Well, we'd already had a
pretty clear indication that the HTC HD2 would be launching on T-Mobile on March 24th (or possibly the 23rd), and
Laptop Magazine is now reporting that a "
very close T-Mobile source" has confirmed that the 24th is indeed the date, and that the phone will run $199 on a two-year contract (or $449 off-contract). The March 23rd date that recently cropped up is apparently just the day the MobiTV software will go live. Just as notably, Laptop also says that it has confirmed that the phone won't be upgradeable to Windows Phone 7 Series -- although, at this point, we'll have to hear that first-hand to truly put an end to the speculation. Thankfully, that should happen in just a few days.
I spoke to my TMob rep and she told me it wont have any prerequisite plan requirements. So I will be fine with my unlim. min./data/msg for 69.98 before 15% discount :*
Straight up, if the HD2 was running 7 I'd get it. With 6.5 on it i feel like Its outdated in a sense before it even comes out.
If I pay the $449 will they unlock it the same day? Or does it come unlocked?
@Hydra Their unlock policy says no waiting period if you bought outright... And T-Mobile usually is really friendly with unlocking their phones. Have to wait and see.
BOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO HTC You no good
U Neither TMOB
Time to look elsewhere, hmm I guess i should hold out for iphone 4
How can this be $449 off-contract, which includes the Windows Mobile license, when the Nexus One is $529 (and Android is free)?
I guess that's a testament to just how high-quality the N1 is ;)
@Johnny Rockets Probably because of the near obsolete OS. What this post doesn't mention, though, is that the HD2 actually sports 1GB of ROM and 576 MB of RAM - both more than the Nexus One, meaning the US version of the HD2 is actually the best hardware you can find on any phone on the market at the moment.
Biggest. Mistake. Ever.
Still an incredible phone, and WinMo 6.5.3 with Sense ain't bad, but the lack of a true WP7 upgrade is a joke.
After seeing this, you still doubt XDA WP7S on the HD2?
duhhhhhh
Dammit man, beautiful technology crippled once again by its subpar software. Someone, anyone! (cough *XDA* cough *HTC* cough) please reflash this damn thing with Android 2.1! It's got the specs so why the hell not!
@Caprice Dates Maybe WebOS, maybe MinMo7, but I'm getting the HD2 to get away from Android, so no thanks.
I will pick this one up. I don't really care about it not being upgradeable to W7 since there probably won't be a good W7 phone until this time next year. I will probably sell this one and get it when said W7 phone comes out. I am loving my N1, but I want to try this one too.
@mitsu8 I agree with you. I know WM7 will be flawless by a year or so. Even then, i dont really play video games. I see everyones trying to add games to their phones. I dont really care for it. I use my phone for business. My fuze has been excellent. But the HD2 is just a badass phone.
Waiting for Windows Phone 7. I was going to buy this or the Supersonic until I found out the Supersonic is MIA and this won't support WP7. After the last few days I've decided that WP7 is more important than the actual phone it comes on in many ways. I hate waiting but I hate spending money on useless gear even more.
Im looking at my Att htc fuze. Im looking at the HTc HD2 picture.. Im looking at my service. I'm looking at my friends Tmobile service.. I got 1 bar, he has 3. Hello Tmobile March 23 =)
I cannot wait!! XDA will come through for that Windows 7 upgrade and even if it doesn't, March to December is a $199.99 worthy window.
anyone knows if this phone will be locked for abroad companies. like Orange ?
@eliil1 It's been out overseas for months. I don't know if orange has it, but another carrier in your country should.
what makes me laugh is before win phone 7 announcement this phone was hot, now it will die 2 weeks after it is released
WM7...it is said that this stuff won't support multi-funtional operation, really really...disappointed
So, while other countries are getting fresh new phones (Legend, Desire, HD mini), we in the US get some leftover HD2, AFTER MS said it won't be eligible for WinPho7 upgrade.
Turns out HTC has revealed that it is working with Microsoft and there will be a Windows Mobile 7 Rom Update for the mighty HD2. No release date for now but it will be announced. This is being revealed to any HTC HD2 user that contacts HTC European support. So enough with the obsolete talk already, get it and enjoy it if you need it. It will be the first smartphone running WM 7.
@fast The T-Mo rep said the exact same thing when I went and played with this thing yesterday. He said it won't be "officially" supported by T-Mo, but HTC would release the upgrade.
@LOLtex Good to know that people are on the same page across the ocean. HTC support here is starting to release this info to customers and we can now put a rock on milking this subject. It is the status quo now, it is able to run W7, it will run W7 through a official HTC ROM.
Though I was also told there will be a ROM release before the W7 one.
Mostly some add ons and fixes. One is a documents tab on the main UI that allows you to browse all the docs on the phone, word, excel, pdf...cool stuff. Enjoy your phone in case you decide to buy it.

But im still getting it.
So If I bought one for $449. Will they also give an unlock code to use on AT&T network?
Hey, it's an upgrade over my P.O.S. Samsung from like 6 years ago.
