The iPad introduction video, as captioned by Google
Hey remember that feel-good iPad introduction video with the Ben Folds cover of "In Between Days" Apple posted on launch day? Yeah, well you're going to remember the hell out of it once you watch it with Google's auto-transcription enabled on YouTube. Trust us, you owe yourself these few moments of absurdity.

I can't turn it on cause they're doing maintenance on the site. Awesome.
@statelypenguin
Its ironic how apple put this up on youtube. Seeing as how their iPad users will never know how fail it is according to Google's translations because they cant play flash videos on their new $500+ gadget.
@abedinthehouse Except that they can watch YouTube videos, and Google recently added the HTML 5 video canvas to YouTube which Safari supports as well.
@abedinthehouse
I just realized 2 big things:
1. Nilay always comes with the best & most talked about posts.
2. If the iPad is so damn thin, why is it the iPhone is so damn thicker..besides the fact that it came out last year, I'm sure they didn't just start working on the iPad this year, and its been under construction when the 3GS came out.
@abedinthehouse Wow I guess your right cause the iPhone can't even watch YouTube huh. Oh wait they can cause all YouTube videos can be watched without flash don't be a moron go troll somewhere else.
reminds me of happy in paraguay.

@angermeans
lol relaxx, damn im not trolling idiot. i forgot youtube switched, I was talking about in general though...as in when the iPhone first came out....anyway
"We looked at the device and we decided, lets redesign it all" -- Actual quote from the video (not translation)
-----sooo, since when did "redesign it all" mean make it larger and look and do almost the same thing as the iPhone?
@abedinthehouse Youtube didn't switch. It just uses a Google YouTube app in order to play videos. Android, WebOS all have the same app; obviously they won't need it anymore with Flash coming, but it'll likely stay since it's easier to navigate.
@TheGM
I stand corrected, need to remember that..-looking back at the actual video itself, apple exaggerates soo much, its not even funny.
@abedinthehouse
Obviously, you are unaware that you also play all of YouTube videos in html 5...
Check out the beta capabilities...
@thrillchuckles
A fellow DJO fan! Maybe we can have some apple juice sometime and listen to Zeppelin.
@abedinthehouse
Nah, not troll, after all you can't watch the vid with captions On an iPhone at least to my 10sec of attempt
@abedinthehouse The iPhone played YouTube from launch.
@abedinthehouse
The reason the iPad is so much thinner is because it has much more space to work with, more square inches for components? Think about it man, it's not that hard of a concept
@abedinthehouse um... The iPhones always been able to watch YouTube videos, via the YouTube app or the mobile site.
@abedinthehouse No, you're still trolling. The iPhone has been able to watch YouTube since launch day. The little icon that says "YouTube"? That's the one.
@abedinthehouse Do you bump your head a lot? You Tube has been running html5 for months. I had to opt in, not for the novelty, but because Flash consistently crashes Chrome. Yes, YouTube consistently crashes Google CHrome. How is that for irony.
@statelypenguin
apple sure knows how to market their products...but sorry still wouldn't pull a trigger for it.
@youngluck
Do you mob even read the comments or just leap at the first thing.
Abeinthehouse well cleared themselves.
People are so hair trigger it takes nothing to end up downranked into a ban round this place.
And I repeat even though no one will get to this comment before having a freak out... You can't watch the captions on an iPhone so from an ON TOPIC angle you'd have to say the iPhone can't play this video as referred to in the article!
@abedinthehouse
The iPad has more flat space than the iPhone/iPod Touch. There isn't that much of a difference hardware wise so they can just say the hardware out instead of trying to cram it into a small form factor.
I don't know anything about build mobile products but that seems logical to me.
@statelypenguin
umm lazy eye O.o
Listen to 3:03
" Every one of your albums their just a stack of photos... and you can just polls show clinton key in nasdaq in children... I look upon her votes"
ONE MORE!
"We traded McCain on the other, I thought he'd ever seen him before"
and
"And not only can you read books on it, what do you actually flips over to repeal a book store behind. With half a finger, you can download a book and police are already treating it"
I should use this youtube captioner on Metallica. The misheard lyrics will be truly awesome! :)
@cherrycolens
right, like that awesome "i phone killer"-phone that is driving people crazy because its so shitty?
@abedinthehouse
"If the iPad is so damn thin, why is it the iPhone is so damn thicker..besides the fact that it came out last year, I'm sure they didn't just start working on the iPad this year, and its been under construction when the 3GS came out"
The Ipad is 13.4mm thick
The Iphone is 12.3mm thick
you only think its thinner because everything else on the device is bigger.
@MizuInOz
Yeah, but not the NYTIMES. Check out 2:09. Theres the little blue cube where the video is supposed to be because there is no flash on the ipad. Haha.
@TheGM
The iphone can play youtube videos because that part of the web decided to abandon device neutral standards and cater to a particular specific device. The iphone can play youtube videos because Apple has already managed to balkanize the web to some extent.
Now they want to balkanize it even further.
Apple fanboys are bragging about taking us back to the 80s.
@youngluck
how do you use HTML5 for youtube vids on chrome? it keep scrashin from flash.
btw chrome dictioanry didnt recognise youtube, hows that for more irony
I almost had a orgasm laughing so hard!
@ashleythehottiest
is that a flash video on youtube?
oh wow..
@ashleythehotties
1:55 WTF is up with teh creeEEEeppyyy eyes?!?
@Twitchy
RDF side effect..
@Twitchy
Indeed, I got too scared to finish the video because those people are way creepy. Is Apple a cult or a company?
@Abe Yep... it's THE best way to look at the web... except... ooops... we don't support Flash. DUH.
Yeah, apple people creep me out... WEIRD. Must be something the put in the water up there...
goddamn the world. youtube fails now. of course
@peaches
And isn't the background music in this video Ben Folds covering The Cure's "In Between Days"?
Not "Just Like Heaven"...
@DeceaseFree Yes, I know. That's probably the single most embarrassing mistake I've ever made on this site -- I've loved the Cure since I was 14 years old, dammit.
2:23 "[The iPad] Is a world class female"
@The Geek 3:38 "There is no joy"
@The Geek 4:23 "The police are treating it"
@The Geek "Police in two hours. Oh no i can't"
@The Geek 2:25 "it's incredibly fun but very productive" (with regards to the female)
apple has invented the perfect wife!!!
@The Geek It's incredibly fun...
@Wildman I'll take two
@The Geek
I think Google's trying to tell Apple something.
1:18
"We looked at the device UNdecided to redesign"
@The Geek 0:39 "we wanted to take over"
Freudian slip?
@Wildman
2:29 "and it's fun because.. you're too tall to him"
@Special Agent Steve Or signs of self-awareness?
Apple: "... a whole new gold rush for developers."
