What's better than gaming on one 3D screen? Gaming on three, of course. We're no strangers to
NVIDIA's 3D Vision along with the
Acer and Alienware displays, but the company has unveiled its 3D Vision Surround capability at CeBIT that lets you play 3D games on three 1080p 3D displays simultaneously. Yeah, it's as crazy as it sounds -- we got to throw on a pair of the glasses and it's one seriously panoramic and immersive experience. What won't be as pleasing is how much a set-up like this will cost you -- you'll need three 3D screens, and a rig with an GeForce GTX 480 SLI configuration or higher (the desktop we saw had two GeForce GTX 280 GPUS). NVIDIA will officially launch the whole platform along these new GeForce GTX 480/470 GPUs later this month.Thinking about digging into your savings? Maybe the video after the break will put an end to your wavering.
I wanna try:(
@ashleythehottiest
you can do it yesterday
I bet if you pull the vision surround sticker off, it says ATi Eyefinity
@JeremyBenthem
Since when does eyefinity support 3d?
@erikgolson since the 10.3 preview beta was released.
Gaming heaven.
@werty1432k
YES! It can play arcade-perfect Darius!
http://www.2atoms.com/images/game/arcade/darius_lg.png
@werty1432k bezel hell.
But can it run Crysis 2?
@Cynical Hippie Yeah, but it cannot run pong.
@Nitesh i would imagine playing the classic pong, in 3d, on 3 screens will be harder than crysis...
@Cynical Hippie yes, but for $1400 when you could have it from ATi for $400
OMG THE NEXT GEN GAME SYSTEMS BETTER BE ABLE TO DO THIS STUFF!
@abedinthehouse, 3D is a given, but not sure how many have 3 identical 1080P 3D capable screens around.
(not saying it wouldn't be awesome)
@abedinthehouse
The PS3's original spec called for two HDMI ports, so it's not unreasonable that they might carry through with it next gen.
@abedinthehouse The consoles will always be behind this stuff. It will never happen.
@abedinthehouse
Sony recently delivered the update for the ps3s 3d functionality. I dont know whether this applies to games but it does apply to 3d movies and such. It should work with games though and shouldnt be much of a huge hassle.
Your not long gone from it my friend, unless you regret buying a 360, lmao
@abedinthehouse
Gran Turismo 5 on the PS3 is going to have some sort of 3 screen option. GT5 has already showcased the PS3's 3d ability as well.
@erikgolson 3d yes, multi-screen no, the PS3 does not have the graphics memory or power to drive multi-screen.
@erikgolson
Forza on the 360 also has up to 4 screen feature but they do it through networked multiple consoles. I am sure this is how the ps3 would also do it since it only has 1 video port.
.......................thats it, forget college, I can take a year or two off...im soo using that money for this rig!
"or trying to figure out how to walk"
lawl
@Weber 09
roll on floor laughing.....if she could figure out how to roll that is..
@abedinthehouse
jk, we love u JS
okay ATI, Show me 6 screen 3D.
@dds1043
My thoughts exactly!
ATI still has yet to get into 3D.....I think, someone correct me if im wrong
@dds1043
Seriously. Eyefinity 6 monitors + DX11 + 3D = eyegasm.
im sea sick
Woaw, can you see bullets flying at you????
can you pretend to dodge the bullets as they fly by you Matrix style??
Bad Company 2 FTW
In case people were wondering. The screen shifts are happening way faster than the camera can capture. So it looks dizzying in the video, but not in real life.
@xKNGx
Don't think so... it's probably that the camera samples out of sync with the frame rate. In that respect cameras are better than the human eye, which is why old CRT monitors appear to 'roll' in videos of them, the human eye can't process the change in image fast enough to see it. Birds can though, to a pigeon a 24fps movie would look like a flipbook.
Fuuuuuuuuuck.
Seeing all that made me wish I had the rig to play BC2 like that :(.
We're going to need SLI Fermi for this.
@YpoCaramel This is actually backwards compatible and will be available with the first driver release alongside the Fermi/4xx Series.
@geck0 you still need an SLi setup for it though which means expensive since it's GTX 280 SLI and up.
@geck0 I meant in power. IIRC nvidia 3D cuts your framerate in half and there's three screens, so roughly 6x the power required. Especially if Crysis is involved.
I love PC gaming being able to do crazy stuff like this. Damn shame its hurting a bit right now, getting bad news as of late like losing Dead Space 2, Alan Wake, etc. and console gaming is much more popular than PC gaming.
@RKN
Consoles are for the general public, they're popular because they're user friendly and doesn't require much PC knowledge like setting drivers and optimization. PC gaming are for the enthusiasts and undeniably light years ahead of the console. Picture this, the PS3's graphic chip is equivalent to the GeForce 76/7800 series while in this generation we're talking about 500 something cores for the GTX-470/480. It's at least 3 generations ahead. I think PC gaming software isn't catching up with the hardware race as I don't quite see it utilizing all it's juice for a particular title. There's still a lot of room for more monster visuals and by then one could truly see the difference big enough from the PC platform.
@andyusa I just wish developers and publishers would give it more love and the pirates would stop hurting the PC. It has so much potential and power. : (
They said the rig is running 480s in the video, not 280s.
I need to play BC2 like this.
Way to kill your eye faster. I preferred to kill my eye the old stlye ty.
In the video he says "sli system with 2 gtx 480 GPU's"
eh, what about us weird people who still have prescription glasses? I can't see those 3d ones sitting comfortably over them. Nor can I see prescription 3d glasses be affordable. Maybe some day. Till then I really want to try doubling down on the glasses, because it looks awesome.
@taciturnforsale
contacts?
3d vision glasses fit fine over glasses. I wear contacts 90% of the time but I have tried with my glasses to put the 3d vision glasses over them and it's very comfy.
Any idea if the new GeForce GTX 480 Gpu will over power my ati 5970? much appreciated.
@BrownSound
Everyone is expecting the GTX 480 to be superior to the 5870, which would by extension mean a dual GPU fermi setup would beat the 5970.
Why do you care though, the 5970 can run anything even at massive res.
@fel
just interested. I was a Nvidea fan for a while before. thx
@BrownSound 5850
So was the setup 2x GTX 260 or 2x Fermi? Honestly either would work, just curious.
