We normally wouldn't cover something so procedural, but given the heightened interesting
Apple's patent dealings this week, we thought we'd note that Cupertino's
tiff with Nokia in the federal courts has been put on hold while
both companies argue their case before the US International Trade Commission. We expected the ITC
to be the primary front in this fight from the start, but now we'll be particularly focused on the Commission's ruling, since several of the patent claims Apple's asserting against Nokia in this case are also being claimed against HTC. We don't have a timeline on when the Commission will reach a decision, but we'll keep an eye on things.
Oh no they did not!
@iBurger
I wish all the trolls died of hypersonic diarrhea... maybe someone will put speakers in front of your house and play the Brown Note for a few hours
@hdawggy
Wouldn't it be awesome if the judge got so pissed off about all this non sense that he would just turn around and get rid of intellectual property rights altogether? :-)
I can dream can't i?
@hdawggy
I hope Apple gets everything thats coming to them for all this bull, and im not talking ab money, i want to see the itc hand down a mutual ban, ban both Nokia and Apple sales in the US, mutual only because I would love to see how Apple would try and spin that as a victory while losing 40% of its market
@hdawggy
Imagine being an apple lawyer an waking up one day having to face microsoft, google, HTC and those other mutlibillion dollar companies with combined lawyers of mighty power.
s.o.l.
@wsh03370 You do know that Nokia is suing Apple not the other way around don't you?
@angermeans
You do know that Apple counter-sued Nokia don't you? I mean, Nokia did sue Apple first, but your statement "and not the other way around" is a bit of a lie, don't ya think?
@corneliusm
Not really, you were talking as if Apple sued first. Apple would never have countersued Nokia if they didn't sue Apple in the first place.
Not that I'm taking sides or anything, it's just fact.
@Neotyguy40 - You're right Neotyguy - Apple would never sue first. Like how they never sued HTC first.
It's all a marketing ploy to advertise Apple
@camroncake
Advertise Apple? I guess for non-Engadget readers, people will believe that companies are actually ripping off Apple's abundance of innovations....
"Your honor counsel requests that that Apple's testimony be thrown out on the grounds of extreme douchbaggery."
@hdawggy
"Your honor counsel requests that that hdawggy's first post be thrown out....."
@logicbombde
HA!
@logicbombde
Motion granted.
What an interesting year so far...

@DoctarPeppar More than one non-native App.
@d0mth0ma5

You are BRILLIANT...BRILLIANT!!
GENIUS!!
@DoctarPeppar
MAGICAL?
@Delta
Engage in a MAGICAL journey with the most intelligent device ever created by human beings!
There seems to be a bunch of coverage with apple and patent cases these days.
@cr8tive yea....because apple's suing everybody
@cr8tive looks like "think different" means be like Microsoft. I guess Apple is the new MS. How the world turns.
@wsh03370 Or, they've instigated action on just one company.
But facts would prevent your trolling fun, right?
@RidleyGriff Suing one, counter-suing a couple. But this is (as has been mentioned umpteen times on umpteen of these stories) just protecting products/patents, maybe getting a bit of money, maybe a bit of cross-liscensing. Does anyone really think that one of these suits will destroy any of these companies? I'm not talking worst case scenario, I mean in actual real life.
@d0mth0ma5 Agreed 100% on all points -- just tired of the lazy thinking that equates counter-suing Nokia with "suing everybody".
Then again, if I'm tired of lazy thinking, I probably shouldn't be hanging out in the comments sections of gadget blogs. Wouldn't want to be part of any club that would have me as a member. Zing!
@d0mth0ma5 They don't need to destroy a company to make the marketplace worse for consumers.
Apple is the new Rambus
@Lord Vader
Today will be a day long remembered. It has seen the death of iPhone, and will soon see the end of the Apple.
The ITC, a protectionist relic from the FDR days, will be deciding whether Apple can import phones that clearly violate Nokias 3G patents from China and whether Nokia can import phones that may violate Apple's UI related patents from (probably China). It would be funny if the ITC ruled in favor of both until they settle. Funnier still if Nokia then refuses to settle for 6 months!!
@(Unverified)
Maybe Steve Jobs will have to start building iPhones in his garage.
@Bosco Well,it would definitely be a win for nokia that way.
@Canucker The line to Steves garage would circle the globe.
Do lawyers contribute to GDP or to the national debt?
@Canucker The GDP. Lawyers are people with jobs, you know! :)
@Canucker To the demise of common sense, humanity and subsequently mankind. I say shoot em all before its too late.
@Bahumbug I know a great guy who could get you off tha... wait...
@Nilay Patel
Hehehe "Lawyers are people".. In some occasions this might be considered as a blasphemy hehehe. Also Lucifer has no problem with them :P
@Sor1 He saves them the 8th (sometimes 9th) circle
ou should of have HTC, Nokia, Google attacking apple instead of apple trying to eat nokia...
@Dking7
ou should of have spell checkered and makening moar sents
apple u suck
@lightforce A suckle pup
Anagram solved. I assume that's why you were here.
@ChazClout
Yes, cos they were going to go into court tomorrow and have it all wrapped up before the weekend.
A court case got delayed, it's like you never heard of that happening before.
Apple and Lawsuits? Never.
@ChazClout Settle? In our moment of triumph? I think you overestimate their chances.
Didn't Nokia sue Apple first? Unless you're a pure bred European why would Apple be considered the villian here?
Why should Nokia's patent be more defensible than Apple's?
What I really think is going on is people are upset that an American company is doing well v. their European competitor.
Those mocking the ipad are a few weeks away from looking like total fools - again.
For all the criticism the Apple TV gets, there isn't a product in it's class selling more HD movies and TV shows. Last I checked apple tv did over 2x the revenue (movies and tv) than xbox 369, which would be the closest competitor. Sales were up 35% over last year. Which comparable product did 35% growth? It hasn't done well only in comparison to Apple products. For anyone else it would be a decent hit.
