We've all had a feeling that Microsoft is holding back some pretty big surprises (or at least completely reasonable revelations) when it comes to
Windows Phone 7 Series and gaming, and here at GDC this week it sounds like we're going to get a little glimpse into that. Microsoft is unveiling its new
XNA Game Studio 4.0, which lets developers work on games for Windows Phone 7 Series, Xbox 360 and Windows PC. The
integration with Visual Studio 2010 that we saw the other day allows developers to build a single project and then make slight modifications to let it run on each platform respectively. Most importantly, Microsoft specifically mentions that 4.0 will include hardware accelerated 3D APIs for Windows Phone 7 Series -- not stunning, giving the fact that Zune can do 3D games (and is
supported by XNA), but relieving just the same. Other phone-related tidbits are also telling: there will be fairly deep Xbox LIVE integration, including unlocking achievements from phone-based games and push notifications for asynchronous turn based gaming. Hopefully we can get some real live multiplayer gaming going as well, but there's no mention of that just yet. Microsoft promises "much, much more" will be revealed at MIX 2010, but for now we're gonna dig for all we can here at GDC.
Let's talk about what games we want on the wp7.
And please do not port those shitty appsgames from crapple, but lets do some real games.
So,I want SSX on wp7.
Guys give me your top 3 list of games you want...
@drakie
1. Puerto Rico
2. Quake Live
3. Europa Universalis
Microsoft are positioning their pieces for the perfect attack this year. Bring on Windows 7 SP1, Office 2010, Win7Phone, Natal and Courier !!
Am i the only one that wonders why Microsoft is pushing this gaming crap? Who cares if I can transfer my XBOX 360 game to my phone. The younger generation interested in this can't afford a windows phone. What about business users who have been complaining for a long time? How good does the phone do with syncing up to exchange? How easily can I create a dashboard general sales report application?

Gibber. Just team this gaming xperience with Tegra 2 and we could have a PSP beater on (in) our hands.
I'm still using a Sony Ericsson C902 - yes, a 'normal' phone, and really need to upgrade to a spangly smartphone. Now I feel I might as well wait for a WP7 phone with Tegra 2 before jumping in.
Oh, and I'm 38 and could care less about exchange and business reports (sorry, bowpay). I want my phone to make good phone calls, text messages, phones, music, and now games. I like the idea of showing my gamerscore to my friends and playing some nice looking games and getting achievements.
For once it all seems like FUN :)
@Lord Midas I meant PHOTOS not PHONES. D'oh!
@Lord Midas Ha! I just think this is a novelty feature of the phone. True business users [people that have real jobs] will probably play one or two games while sitting on their throne. I can't justify paying $900 for a hand held xbox that is insane. Microsoft is trying to appeal to a small market and if you go search XDA you will notice complaint after complaint with WM7. It's shame Microsoft isn't listening. I now pronounce the Company Formerly known as Microsoft as Applesoft!
