I thought all this crap caused interference on jets? But now we're allowed bluetooth, wifi, and cell calls? So all along, this stuff wasn't really a problem? wtf
@Don Corleone The chance that devices will cause miscommunication between the plane and any grounded stations or satellites is so small that you'd need to have a microscope to see the number :P lol jk but seriously, there is no chance at all, even if everyone had a cell phone and laptop and any possible electronic device out and was using it. The reason is that the cables carrying the planes information or whatever are all insulated enough and they just don't create enough "noise". The reason for banning cell phones is because the cell phone towers would have so much trouble trying to transmit that far and the towers would get confused as to which tower your cell is using to place your call. Also your phone will use so much battery trying to locate them and will most likely have no signal. This is just using your phone's Bluetooth(hopefully 3.0 as well) to transmit your texts/data/whatever to the planes satalite(spelling?), transmit it down to the cell companies, then redirect it to the cell tower to your friend/lover. It's using methods that are cheap and effecient without asking to have 100 people on their cell phones at one time :P
For those looking for a device strictly for reading, the new Kobo is a nice little option. It's small enough to slip into a pocket, can do more with a PDF than the competition, and at $129, it's $10 cheaper than both the Nook and Kindle WiFi.
