Well, we'd already had a
pretty clear indication that the HTC HD2 would be launching on T-Mobile on March 24th (or possibly the 23rd), and
Laptop Magazine is now reporting that a "
very close T-Mobile source" has confirmed that the 24th is indeed the date, and that the phone will run $199 on a two-year contract (or $449 off-contract). The March 23rd date that recently cropped up is apparently just the day the MobiTV software will go live. Just as notably, Laptop also says that it has confirmed that the phone won't be upgradeable to Windows Phone 7 Series -- although, at this point, we'll have to hear that first-hand to truly put an end to the speculation. Thankfully, that should happen in just a few days.
Windows 7 Mobile will Fail even before it releaes
Really, and with a capital f? I would like to know why.
@techlord
If Sprint wants to make customers hold on buying HD2, it should give more specs and details of HTC Supersonic. Now for the same reason we might possibly see more leaks of HTC Supersonic.
@N900 I second that. I see holes in it, but if they deliver on most of what they claim it should be pretty big. You seem confident though, so please share.
@techlord
"Windows 7 Mobile will Fail even before it releaes"
Windows 7 Mobile ------ Windows Phone 7 Series
"Fail" ------- "fail" no random capitals please
"it releaes" ------- "it's released"
Your welcome :)
@Aleem
Sprint's Android version to also be launching March 24th.
Whoa whoa, I'm awake. Probably more like late July and with an ugly white backing : /
@Lubing The Tube - Great job, but you screwed up with "your" - should be "you're".
SOLD
@MRCUR
Shhhhhhh and maybe nobody will notice......
@N900 Too many syllables to say it. Most successful products and company names can be pronounced in two syllables, maybe three at worse.
@Lubing The Tube
I noticed you spelt ''Shhhhhhh'' wrong, it's spelt ''Sh''
@Lubing The Tube
Your? Come on, if you're gonna correct someone else at least make sure you get the simple stuff right yourself
@pukerocket
As much as I would have liked for you to have made a mistake your grammar is spot on. Bravo sir.
@pukerocket - Well you've spelled "going to" incorrectly and missed a period at the end of your sentence...
Man this thread got way off topic. Thanks a million, techlord. I hope you left the "E-Mail me when someone replies to this comment" box checked. =P
@MRCUR Ha mega Fail for His Post
@Aleem You're damn right! Palm also needs to make an announcement for a new device or I'm divin' into the SS....
@Aleem
Exactly. Specifically, a release date so I either get the HD2 or the Supersonic depending on how long I have to wait...
@Lubing The Tube your?
Woah, good price point. Shame about the network, though. :'(
@Alex
This on ATT would kick ass!
@kjb434
???
Would it?
@Alex - Yes it would. Bigger foot print and faster than T-MO's GSM/HSPA network...
@Frankenstein Black - So you're telling me AT&T's EDGE 2G network is faster than T-Mo's HSPA 3G!?!? You're shitting me, right?
@Alex Hye, it kinda would. AT&T is the literal butt of everyone's jokes, but if you've ever had coverage in the suburbs; zoom, 600+ KB.
Pity though, I took the cheapskates way out and am now mooching data on my 5800 through a loophole in T-Mobile's $5.99 t-zones plan. ;)
Oh oops, I forgot that this doesn't have 850 / 1900+ bands. Doh!
@MRCUR - Let's make this simple.
US 3G network size:
1st Verizon - (slow pseudo data only “3G” EVDO)
2nd AT&T - (fastest, less coverage than V’s but “true” 3G that does voice and data)
3rd Sprint - (Same tech as V’s but less coverage with the promise of WiMAX 4G)
4th T-Mobile - (Smallest 3G footprint in the US PERIOD!)
Facts my friend not fiction. So why would I buy a Ferrari (HD2 with 850/1900Mhz) to drive on a bumpy dirt road?
@Alex I love T-Mo. I get great coverage where I live and it's cheap =]
@Frankenstein Black - Uh, the HD2 doesn't have US GSM 3G bands my friend. You're not going to be cruising along on AT&T's fantastically fast 3G network with it...
(I'm not debating the speeds of the networks. I have AT&T and am always pleased with the speeds and coverage. I'm saying the HD2 is only going to run on EDGE with AT&T...)
@Alex
lol, you like Alter Bridge
@MRCUR - You are correct. I concede the point to you my friend ;^)...
@kjb434
fail
@Frankenstein Black - I'm glad we've reached an understanding.
@kjb434
I haven't seen anything wrong with T-Mo's 3G network yet.. seems pretty zippy to me..
@Frankenstein Black You're right about those facts, but I prefer paying T-Mobile HALF what I would pay on AT&T with equal features and minutes. They have better customer service and the penalty of dropping down to EDGE when I'm occasionally out in the boonies is a small price to pay for what I save, which is about $720 a year compared to AT&T.
@Frankenstein Black
I am pretty sure that Sprint's 3G coverage is 2nd, nationally. It should be
VZW
Sprint
ATT
T-Mo

@Please forgive me - but that green is mostly Verizon via expanded coverage agreement. So Sprint the 3rd impress us, bring on the 4G phones already. Sayin...
That's a good price considering the specs, but with software obsolescence literally months away, it's not really a worthwhile investment unless you're dead-est on 6.5.x.
@Leindurstit Wimpy7 won't be successful for at least one product cycle past Dec 2010. HD2 has a long life ahead.
@NuShrike
Anything to back that up? As far as I know, Apple is the only company to release revolutionary products that have huge flaws in their first generation.
@Leindurstit
No Windows Phone 7? xda-developers begs to differ
Let's face it with so many HTC WinMo phones getting to basically do anything.
Someone will definitely figure out how to get this beast working with Win7 sooner or later. I
@Dezoris I second this thought as well. Someone is gonna make it happen.
@Dezoris
Isn't WinPho 7 based on the Zune HD? Well, considering how locked down that device and OS is---nobody has yet managed to hack it---I doubt you'll be able to get that OS on the HD2.
Could have seen that coming, MS is dead set on hardware uniformity, unfortunate, but smart in the long run.
Well the sale won't go too well I guess. This was the phone I've been waiting for but I guess I'll have to wait a tad longer for an Xmas gift.
@xirsteon "This was the phone I've been waiting for but I guess I'll have to wait a tad longer..."
I feel the exact same way, but I might still get the HD2 if the guys at XDA-dev prove they can port WinPhone7 over to it. I think that would be the best of both worlds, then we could chose which OS we wanted on the phone. I just wish a copy of WP7 would hurry up and leak so XDA-Dev can get busy with it. :)
Obsolete before it even hit store. That's the way technology work these days.
@cdf74dc9
Obsolete because of WinPho 7? But that won't even be out until late this year.
Maybe it's just me but I prefer that interface versus the win7 phone's interface.
