This sucks! I have a 27" iMac, and as I don't live in the USA I'm obviously allowed to tether my iPhone to anything and use it's data. If I REALLY can't tether the iPad to the iPhone then I'll have to seriously consider the 3G version, which I don't want or need.
Apple allows me to tether my iPhone with any Netbook! I tether my iPhone currently to an ancient Clamshell G3 toiletseat iBook. Why the hell can't I tether to a friggin iPad???
how do you as a company rip your customers off in such a blatant fashion.
you force your customers to keep in house (meaning only use apple products) then try to gauge them every chance you get.......
you make them pay more for a device so it can get online then you force them to pay extra for the privilege.
I guess this is going to be another apple TV product......just another hobby
Easily solved by Jailbreaking your iPhone. Make it a wifi hotspot, problem solved. Really not an issue.

the ipad is a contend consumer. it's job is to go head to head with the kindle and take you straight to the istore where surprise you can buy other stuff. dollars drive everything. too bed cuz it's a nice piece of hardware.
Give me options. If i want to run one program at time or multiples. If i want to waste my battery to tethering leave me waste my battery.

But hey customers we have an iPad with 3G data plan. How we sell it?
I don't even need to read the comments to know that a lot of them are completely stupid.
You only need tethering if cell network isn't an option, like on a laptop with no 3G card.
Since the iPad can be bought with a cell radio, there is no need for tethering.
I know, right? It's the simplest thing in the world to understand, but somehow all the Apple haters just can't wrap their tiny brains around it.

Why spend $130+ extra for the 3G iPad when you can tether iPhone with the unlimited data that you are already paying for? To me, this is a real good reason to jailbreak your iPhone. You'll save tons of cash over time. Unless you are into throwing out cash for no good reason, the throw some my way! Oh..., the wifi jailbreak app is called MyWi. Do yourself a favor and look into it.
