Hey BlackBerry friends -- we've got some news for you. The Engadget application (which is also available for the
iPhone / iPod touch and
webOS devices) has gone and gotten itself a little update on RIM's platform. It's nothing crazy, but we've made some bug fixes, and more importantly, added support for 5.0 devices (Bold, Curve, and Tour)! The devs also thoughtfully included keyboard shortcuts (T, B, N, P, and the spacebar) in this version for your convenience. All you have to do to get your hands on this baby is point your phone's browser to our
download page, or if you've already got the app installed, it should prompt you for an update automatically next time you open it. Storm users -- we are working on a version for you as well, and everyone who is curious about the Android app: you should see it released this month!
Great. Where is the Android Love?
This Android app better be able to scratch my back while feeding me after how long it took to get out.
Is there an explanation Mr. Topolsky?
@iDavey
He hates you. Well, either that, or the web browser is so good on there already that they didn't see it as a priority.
...no. He definitely hates you.
Is Android harder to develop apps for?
For a blog that cuts its eye at "Time frames" companies give "March" is not exactly specific science.
The BlackBerry app is great but what about the ability to at least view comments? Usually these are the most entertaining thing about the stories.
Guys i need help. my bb bold 9700 says "download failed with error detail 907 invalid COD file not found. what shall i do? thanks in advance.
@Daveiops
Get a Nexus One or iPhone
@Plazmic Flame
Be real. I asked for assistance with the blackberry and u reply that. what makes u think I don't have either?
Grow up.
iPhone, Blackberry, webOS, Android coming.... where the turdstorm is the windows mobile app??? At least mention whether it's planned or not.
@XDAfan
Topolsky actually said WP7S......so maybe no WinMo app, although WP7S is a bit far away from now.
@Plazmic Flame ahh, well i'd expect a WP7S app, but come on there are tons of WM users out there... WP7 won't be out for 9 months at best and even then Microsoft already said WM6.5 devices will continue launching.
Hey, great! Maybe I should trade in my Android phone -- You know, the platform with record growth rates, and more phones slated for future release than any other platform -- for a BB phone or an Iphone...or even a (soon to be bankrupt) Palm phone!
Is it worth it to use the app, or is the browser good enough?
I'm glad you got that out, but on WebOS 1.4 the Engadget app doesn't load the comments. Perhaps you should work on that.
please have one for android already. i grow tired of having to go into the browser and navigate to the full engadget site. because the mobile engadget site is just not the same.
Looking forward to a Symbian app, 5th and 3rd Edition.
Wow. My fellow Android lovers are getting to be pretty brutal lately. I mean, I know it's been a long, long, LONG wait (especially knowing Engadget's pro-Apple status) but they've said plenty of times it's coming this month. Patience is a virtue guys. It's not like the browser can't handle full Engadget, I've been on it every day on my phone.
Yay Highlighting got fixed on lists!
Tried the first BB iteration and my 9700 soon started lagging. Uninstalled.
Opera Mini 5 loads the full Engadget in seconds. I'd reinstall the app only if it was possible to stream videos.
OMG Why cant you make it for the storm yet... i love this site but dang man.
Has it been officially confirmed that apps made for WinMo 6.5.x and below will not work at all on WPS7? Just make one for WinMo and then update it for 7. More people use WinMo than WebOS but they still get an app. Wheres the love?
This app is pretty cool. Thx Engadget!
Wow... Thanks for showing the love to us Android users. You've developed apps for iPhone, Blackberry and webOS AND you've already given iPhone and BB upgrades and we have STILL not gotten our own application... Why do you hate us so much?
I have come to a conclusion: Android users are a bunch of whiners! We get the point, OK?
how about an engadget app for zune hd?!?!?... yes i know its a longshot.... but it was worth a try
@BajanDude Unfortunately, there's no 3rd party apps.
Although Engadget could try and convince MS to make one for them. *puppydogeyes*
I'm really hoping WP7 apps will eventually be cross-compatible with the Zune at least to a logical extent
@KeegdnaB
yea i know and Microsoft better has have cross-compatibility to the zune hd to a FULL extent... however it runs on WP7 i want it to run like that on the zune hd
So when is the Android App coming, hints anyone.
Where the hell is the Android app come on everyone returned their Palm Pre's I know it's easier to write and app for them damnit lol.
But seriously what about android I guess none of you guys have android phones.
Added 5.0 support?
You mean it wasn't there before?
Tell that to my Tour that's been running it fine.
umm since when was 5.0 released?
@petepete BlackBerry OS 5.0 was released in 2009
This version is working much better on my Bold 9700!
your updating it for other platforms but you still need to do andriod
I said it before, I'll say it again...A*N*D*R*O*I*D!*!*!*!*!
Where's the android version?
I'll take that...
Where is the Android Love?
good to see you're still working on android..
oh wait..
If you want to see the Android App for yourself, watch the 3/1 Engadget show, and scroll to the 1 hour 8 minute mark. They do a brief demo with a dev version. Enjoy.
You guys are running out of March for that Android app...
*goes back to waiting ever so impatiently*
