Razer and Sixense distribute SDK and FPS shooter utility through Steam
Surely you remember those Sixense motion controls that we caught lounging around at Razer's CES booth, right? Yeah. Today at the Game Developers Conference, both outfits have teamed up in order to distribute the Ultra-Precise Motion Controller SDK and FPS utility library via Steam, which should give devs the ability to create new games and port existing titles for use with the aforementioned sticks. We're told that these new tools will require "require virtually no knowledge of the inner workings of the controller," enabling coders to craft titles that take full advantage of the six degrees of freedom. Will this turn the PC into the next Wii? We kind of doubt it, but at least someone's looking out for non-console gamers who have a secret obsession with Nintendo's Wiimote.

aww yeahhhh
gordan freeman that shit
That game looks fun
I think it needs a mouse in one hand and a wiimote in the other :)
For moderate to hardcore gamers this looks looks like it could be a huge success assuming the hardware quality is up to snuff. For the more casual gamers they're trying to lure away from the Wii, I doubt many users would be willing or able to install/integrate/configure/troubleshoot the software and the hardware involved. This may sound cynical but we live in a world with kiosks that charge $5 to pair your bluetooth headset to cell phone... and they get a lot of repeat business.
@soypancho
Hardcore gamers have pretty much universally rejected motion based controls. Just look at how poorly FPS's sell on the Wii.
@Delta Hardcore gamers haven't necessarily avoided the wii because of it's motion based controls. I think the relatively poor graphics performance is a more likely cause.
What we really need is some PC version of Project Natal, assuming you can't just directly plug it into your PC and assume Win7 will find the drivers for it like MSFT's older camera or controller.
This sounds good. I would not mind it but I think for PC gaming I'm gonna stick to my mouse and keyboard unless they can prove to me that this comes extremely close to K&M combo..Good idea though, keep it up Razer!
Valve should start work on SteamOS
Won't sell me unless there is a mouse or tracker ball at the least for looking around. Rest I'm really interested in trying.
if this comes for around 60 I'm all for it.
One more thing, yeah this is like Wii controller, so much closer to be a tweaked Wii controller and I so hope that they have gotten permision to mimick it or they are going to get their asses sued for big time. Just saying that companies should now keep an eye on what they make or do or they'll be Steve Jobed out of nowhere!!
We're told that these new tools will require "require virtually no knowledge of the inner workings of the controller,"
I think you've got one too many "require" in there.
But mommy the crow bar is floating on its own!
