone jack. Can't say much apart from that right now, since things are so early and everything is subject to change, but things are certainly moving along. It's all going down on the show right now -- see it on video after the break!
If I had to guess, and maybe depending on which demographics this phone does well with... I would not be surprised if there is another version that has a UI that is more business/older demographic focused.
Was it a real volume button or the same thing that the ZuneHD has?
That chrome bezel is so 1999
Uh..where is the proper video? To see it in action? A video of someone holding a mobile isn't so amaizng..
Engadget, blurry cam edition
I find it difficult to find LG and Samsung phones exciting,their smartphones design. usually look like their dump phones and too simple compared to Htc.Both companies usually copy each others design.LG and Samsung are might release impressive phone specifications for wp7 but just too simple hardware design.Htc will release impressive hardware design,my guess it they will start a different kind of wp7 design compared to what we have seen before.Am patiently waiting for Htc's phones.
@yemmy
WM7 series does not allow "skins" like HTC's Sense UI
@yemmy
oh... You meant hardware when you mentioned a different wp7 design, didn't you?
@Sad Sack
yea. i meant hardware design.my hopes are high on htc phone,i hope i dont get disappointed.
OH CRAPULA!!!
said i would never buy another LG after all the crappy dumbphones i had by them in the past, but this thing looks nice. that keyboard looks better than the one on my TP2.
It must have a Swype keyboard or it is out. I am done tapping and clicking.
This phone looks like a generic piece of crap from two years ago. At least now I know I'm not gonna be buying LG's WP7S device...Who's next?
@Fangorn81
Exactly my thought. HTC could maybe have something better.
t's awesome
FUG.
What happened to the LG 12mp cameraphone? This look ok...and that's it.
The HTC Obsession I thought was the HTC HD3, but it turns out it's gonna be the HTC Touch Pro 3.
If the HTC HD3's rumored specs tunr out to be real, that's the one I'm getting, the HD2 will be forgotten once this baby rolls out! Ah screw, think I'll have both.
its a dam good start but I want somthing more.
What's up with these damn keyboards in grid form? When will they learn from HTC?
Huh? Where in the heck do you guys get your marketing information?
Why is the camera facing the other way? The camera should be on a swivel, so it can face the user or what the user sees.
That way we can use it as a video phone.
How long have we been waiting for video phones?
What wrong? You can't handle the bandwidth?
OK I am like the 400th comment, but I wanna say that this is a damn good looking phone (and OS). Currently a happy Verizon Moto Droid owner, but come renew time I may switch over to this. Good job Engadget!

This picture sums up beautifully everything that is wrong with WP7 and Microsoft UIs.
Sigh...yet another slider phone. I would much perfer a slimmer device with a touch keyboard. The problem with these slider phones is that the keys are so small and flimsy they are practically useless. Just look at the Droid as an example. Plus, once you get used to typing on a touch keyboard, you never go back. You can just end up typing so much faster since you don't have to press down on any physical buttons.
dam it the converstation was about to get interesting and they cut the video :|
