The Nielsen Company presented a cadre of individuals with a list of nice, shiny gadgets and let them cross off anything and everything they'd like to buy in the next six months, and 31 percent of kids 6-12 picked the iPad as one of them.

Just buy whatever you want. If you want to worry about what other people might think of you for something that you bought then you've got bigger issues than the type of gadget in your bag. Seriously, no one cares.
@Kelmon reminds me of when i bought my ASUS EeePC 701 the day it was released and took it to school. everyone said "why would you want such a small computer? doesn't make sense. nobody wants that." now look where netbooks are.
