I don't necessarily think it looks like crap, but I can't fathom as to why Motorola would invest money into a dying technology.
@RockNStuff Nostalgia's sake.. No? This is a rugged version of old moto-models, strange thing though is.. why would moto want to release this one... Concepts of Opus: http://bit.ly/motorola-opus-expectations
@RockNStuff Moto OWNS the iDEN technology. They created a proprietary tech and network and hold all PTT users (that need real time push to talk) hostage.
Really? 1.5? Is this article really from 2009 or something? Well, it IS iDen, why soup it up ...
@Valicore Why is it that iDEN always gets the outdated stuff.. Android v2 has been out for how long? How hard would it really be to put the latest version on there before shipping it out? Nextel finally got a newer Blackberry from the i7100 and they give us a slightly updated Curve, which had already been 2 years old on every other carrier. Plus the network is so slow that you can't use it for anything that needs bandwidth. They finally get an Android phone and we get 1.5?
I suppose, though, that they are trying to push people away from iDEN. I know I wouldn't be using it if it weren't for work refusing to get away from annoying direct connect. I will be so happy when the iDEN network finally dies.
@ArcSyn Maybe it was just cheaper to use the older version... the only way I can see this as having any kind of market adoption is if it happens to be "PowerSource" - CDMA for Voice and Data and iDEN for Direct Connect.
@ArcSyn
look how many other phones are still shipping with cupcake!! its not just iden.
i keep telling my older brother to get with the times and get off boost mobile... but he refuses. im not all up on the nextel/iden thing... so would this work on his network? i swear id probably get it for him. his flip motorola i9 sux the floor (AND its been crapping out on him lately too)
@skyblaze
boost mobile uses the nextel iden network.
@skyblaze
thanks, dood. i just told him about it and he's all "thats great! now all we need is a 3G network for boost and i'd be pimpin' pimpin' "(yes.he said it twice. -__-') anyways... it'd probly make a cool gift. sucky iden or not. still don't know why he's too stubborn to move to tmo though.
@skyblaze
Well, I still use Boost because I'm a cheap bastard, and aat $20 every three months it's the least expensive way to have a phone. Of course, I don't make a whole lot of calls, so it works for me.
@skyblaze Boost also uses the Sprint CDMA 3G network. The most reliable 3G network. Amazing price for great coverage, speed, and service for non-smart phones
Um get an iPhone it's one of the most resourceful investments you can buy.
To be quite honest I have not researched these phones that are slowly leaking out but u know what the economy is garbage right now so if it's more affordable than an iPhone which is a great phone but darn expensive for having a data plan ? I could go on forever about how good the iPhone is but honestly for this specific topic this is the phone that replaces a "cheap" motorolla phone so it does not become just a paper wieght.
looks pretty cheap...
Moto still screwing people on screen size... do they really need that giant button?
ppfffttttt. How old are Moto's designers? 9?
Iden doesn't need it. I swear that their network is slow to start with.
I cant believe that iDen is STILL around.
What does iDen have that makes it worth continuing to support? (both for Motorola and for Sprint Nextel)
@jonwil hardly
Come on MOTO pls enough with releasing outdated firmware this is redonkulous
Cool?
Someone has to start competing with nokia in the cheap-smartphone market.
....yawn....
fugly, cheap, horrible....
Think it's insane Sprint doesn't have a Motorola Android device yet. I just don't get this carrier sometimes. It's to the point where a new device is speculated to come to CDMA, it's automatically considered a Verizon phone.
@Sin City I think it's insane they're so damn tight lipped about EVERYTHING. I am not on a contract with them and it's killing me to not have a good Android phone for my Sprint account! I'm using a Nexus One on T-Mobile now but the 3G is so spotty it hurts.
@Sin City Well they have Android phones from HTC and Samsung.
Here is what I don't understand. Why don't they make this a Hybrid phone. CDMA/iDen is would make any PDA a hit. CDMA for cellular and data and iDen for ptt. For those who still use iDen would agree this is a must and would be a plus for this type of phone and users.
iDEN will be around for a long time. Nextel still has a huge following by public safety, government, and buisness users. The network may be ancient by all means but it is probably the most reliable network out there. Whens the last time you heard an iDEN network outage? Personally I've never experienced any problems for the past 6 years. And yes the data portion of the network is horribly slow but it was never really intended to do that in the first place. Say what you will but this device will be a nice upgrade on Nextels line up.
Not bad ... If you like snail-speeds =]
1.5... come on Moto, you're shooting yourself in the foot. Not that I've ever been that excited about MotoBlur anyway, but...
This phone looks like it's been beaten.
Literally.
The area where the light is reflecting looks like it's dented on the right side.
Got beaten with the ugly stick, literally.
Yeat another ugly phone from Motorola..
BLUR? Seriously? Meh, I'd still buy it (for the cheap "when-you-absolutely-need-it" data), but I'll be crossing my fingers for a way of gutting BLUR out of the ROM.
Yeah... it has the strange motorola design for IDEN devices... but a touch phone with android... even it's not the latest OS/hardware will be very wellcome! Good news for me i guess!
From a design stand point IDEN phones almost always suck....this one seems no different.
People still use iDEN so someone somewhere will buy this.
they could have at least put on 1.6
why is blur always on 1.5 or 1.6? they could put it on 2.0
Forgot who made it but overseas (outside USA) there's an Android phone coming out for the cheap-cheap of well under a hundred bucks. If this phone'll be doing the same then I don't see the big deal. Ok ok it should at least be doing 1.6 (all phones @ this point should be where the G1 is at at the very least) but otherwise this kicks the ass of what a sub $100 phone would get someone - damn sure wish I had this for an option back in my not-so-smart-flip-phone days.
@pachi72
maybe so, but its running on an Iden carrier
