Enjoy your CES peek at Samsung's
ultrathin 9000 series LED-lit LCD HDTV, with its
touchscreen, video displaying remote control (also available as a $350 add-on for the 7000, 8000,and 750 series televisions) and 3D capability? That's good, because bringing the 55-inch UN55C9000 home in April will cost you a cool $6,999 (the thrifty can slum it with the 46-inch version for $5,999.) Still, if you're just looking to jump in on 3D without spending the max money, the cheapest model available at first will be the standard LCD LN46C750 available in May. In between, there's all manner of LED (most of them listed above, both with and without 3D capabilities) or old-school CCFL backlit LCDs plus a healthy lineup of plasmas arriving over the next few months, so with a note that grabbing 3D Blu-ray player and display at the same time will net a couple free pairs of active shutter glasses and a copy of the
Monsters vs. Aliens 3D Blu-ray, check Samsung's site for each type to see what your budget can handle.
Who is going to buy this crap?
@Shalabi
yes specially the samsung one ?
cause they r copying sony.........
@Shalabi
Not me , my 60" kouro is gonna stay where it is for a long time still.
@Shalabi
I am. Doesnt mean im getting rid of my plasma but $1700 for new technology is actualy really "cheap" for he entry level ones. I agree that If you go for the larger ones it gets a touch out of hand, but when you like and can afford the latest and greatest why not give it a shot? (and before you make fun let me help you, yes many many times I get screwed and end up with oversized papaerweights, but the few times it works out is SO worth it
actually it's from $1200 to ridiculous.
@Slimnutz which one? Unless i'm missing a 750 model in there...
@RichardLawler the 32"
@Slimnutz dude, model #, i may be blind from looking at spec sheets but I don't see a 32-inch 750, and the UN32C6500 isn't a 3DTV.
@Slimnutz
Actually, ridiculous was the $10,000 55" screen 4 years ago.
@RichardLawler
Then your pricelist here is deceiving. There should either be another column stating 3D-capability, or take out the non-3D models.
@RichardLawler I apologize then, I assumed you were saying that whole list was 3D tv's.
@aroGADGET I'll add a note that this from the list of all LED TVs, not everyone believes the words under the picture.
@RichardLawler And unless I'm blind there is no 750 model on that chart.
@(Unverified) but there's a 750 in the post, and beyond the link for CCFL TVs. It's the cheapest 3DTV Samsung offers.
I was thinking about getting a 9000 series until just now. That price is insane. Think I'll go with the 46" 8000.
$1,699 is the limit...after that, it's all BS.
@RichardLawler - There is a 32 incher for $1,199
Sorry Samsung, I just bought one of your regular old, boring LCD HDTVs around 2 years ago and unfortunately for you I'm more then happy with it. I think I'll pass.
@Jerome36
yes u r right ........
Samsung is ugly
@XRX
Dude, you realize we can just click on your name to see your comment history, right? I'd almost say you couldn't work for Sony; you're too obvious.
Anyway, doesn't Sony still buy its LCD screens from Samsung?
I just don't see wearing special glasses to watch TV.. intrusive and frankly embarassing.
@DruKe
I do. I enjoy it at the cinema, I see not why I wouldn't at home. Especially with 3D SkySports round the corner for football matches and the PS3's 3D upgrade for gaming and Blu-Rays. I think it's brilliant.
@Almo And that's why the sell them. I just don't see myself doing it. I just hope they keep selling 'normal' screens in the future.
At those prices, going with a plasma 3D HDTV is even more of a no-brainer.
LED TV, or wait 3-5 years for AMOLED TV....oh hell, I can't wait 3-5 years for anything.
Who on earth would pay $6,000 for a 46" LCD when you could get Panasonic's top of the line 50" Plasma (that also does 3D) for $2,500? And I can guarantee you that same plasma which costs half as much (and gives you 4" more) will be rated the best tv of 2010.
@Cory Bauer
Because it's Panasonic Plasma, a lot of people shy away from them. For the main reason is people don't want Plasma, they want "El See Dee". Doesn't matter why, they just do. I'm one of those.
@Cory Bauer The only reason i can think of is that the $6000 c9000 series will be paper thin. but i'm with you. i'd own the vt25 before i bought this.
@Cory Bauer Plasma is more expensive to repair and in the long run it leaves a burn image on the screen even if the TV is off.
LCD FTW!!!
@Almo I pitty the souls who spend more than twice as much for a lesser experience. Besides the inherent benefits of plasma (off-angle viewing, natural full motion resolution, color accuracy, no clouding/flashlighing) the Panasonic VT25 plasma series is the first to incorporate black level technology from the now-deceased Pioneer Kuro series — which is said to still be the best television today despite being out of production for a year or more. That, and all reports I saw from CES said plasmas handled 3D better thanks to their .001ms response times, while LCDs still aren't fast enough even with all of their image-altering motion interpolation trickery.
@m3nphls You'd have to leave the same image on your screen more than 40% of your tv's life to get it to permanently burn in on a plasma manufactured in the past 3 years. And I don't know where you got the idea that plasmas are more expensive to repair, but 1.) ANY tv that needs repairing after 3 years is going to cost more to fix than it's worth, and 2.) you could buy TWO top of the line 50" VT25 plasmas instead of one of these 46" C9000's, and still have a THOUSAND dollars leftover.
samsung is a copycat...........
can you switch this tv into non 3d mode? lol or it is always on 3d mode?
The 240 mhtz refresh will make your face crawl. Not to mention marginal off angle viewing remains to be seen.
And this is just the beginning 3d onslaught. Just stay tuned
If the prices are that outrages then theirs no point in buying a 3DTV cause it's just a marketing scheme who the F is going to spend 6,999$ on a 55 inch? When you can get a nice price 55 in for 1,200$. Just plain stupid for them to make QUICK MONEY.
I have a question about this article along with the ESPN 3D that's coming out in July this year. It appears that the 3D tv's coming out from March through July will be the 1st gen 3D TV's at a premium price. Does this mean ESPN 3D is only geared to the rich early adopter this year? I can see the 3D prices coming down this holiday season, but not by July.
@Center
What prices are you looking at? The prices for the new 3DTVs aren't any more than last year's. And these are all MSRP, the street price will probably be even more affordable.
@BenD Well back in November 2008, I bought my LN40A650 (40" 650 series Samsung) for about $1,100. I'm hoping to get a 50" 650 series for under $2,000 this holiday season (as there is no 50" listed, I may have to pay a little extra for the 55"). Admittedly, I haven't followed the prices of TV's from MSRP to holiday pricing, but how much do you figure the UN55C6500 ($2,799 MSRP) is gonna cost this Christmas?
Normally, I am drooling over new TV technology . . . 3D tech is more of a yawn. I'm not interested in wearing and keeping up with 3D glasses in my home. Find a way to do it sans goggles then we can talk.
@Teer1998
Willing to grow an extra half-dozen eyeballs then? I know a guy...
@Almo
Make it a baker's dozen and we have a deal
These prices seem way out of line to be honest. I do happen to work at an electronics retailer in Canada and I've got retail pricing closer to 5500 CDN on the UN55C9000 in my system. Maybe they plan on updating, but those look ridiculous.
@Rideless This is MSRP so I'd expect retail prices to be lower, although $1,500+ is a big drop.
@RichardLawler
I completely agree, but that isn't even what i would consider "Street Prices"
And if I'm understanding this correctly, that is $6,999 USD, and I'm well aware that the exchange rate is such that there isn't a huge difference but taking into account today's exchange rate you are looking at $ 7,171.32 CAD. If any sales person were able to get 5,500 for that panel he'd be laughing as it would make his days sale, based on relative markup.
That's why I seem to believe these are grossly exaggerated MSRP's and I'd take them with a very large grain of salt.
I hope you enjoy the buzzing sound coming out of those Samsung's.
looks like 1200 to ridiculous to me :)
HAHA.
Do people really pay this much for LCDs when you can get a brand new Panasonic Plasma for so much less? The Panasonic TC-P50G25/G20 has a MSRP of $1,499, will probably be sold for much less, and will have a much better picture than anything on this list.
@grumbles
It won't match with the top line up led, panasonic g20 just slight improve over g10.
@techlord
You're right, it won't match it, it'll be better.
so whats the big differnce other then the remote between the 8000 and 9000
Allrighty then! And I started to believe nobody by me wanted 60" TVs anymore... Good job!
