By and large, EA Sports' Season Opener event here at GDC was underwhelming, but one glimmer of newness did manage to shine through. Nearly a year after Active hit stores (video after the break) and encouraged Wii gamers to drop those unwanted pounds before hitting the soft sand in the summer, the company has announced that Active 2.0 (a working title) is currently in development for Wii, PS3, iPod touch and iPhone. We're told that a "new suite of fitness products" will be launching in the fall, with the Active 2.0 program delivering "true fitness results by featuring an innovative wireless control system powered by new leg and arm straps with motion sensors, a heart rate monitor to capture intensity and a new online hub to track and share workout data." Outside of that, details are nonexistent (like how exactly the iPod / iPhone components will factor into this equation), though we get the feeling that Xbox 360 owners may be left out of the party. Here's hoping we're wrong.
@Kurto2021 I doubt it's a proprietary wireless issue. EA's not in the habit of passing up sales on what's obviously a multi-platform release. My guess is that EA Sports Active for 360 will be a Project Natal launch title.
No company beats EA in making complete and utter krap games, with their never ending sequels which is merely a relabeling of the game from previous year (ie. all EA sports games...).
@Dood Dude EA's been making awesome games lately, Activisions the new one to hate. EA has actually been innovating with Dead Space, Mirrors Edge, Dantes Inferno, etc. All Activision does now is churn out sequel.
@Dood i disagree, i used to hate EA, but lately they've been pushing new IPs and going against the grain with established franchises. we can thank them for Left 4 Dead, crysis, army of 2, brutal legend, bad company 2, mass effect 2, Dead Space, Portal, Skate etc, Ironically, since doing so, their sales have gone down... go figure...
Activision is the bad guy nowadays. they've milked COD, Guitar Hero, Tony Hawk, and they have a bunch of crappy licensed games. they are the new EA. plus they just fired the heads of Infinity Ward for basically refusing to milk the COD series any further.
@mhunterjr Crysis is developped by Crytek, Portal by Valve, ME2 by Bioware. EA may well be the publisher, and hopefully it didn't had anything to do with the dev. All games developped in-house by EA sucks.
This should make the exercise a lot easier. Using the Wiimote and nunchuck gets to be a pain for certain exercises with that cord in the way and having to point the Wiimote at certain times to get the game to register your moves. The less technical users have problems using the equipment to do the ecercises. You can easily get tangled up. The addition of a heart monitor could be nice as well. The game will sometimes get on you to pick up the pace when you're standing there panting like crazy. Maybe the calorie count will be more accurate as well. The one downside is the cost of all of this new stuff. They charge $20 just for a leg strap to hold the nunchuck and a cheap band. I can only imagine what the new equipment will cost.
The reason why no xbox360 support is that these devices are bluetooth, and that's something the xbox360 is lacking... It's got nothing to do with natal..

Gotta love the proprietary wireless of the xbox. Bluetooth would be lame.

@TheChaz My feelings exactly! EA will probably announce and show it first on 360(w/ Natal) at E3.
God what is this thing!????

i doubt EA is skipping over xbox360, they probably just aren't supposed to announce natal support until E3...
