Viliv S10 Blade tablet unboxed and multitouched (video)
Viliv's latest touchable objet d'gadget is the S10 Blade convertible tablet, a slim and sophisticated little thing that looks like it will elevate the company out of the ultraportable business and into the realm of things that take up a little bit more room in your messenger bag. Chippy over at UMPCPortal was granted access to a pre-production unit and has delivered this exhaustive unboxing and hands-on video, featuring no less than two minutes of multitouch scribbling. The device looks like it's a very good size, the form factor looks simple and solid and, with an MSRP starting at just $699, we're quite eager to see how it holds up in a full review. All in good time, readers. All in good time.

touch is good
@dattebayo Nice, not $700 nice.
@dattebayo Chippy rules! his channel: http://www.youtube.com/user/stevechippy
@dattebayo
That's what HE said
@touchmygadget I hope she DIDN'T say that otherwise I'll dump that bitch for not being funny.
Definitely looks pretty shweeet. Keyboard looks pretty usable too. Now that I've gone through about 5 netbooks, I'd say the one thing that makes the biggest different is the keyboard...
...and discreet graphics...
not a fan of resistive touch so 90s...
@Bublik25
who cares whether it's resistive or capacitive (or inductive) if it functions well...
@patmo141
People who don't understand the actual differences between the two ...
@jon we need capacitive duh multitouch is so hip n u can draw wif 25 fingers at once right VERY USEFUL!!
I'll wait for a proper stylus and OS-integrated digitizer, thanks.
A touch-enabled netbook for "only" $700?
I'm afraid we forgot how it all started with EEE PC for $200...
I want my Android tablet for $100...
@(Unverified)
I want my MTV.
@(Unverified) An android tablet for 100 bucks would be a waste of 100 bucks. You can't even buy an Android phone for that little, what makes you think you'd be getting a sweet machine for 100 bucks? You can't even get a usable (keyword "usable") Asian knockoff for 100 bucks.
"multitouched" has a creepy side to it.
Wouldn't you just buy an iPad for $500?
@Jacob Apple Geek
No.
@jon Well for the money I would rather have an iPad. But that is just a matter of opninion.
@Jacob Apple Geek
Do people have to bring up the iPad on every single god damn tablet article (even when it is targeting a different market)?
@jakey
Yep, that's what insecurity looks like.
@Jacob Apple Geek
Opinions are stupid
@yulebellow
LOL
thanks for getting me in trouble at work, not supposed to browse this crap...
Not if you want to tether your iPhone - this should do it.
It kind of looks like a kids toy like the fake computers they sell for kids :/
700$ for multitouch? Not gonna happen.
Just put Linux on this baby.Maybe Fedora 12 ant you'll see what multi touch means,....no kidding I tried, it's super sweet :D

Wow, looks like Apple's nightmare on packaging.
throw in an nvidia ion or ion2 platform in there, a capacitive multitouch screen and 2-3 gb ddr3 ram a bigger trackpad and HDMI then you got a deal.
this is running on an atom processor lol so what to expect.
@jdm28690 : Like most netbooks out there? You don't need a whole lot of processing power to handle resistive touch. Palm did it quite well with 25mhz Dragonball processors 12 years ago. And for everyone else, you don't need capacitive touch if you have a notebook. It raises the cost of the screen dramatically, has issues with temperature, and you're using a netbook. There's a touchpad down there. You can use that too. And a full keyboard. Capacitive at that point would be almost overkill and would probably raise the base price another 200 bucks at least. The point is to allow a user to draw on the screen with their fingertips or a stylus, not to flick and pinch their way around and tire their arms out while that keyboard is sitting right there with those handy wrist rests and touchpad.
@zullnero
You sound like you'd get tired breathing
What's the point? What's the point of "multi-touch" if usability is not better than the standard keyboard/touchpad?
Well thats not to bad considering its a 1.6 Atom but it appears a little unresponsive, and weird multitouch. I think I'll stick with saving up for my hp.
@dkirby Theres a 2.0 ghz version if your interested.
@leykis101
I'd rather have a proper OS, multitasking, ability to install whatever I want, a hardware keyboard...
"Finally a netbook I can use"
- Freddy Krueger
@PhoenixFox And I would rather have a reliable Ipad with SSD millions of apps a capacitive screen with great battery life and thinner than a book.
@MoonWalkerCTE Lets not forget LED backlighting and IPS touchscreen technology.
@MoonWalkerCTE
The iPad/iPhone/iPodTouch doesn't have anything even approaching a single million apps let alone millions, plural.
@MoonWalkerCTE
This has LED B\L, it's available with an SSD, it runs windows so there probably are millions of programs, rather than 1/10 that number of apps.
And you are aware that IPS has nothing to do with touch screen technology, aren't you?
THE CLAW
@jon
ips has to do with the display quality.
@leykis101
Um, the tablet PC market has been sucking for the last ten years. Apple is the only company doing things differently.
Windows Tablet= same old crap that hasn't sold for ten years and shows no sign of changing.
iPad= a new approach to the slate tablet market
@Liquidmark
Thank you for that, though perhaps you should direct your response to someone who doesn't know what they're talking about.
i.e. the person I was talking to.
@jon
Hey, you were talking about IPS like it doesn't matter.
I'm sorry, some people prefer to have excellent color clarity and viewing angles on their devices. Guess you didn't know that.
Watching this with the transcribed captions made me wtf
@jon
I'm sorry if I hurt your feelings, but please, point out where exactly where I even suggested, let alone said, that IPS was unimportant.
I was trying to teach him something, but I guess you didn't know that either.
Let's see if Apple sues over some patent infringement (eg. multitouch)!
"Multitouched"
Damn it Engadget, I thought you were better than that.
but i feel..
@Liquidmark
What is the Courier? MS is paving a new direction in 'tablet style' computing, and it looks to be a whole lot better than Apple's offerings.
