NVIDIA says Optimus 'works perfectly' with Intel Wireless Display
Intel's Wireless Display technology is undoubtedly impressive, but it does place a few specific requirements on the gear you're able to use with it (mostly involving Intel hardware). As it happens, while Intel may not be talking it up (we can't imagine why not), NVIDIA says that WiDi also 'works perfectly' with its Optimus discrete graphics technology. The two obviously weren't designed to be compatible from the start, but NVIDIA says it "just works," and doesn't require any software or hardware changes. That's apparently due to the unique way that Optimus interfaces with the integrated Intel graphics in a laptop, which effectively acts as a bridge between the WiDi system and the GPU, and makes it the only discrete GPU that will work with WiDi. Head on past the break to see the magic happen on video.

Wow, this is just like Stargate SG1 where they connect a laptop to some weird alien device and it just magically works.
@(Unverified) All alien species like to keep compliant with Nvidia specifications.
Keep the intergalactic economy stable :P
@(Unverified) I was given the demo of Optimus on ASUS’s new UL50Vf Optimus-powered laptop. While playing some HD video content and a few games, battery life went to a little over 3 hours. After we stopped playing video and games, sat a bit and chatted, we checked the battery life and it went up to 8 hours. I just thought it was pretty awesome: http://bit.ly/nvidia-optimus-examined
@KupoCheer
ROFL OMGGGG I got a huge laugh out of the top two comments
I was thinking the other day -- I wish the EEEKeyboard had wireless display -- that would be so awesome; would be the perfect companion for any HDTV. But I do think WiDi needs to evolve a bit more for more devices to start using it. As it stands right now, the time lag makes playing games or any real-time interactive application completely useless with WiDi. Watching movies and surfing the web, yeah that's fine.
nVIDIA has one hell of a winner on its hands with Optimus. I would love to have this on my desktop with a GTX480. Just the thought of a completely silent desktop when just messing around is awesome.
@Ruben
Same idea. Googled and found this post.
I see two options:
1. Core i3 or i5 with IGP + GTX4xx
2. a small discrete card like ion2 + GTX4xx
So Optimus works great, I wish I could say the same about Fermi...
@r3loaded
oh so youve used Fermi?
IS THERE STILL NO WAY TO GO FROM TV TO LAPTOP WIRELESSLY ! ? ! ?
@Philip Han
There is. It's called a webcam.
I don't get this...the intel IGPs that support wireless displays also have the capability to decode h.264 video so why would you need a second discrete GPU if you just want to stream wireless movies? They should show off gaming or something in this case.
@tekdemon
like someone commented before, the problem my friend is : THE LAG!!!!1
@tekdemon The point to me really isn't using them in combination, but having them both on the same system for separate use cases. Before this, all widi pc's were dependant on crappy integrated gpu's, or the never utilized switchable graphics.
@tekdemon Oh yeh, and flash
Guys, I`m still curious to know: does it means that there is no need in crappy Blue Label laptops from bestbuy and I can use WiDi with ANY notebook featured with i3 or i5 cpu, nVidia Optimus and Intel Centrino Advanced-N 6200 adapter? Tnx for the complete answer in advance.
