Yo guys whats up? Me and a friend are playing Splitscreen MW2 on my fucked up Fat 60GB PS3 right now. The way to do it, is to select multiplayer really fast and there you go. No Pwning online but pwning roommates is the way to go right now.
Peace
A friend of mine got screwed while he was playing MW2. That's what i call a tango down!!
all this ps3 talk has got me in the mood for a game
of FIFA online.
Bah!
This will indeed be very interesting, in light of all this, im going to cut my losses, take back white knight chronicles, and leave my ps3 off till FInal fantasy XIII comes out, if its not fixed buy then, sony can get me a new slim 250gb...
Didn't know about this issue until this morning. Last night when I got on Midnight Club Los Angeles my Range Rover was gone (which is one of the add on packs I paid for) and I was put in an 80's Volswagen Golf! The only good thing is that it acted as if I sold the car in game so I got MCLA money to get another car. The bad part is I paid for the add ons and I better get them back once it's fixed! If Sony does a recall they better give me a new ps3. I really hope Sony can fix it without a recall because I like my big boneded PS3. But a newer updated Slim version wouldn't hurt if there is a recall.
@Smrtfonephane
damn a recall.. My limited Edition 80GB (160 now) has 4 usb ports, card reader, you can install Linux (not that i plan on it) and Backwards compatibility.
I feel like they owe me more than a slim which is valued at half what I paid for mine...
Wow!! I'm glad I watched on demand instead of on my PS3 last night .
for all of you that can't wait for the possible fix to come out.. here's a link of a guy that claims to have fixed it by removing the internal battery and placing it back in...

This will of course void your warranty, and don't get mad at me if it doesn't work...
@elijahblake
by the way, when is the 24 hour period supposed to be over with exactly?
Come on Sony... The "Clock" is ticking
Publicity stunt.
Nothing to see here folks move along, PS3's are only good for Blu Rays anyway.
I watched 2 Blu-ray movies last night. Why does a PSN failure cause loss of all of my downloaded themes? A Xbox Live failure never causes corrupt data. You just can't play certain games until Live is back up.
@Xybr
It's not a PSN issue though, it's a problem with the console hardware or firmware, not being able to connect to PSN is just one side effect.
No connection to the network? What is this 1999?!
lol
@Kaiboy12
no, but i'm gonna party like it is!
So, Engadget says it's PSN and Sony says it's THE CLOCK. So what it it now?
@pankomputerek
Hammer Time!
My "fat" playstation worked fine last night. i played for a couple hours before and after midnight.
@gyroslice Same, I unlocked 10 new trophies in Uncharted 2 after midnight.
@Jake Smith
It's an issue with GMT not your local time. But it may still work until you restart.
Damn... I turned mine on before I turned on my computer...
The Y2K bug finally hit the PS3's. :P
Posted as a joke commenting on Sony's announcement about the relaunch of the PSP Go.
"Hey you guys, you need to buy this new version. Don't make us release some firmware to brick all your old PSP's like we are doing the PS3's now."

All joking aside, it really shines an ugly light on the current state of online purchases.
If THEIR system goes down, you're out of luck even though you paid for the game.
I can't even play the games I bought OFFLINE! Guess its back to used games for me.
Oh and it wasn't late last night. It was somewhere in the afternoon. I was actually online at the time. I picked up Super Street Fighter II Turbo HD Remix and then it choked. It was about 2:45 p.m. PST. I have the e-mail notification.
What ticks me off is that Sony hasn't seen fit to mass-email everyone who has an account registered. Not everyone checks the internet to see why its network is down. Im sure when you registered Sony saw fit to record what hardware you're using, so its not that hard to know which Consoles are likely to be affected.
my 160gb ps3 is working fine and it's a "fat" one
I wish I would have read Engadget sooner, all my ps3 data is gone!
PSN is back up, sony moved the clock back one month, so now my ps3 reads 4/29, internet time.
MY PS3 IS FIXED....i fixed it myself just now, requires getting a tad messy, but was actually quite easy....just had to open it up, remove the right screws, access the CMOS battery that is to the left of the Blu ray drive, but underneath, unplug and then replug, restart PS3 set date and time and poof problem fixed, all trophies remain intact and just played some Modern Warfare 2, if you got some questions IM me on aim GTP04
PSN is back up and running, to fix the time just have your PS3 get it via internet under date and time settings. (Phatty PS3)
Thank god I haven't turned my PS3 on in curiosity! Too bad I planned on playing it tonight.
Its too bad that I turned my fat ps3 on because I hadn't been on the internet in a while. Now my clock says its 1999 again. I havn't lost any data but I probably won't try to do anything until this is fixed.
I just updated the time on my PS3 via the internet and it connects to PSN now. I have one of the fat ones that wasn't working this morning. It gave me an error and didn't have my Sackboy Dynamic Theme. It got corrupted and I had to redownload it. It's all working fine for me now. I'm going to wait until tomorrow to really play anything though. Don't want to have my stuff corrupted, but it looks ok to me now.
Couple of things:
1. I'm a little confused about how this is a "Y2K-type bug". The problem surfaced in the middle of the day on Feb 28th, not midnight between the 28th and the 1st, so it's not like my clock was "rolling over" when it crashed. Is this really related to a leap year issue, or is it some other clock function?
2. To those bitching about having a "$600 paperweight", etc... Just stop it. Things get fixed. And if for some reason you have to send your unit in, Sony will take care of you. They don't want to lose you to the other guys.
3. And being without your system for 36 hours doesn't mean Sony should "open up the PSN store for a day". If Sony is smart, they will offer something small and conciliatory. An apology would be nice as well.
4. Now is an excellent time to get some Vitamin D. In other words, go outside (WARNING: There are other living things out there).
5. To those claiming Sony is "doing nothing" or "just waiting for it to fix itself". Yep, that's what they are doing. They enjoy taking a beating in every trade publication and alienating their customer base for every second the problem goes unresolved. Meanwhile, they have NO INTEREST in getting the issue solved as soon as possible. It's not like they would be selling games, videos and DLC via the PSN.
Problem is over. Was definitely the Leap-Year Bug.
At 7pm EST, it was 12am GMT which is what the system clock goes by. Thus, it was down for exactly 24 hours.
so does this mean that firmware bug that killed the optical drive on older ps3's is fixed? I just bought a sony refurb 160GB from ebay for $500 and i don't want it to be bricked.
