Optoma adds HW536 and EX762 DLP projectors to the 3D party
If 3D monitors aren't doing it for you, here are a couple of larger display options -- our lucky pals over at Engadget Chinese witnessed the birth of Optoma's two new 3D projectors in Taiwan yesterday. Pictured on the left is the HW536 cinema DLP projector (NT$36,900 or about US$1,150), which has HDMI input and projects a 1,280 x 800 image at 2,800 lumens with a 3,000:1 contrast ratio. Next up is the EX762 business DLP projector (NT$79,900 or US$2,490) that also sports HDMI input and a network jack, while delivering a 1,024 x 768 resolution at 4,000 lumens and a 3,000:1 contrast ratio. Just to add a tad more burden to your overdraft, each pair of ZD101 shutter glasses -- not bundled with either projectors -- will cost you a further NT$4,000 (US$125), in return offering a wireless range of up to eight meters courtesy of Texas Instruments' non-directional DLP Link technology (so no need to position any external emitters). A couple of close-up photos after the break.

That picture convinces me 3d will be an epic fail...
@oldpass56
i thought this at first but with not only movies, but TVs, monitors, projectors, etc. being released, they've started to convince me of otherwise, sadly.
@iroq d mullet
p.s. - until they figure out how to make 3d work without having to wear them glasses, i refuse to give in to this fad! final!
@oldpass56 That picture is epic...
@oldpass56
Oh yeah! Now i really want one.. wtf.
Q: Are We Not Men? A: We Are Devo!
Is it really so difficult for Optoma or Acer to put in 1080p into a 3D projector?
Seriously, those specs suck the wad.
"the HW536 cinema DLP projector (NT$36,900 or about US$1,150), which has HDMI input and projects a 1,280 x 800 image"
1280 x 800 is NOT "cinema". It's not even 2K, let alone the 4K that you really need for cinema.
I didn't know Cyclops had an Asian brother.
and sister.
Will that first pic be used in a caption contest??
LMFAO!!! XD
They better not ware the glasses in the photo. That only make them funny anyway.
@mianmian
No, it was the thumbs up pose; it totally takes away any serious product cred.
I was looking at my screen from far and I thought this was some kind of tech-wedding again ... I couldn't figure out what they were holding though.
I thought that said ' Obama joins the 3D party with HW536 and EX762 DLP projectors' at first!
Woooo! Now I understand why sunglasses are so popular!
he could be the bad guy in some movies, protecting his eyes before he's launching something very evil.
ha retro 3d glasses design. I sort-of like them better than the one Nvidia made that looks more like sunglasses.
Those glasses on women look everything but sexy.
1080p or not interested
@MaxL
1080 X 3 :P
Awesome now my presentations at the office will finally be more entertaining, gives new meaning to 3D pie chart.
I read this as octomom first. What the fuck is wrong with me.
Good lord that is a horrendous picture. It looks like an Asian businessman and his paid escort singing 3D Karaoke.
That seems way overpriced for shutter glasses.
I got shutter glasses bundled with an nVidia TNT2 video card 10 years ago, and the shutter glasses certainly didn't add $125 to the price!
nothing wrong with a cute asian wearing a metallic two piece dress holding a $4,000 projector and wearing 3d glasses.
i wear my 3d glasses at night...
Everything already in 3 dimensions with that ganja man..
I think that photo wins as one of the most bizarre publicity photos you've ever published.
The thumbs up gesture just makes it perfect.
This isn't Optoma's first 3D projectors. I have had an Optoma HD66 at home for almost a month now. It does 3D.
@droberts Weird. Somehow we missed that model. Thanks -- have updated post.
@Richard Lai. No problem. I suggested a review on it to Engadget HD a few weeks ago. It is a great intro projector (720p). I would recommend it to anyone and @ $679 you can't beat that.
Actually a "3D party" would be a brilliant Art Installation.
Imagine everyone dressed up all formal and wearing the glasses, as drinkies and snackies are being passed around. On the walls 3D projectors are showing all sorts of weird arty 3D imagery, making the wall appear to be bubbling with blood and other strangeness.
It'd be a very wild, surreal evening.
They 80s called, they want their glasses back.
@Vexorg ♫ it was acceptable in the 80's...it was acceptable at the time ♫
Yea I want 1080p dammit.
Why aren't projectors displaying 1080?
they need to get kanye on the 3d bandwagon.
nobody else can sell shuttershades like him.
1080p polarized or I don't care
@LazarusDark...exactly!
How to look like a complete dork for $125,-! Even the, probably, good looking chick looks like one.
Eh, a step in the right direction. I don't see why everyone is so resistant. If you don't like the obnoxious glasses, don't wear 'em in public! I don't worry about how I look when I'm on my couch watching a movie.
And soon enough they'll be rolling out the 1080p models, too.
I'm not in love with the glasses and I know they're working on glasses-free tech(which should really win all but the most resistant luddites over), but meantime I can deal with looking funny in the comfort and privacy of my own living room.
