iPad trainspotters divine e-book prices, My Documents and more from Oscar night commercial
Trainspotters, eagle-eyed bloggers, and tech detectives of all stripes have had a field day with last night's iPad commercial. At the very least, we got a pretty good look at some e-book prices, ranging from Ted Kennedy's True Compass: A Memoir ($14.99) to Three Cups of Tea: One Man's Journey to Change the World... One Child at a Time by Greg Mortenson and David Oliver Relin ($7.99). All gripping reads, for sure, and all more expensive than Amazon. In addition to all that, TUAW has made note of a New York Times button, possibly to bring up NYT bestsellers in the iBookstore. Delving deeper into the UI, a look at the Pages iWork app has revealed a button labeled My Documents (where have we heard that one before?). But Oscar night is not the only place for iPad leaks: according to a tipster named James Barcellano, close viewing of the iPad keynote video has revealed an "Open In..." button during the viewing of a PDF attachment in mail. Perhaps this is an indication that the device's file system will be a tad more open than we were expecting. Or maybe not! You know how these things go. One more pic after the break.

It'll be popular with Trekkies.
"Here's that report you wanted Captain Picard."
Way to lie or just be very inapt at research. True Compass: A Memoir is way more expensive on the kindle and Three Cups of Tea: One Man's Journey to Change the World... One Child at a Time isn't even sold in the kindle store. Maybe do a minimal amount of research next time. Oh wait you just wanted a reason to bash apple thats why you lied.
I am so waiting for the HP slate. Don't get me wrong, I have an iphone and I love it but I waited until the 3G to get it... I feel the same way with the ipad. The first version is really not that appealing... I'd rather wait for the next one... especially at that price...but I guess I will probably go to the apple store to play with it... Maybe then I'll change my mind... if it can be jailbroken, of course...
@Garmac
Why does it have to be jailbroken?
Wow, this obsession people have with Apple has really sunk to new lows...

You're welcome.
@Jack
Brilliant move. Now there's ... no news .
LMFAO
Don't know about you, but when I asked if anyone was getting the iPad at the Oscars party I was at, which had more than a few Mac-o-philes in the crowd, everyone said "No!" Responses ranged from "What do I need a bigger iPhone for?" to "1st gen always sucks" to "I use tampons, not maxi pads."
As much as the media is pushing the iPad to be an ebook reader, that certainly doesn't seem to be on the mind of the average iPhone user.
@cherryboom
Exactly. If they're ignorant enough to think this is a big iPhone, of course they don't want one. It's not.
Damn it I wish this thing had MULTITASKING........stupid apple.....and FLASH!
@TheSunman89
You what has both? Your mom.
@Wesscoast
lol.
@TheSunman89
What do you think you need flash for? And how would multitasking help? Keeping in mind that Apple's apps do multitask and run in the background.
@Jack
Haven't you heard? If you can't listen to Pandora and browse the internet, you might as well not even bother :)
Pretty soon they WILL call all retailers to see if they will be saying like " DO YOU HAVE ANY IPADS?", and I tell em' no only at the APPLE STORE.
First I own every almost every Dumb product - Macbook, 16 Gig iPhone, 64 Gig iPod Touch, Apple TV and will probably be stupid enough to buy an iPad. But I find the Apple Fanoyism pretty sickening and Obsessing over some lame 30 second commercial to the point where you dissecting literally every second is just ridiculous.
@MikeMc I think there is no doubt that Apple has revolutionized the industry. The iPhone's interface, and capacitive touchscreen and full HTML browser changed the smartphone industry forever. And quite frankly, it took about 2 or 3 years for the rest of the industry to catch up. Apple is a great innovator, but they're making me a bit angry....I'm tired of all these great utilities like Google Voice being pulled from the app store for pure politics, or banning private APIs, like a flashlight app that lowers brightness after it is closed, just to be an ass. I'll probably end up going to a Nexus One....unless the software for the iPad is incredibly useful, or they finally get it together with iPhone 4.
The "My Documents" button in Pages is not new - it was there in the January demo by Phil Schiller. Similarly Keynote has a "My Presentations" button and Numbers has a "My Spreadsheets" button.
Jobs you better have my tablet by april basterd!
