Oh, you thought we were done with ASUS' new Eee PC models at CeBIT. That's cute. In addition to launching the aluminum
1018P and 1016P, ASUS has also quietly released the 1015PE and 1015P (or Diary series as it says on the units), which look to be joining the Seashell line with some minor design tweaks. The 1016PE's faux dark wood lid has a more professional look, and its shape reminds us somewhat of
HP's Mini 5102. On the other hand, the 1015P has a white, softer-looking matte lid and an updated touchpad with integrated mouse buttons. Inside it appears they will be available with Intel's Pine Trail Atom N450 and N470 processors, and apparently the
forthcoming N455 and N475 CPUs. Last but not least, ASUS also seemed to whip out the race car-inspired, kid-intended 1001PQ that has the same specs as the 1005PE
we reviewed awhile back. We don't know about you, but we'd actually dig that design for ourselves. Until the next Tales from ASUS' Eee PC booth update, we leave you with the hands-on pictures below.
Am I the only one who thought the dimples on the trackpad were great? Why are they shying away from them now?
@pavlindrom Agreed. Typing this on my 1005HA, and I love the track pad. I was looking at one of their more expensive laptops for my next main machine, and in part that was because I really like the trackpad (and keyboard) experience on this. Also, am I the only person who isn't a fan of Chiclet keyboards?
@pavlindrom I actually hated the dimpled trackpad, and am glad they're getting rid of it. Still, I wish they'd give us a choice. But then again, I wish every company would give us more choices. Sigh...
@pavlindrom I hate the dimpled trackpad as well. too slippery.
why is ASUS releasing so many models with so many unusual numbering and naming, it's really confusing
@Jimbojones Same here.. I guess we just need to see this one to be reviewed. Btw, Each of the new models will sport a 10-inch screen, a chiclet keyboard, a webcam, a double array microphone, and a promised 14-hours of battery life for the 1015P and 1016P. Cases will be made of aluminum. More: http://bit.ly/asus-3e-1018p-1016p-updates
@Jimbojones
I personally think that lots of models being confusing is outweighed by the fact you have enough selection to get more or less the exact specs you want.
You think the fake woodgrain "has a more professional look"? It reminds me of the Atari 2600, personally.
@DustinM That's a good thing! Bring back the woodgrain theme on all devices.
In reality I could care less what the outside color is like. Until it has a dedicated GPU and not a weak Pinetrail GPU I'm not interested.
Are they ever gonna get to the N43, N63, N73 part of the ASUS booth?
I doubt that the N series will be what Im looking for either though.
Was really hoping for a stylish notebook I can game on to come out of CeBit either from ASUS or HP :(
OMG, they are still making more models?
See it's easy to get START!

1015PE is HOT
much improved compared to the seashell design.
@Peytral true
i'm in love with the main pic of this article
I like the dark wood model. Is the yellow one trying to pass its self off as a Mustang or something?
@Ash1402 : that's what she said?
The 1015PE looks gorgeous, but does anyone else think it looks uncomfortably similar to the HP Mini 5101? http://www.linuxfordevices.com/images/stories/hp_mini5101_closed_sm.jpg
I REALLY love the look of the 1015PE.. but honestly wish the screen was larger. Could almost fit a 13" screen in there by the looks of the bezel!
Awesome design. Slick.
Awesome looking netbook but I can't figure out Asus logic in making this.
Its like you have a great outside but inside it Atom and 1024x600.
Having an Acer 1410, its as light as a netbook but I get 1366x766 and an ULV cpu.
Put that freakin great design to good use Asus.
Make it the same design with a 11.6" screen and ULV and you have a winner.
Its not a surprise why the 1410 is selling so well.
For $400 you can get a 11.6" with higher resolution, ULV u3500 even U2300, a long lasting flushed battery and light weight.
Why would you spend $300-$350 for an Atom netbook with lower resolution ??
I have had a netbook with 1024x600 before and I will not go back.
niiice...love the design very sexy...lil too Apple-isc, but still looks great o_0
I had the seashell 1005ha and that was the best design without crossing the copying border. Also they should call this the Smack-a-hook Hoe! : )
Because this is $600 cheaper, better battery life and way better finishes...
am I the only one that find Atom ridiculous now? It has been the same CPU for about 2 years now? The latest changes just seem to bring IGP and maybe memory controller... making it SOC.. or getting closer to it... not much performance gain... oh, and the stupid 1GB RAM limit, if you insist on a limit... 2GB would be nice. Windows 7 would be better for it. Then again, if you want Windows 7, you should probably spring the extra $50 for Ion graphics Some of the ULV cpu's are getting to be in the same price range.
@xtasi
Atom 450 & 470 can handle 2gb @667mhz and have way better battery life than any multitasking processor.
I love what they're doing with their new set of netbooks. The biggest reasons I've been shying away from netbooks has bee all the glossy and "ergonomics", even Lenovo went all fingerprint magnet after their first netbook :'(
Thanks Asus, now if the price is reasonable, I'm definitely buying.
@Ptr
1005hap was the best netbook Ive ever had and thats comparing it to my s10-3t too with the same battery life. 9 hard hrs!!!
Engadget,
Please consider putting a ruler or an object (soda can) next to these laptops so we can get idea of size perspective. All these laptops look great, but I really am struggling to compare the sizes of these laptops.
A visual comparison would be much appreciated the next time you guys do these conventions.
I love ASUS
