Like clockwork, we've just been dropped a line by T-Mobile USA asking us to join them for a very special media event to check out the
HTC HD2 -- "a larger than life entertainment powerhouse" -- in fabulous New York City on the evening of March 16. That lines up nicely with the company's
earlier assurances that we'd see a launch in March -- but what day in March, exactly? Well, we're hearing from a number of tipsters (including trusted sources) that the 24th is the day this thing breaks loose at retail, so set your watches and calendars accordingly -- assuming you haven't been wooed into
Windows Phone 7 Series' tender, loving grasp, that is.
Update: MobiTV -- which has an app bundled with T-Mobile's version of the HD2 --
says the HD2 is launching on the 23rd, and frankly, they're probably in a position to know. Thanks, Stephen!
I'm still waiting to see if this has UMA.Does anyone know it it will?
Shame the HD2 only has an older TFT LCD backlit screen, when most of HTC's higher end phones (like the Nexus One) have brighter AMOLED screens.
So I stopped by my local t-mob store to see if I could get a release date from them, and low and behold two of the employees already had them!!!! They let me take a look, but would not let me know a release date. After getting my g1 the day after the press conference and see that the employees already have them, the 17th is looking more realistic. They told me they do not expect to have more than 5 for their location. I might have to camp out.
BTW sweet phone. I was kind of surprised about me not being surprised about the size. Engadget has spoiled me too much. It seemed smaller than I thought it would be. It makes me believe the mini5 could work as a phone. Also it the most solid phone I have ever held.
I suddenly feel really special about what I got to play with extensively..

Um and yeah that is me watching transformers 2 revenge of the fallen..aw yeah boi.
Oh dear. I bought one of these last weekend. Its going straight back & will swap it for another Android phone. I fell for the magnificent screen & the speed...but after three days of using it, I have to send it back or I'll throw it at the wall.
There I was thinking that WinMo6.5 HAD to be better than 6.1...didnt it ?
Errrmmm No. Dreadful, awful & worse, since you cant 'application swap' without digging three miles into the settings menu. Cut & paste ? You are joking, you might as well get your pencil out & write down the text you want to paste, because it will take you an age to get WinMo to accept that dragging your finger along a series of words is supposed to highlight them. Take it from me. It doesnt.
Lastly, the phone is just TOO big. I love the screen & it displays photos brilliantly, but its just too large to hold in one hand & compose a text message, or hold in one hand & not feel as if its going to jump out & smash itself on the floor at any moment.
I gave it a chance & it poked its tongue out at me & said 'stuff you'.
Bye Bye WinMo.
@shawfield
Oh yes...also, am I the only one who doesnt like the 'sense' interface ?
Give me standard Android anyday.
Just bought one from Walmart. No out of the box support for Pandora; might be deal breaker for me. I like the keyboard over Iphone and Sense is pretty sweet. Win7 does not recognize the device. Man it is always something. Camera and video work really well and speaker plays louder then Iphone. Construction of the phone is very good and the LED flash is surprisingly bright. If I can get Pandora to work I will be a happy camper.
