If Apple's website crashes, we'll never hear the end of it...
I wonder where Engadget got this picture of iPad. Like everything Apple, the picture is a lie. It depicts iPad as if it was as thin as its edge but it's not true. Its back is curvy, it has a bulge in the middle. The picture is fake.
@lilo
the device is .5 inches thick.
You know what you're getting into this time, first adopters. Don't complain when you get mildly screwed within the next year.
Ill wait for the Zune XL..........bah ha
I already got one it's called a iPhone ohhhhhhhhh ninja got served....what
@Dick Lynch
I am with ya!
A severely crippled device (no camera, usb or sd expansion) coupled with paying a premium to be first doesn't cut it for me. Lack of Multi tasking settled it for me.
However, Apple reduced prices for iPhone etc soon after launch and I expect it to happen this time around too. I say because I expect Amazon to drop price of kindle to be more competitive which will make Apple drop the price. Why pay a premium when you can wait for a few weeks and save some during these tough economic times?
Lastly, Someone with a MacBook and/or an iPhone is not likely to buy this which rules out all the fanboys. So who else is going to buy it then?
@lushootseed
Really? I will find it very useful, as I travel a lot and usually carry my laptop just so I can carry around a lot of electronic document which I have difficulty ready easily on my iPhone. The iPad is not a general computer, but it is en IO extension to my other computers. And I can do light work with it using a
"See you on the other side, chochachos."
Did you just call us big twats? :-\
ok anybody pls answer ,
i am not a tech savvy but does'nt one need a computer with itunes to transfer /sync content ( like movies ) on this thing ?
If yes, then whats the point in buying this product ?
@khanvis2009
because it's not meant to replace the computer or phone ? it's a "media consumption" device and at the same does things like browsing and email and apps )
$299.99 is so the pricepoint on this bitch.
i already bought an ipad, be it the mini version, when i bought my 3rd generation ipod touch a few months ago...
Is it just the WiFi iteration or 3g too?
Boring!!!!!!
Just set my alarm so I can order first thing at 6:30 am.

@ipadforums
slave to Jobs much?
I'm going to line up at my local store holding up a big sign saying "Suckas" and then throw some eggs.
@leykis101
Ughhh... Have you ever pre-ordered from Apple? You usually get your product a day or two before the actual release date... If not then, then on the Actual Release date... Happened with my iPhone 3GS and several of my friends phones too. They're incredibly good with pre-orders.
I am confused? they are not going to make a limited number of these devices, so why is it a big deal to pre order one? you can walk into a apple store or best-buy and get one the same day.
YES there will be dumb asses in Manhattan who will be in line, bottle necking the store but you can simply walk into another store and pick one up...
@raaaaaa Uhh, no. I'd like to see you try that though.
but DOES IT BLEND?
I point and laugh in the general direction of anyone who actually decides to get one. People... please.... really.... think about it!
@Thor e
I've got a spare $600 kicking around and I quite fancy a new gadget, why shouldn't I buy one?
Maybe if you work a few extra shifts in KFC you can afford to buy the odd treat
The only good thing about the iPad is it generates attention to this segment which will bring out a larger and, due to competition, cheaper offering in the slate segment. That's is great. Thanks, Steve.
So many people posting on Ipad threads claiming they're not gonna buy one and they're not interested.
The real reason you're not buying one is you probably can only afford a new gadget every couple of years.
It's good you guys all have a support group though
I want one. I think the iPad is going to strike it rich with an unexpected market/use. Just like iPod touch is used mostly for games. People just have to harness what a screen like this (a big touch screen, that is really mobile) can do...
I personally see this becoming a fantastic artist tool.
@Dshark
i really thought the ipad would be all artistic as well but its nothing compared to the courier.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6WYWGKnVkEw
this is actually everything i thought the ipad would be.
@liquidmonkey The courier is also nothing compared to the courier ;) In any case, the functionality showed in the Courier cartoons could be done in an iPad app or 2 (or android for that matter)- silly need for handwritten web URLs aside...

You are an idiot if in the last month you have described the iPad as a big iPod Touch.
That's like saying that you shouldn't even bother getting a laptop if you have an iPhone or iPod touch. Just about everything you can do on an iPhone, you can do on a laptop. Think about it...(from a consumer perspective, not the video editor side)
The main difference between the two is that you'd still get both because the same things that you can do on a laptop and an iPhone, you can do better on the laptop. The same applies to the iPad, and iPhone. And the whole flash situation? Flash sucks. Its an inefficient, outdated computer hog. That's why the iPad has 10 hours of battery life surfing the web....in a 9.7 inch screen...and weighs 1.5 pounds.
If you ask me, thats insane
And multitasking? It's guaranteed to be in OS 4.0 later this spring.
This is just like what everyone said about the iPhone when it came out...."You can do the same thing on your laptop, why spend $500?"
Haha funny.
@johnhmeyer123
Alright chill out. Why are you comparing the iPad to a laptop? They have nothing in common.
I agree Flash sucks, and they couldn't get the battery life they have with it enabled - but its so prevalent on the web that I would at least enjoy the CHOICE of having it on or not. Just because the software isn't good doesn't justify the fact that its not there.
This device could be view two ways-
A beefed up iPhone, with the phone part taken out.
A crippled Netbook using an upscaled phone OS, no flash, and no multitasking.
Its hilarious what people will pay good money for.
@BlackedOut It's logical to compare the iPad to a laptop in some ways, because it does have *some* of the functionality of a laptop. Aside from the obvious (web browsing, email) there is already a light office suite (iWork) as well as a "suite" of productivity apps (OmniGroup's) that will be on it. There will be *many* cases where carrying the iPad will be more practical than a laptop for the same functions you were going to use the laptop for. I know i'm several times more likely to sling an iPad on my shoulder for trips than I am a 5+ lb. laptop.
answer me this people,
schmAPPLE uses 12 year olds to build their stuff so why is it still SUPER EXPENSIVE???
I guess I can sleep in tomorrow.....in other words "not interested".
Think I'll wait for the iPad 2G.... with a bit of luck they'll have made it pocket sized, added a camera and perhaps it could even double up as a phone. Oh, wait...... :)
Seriously though with the iPad I really do feel like apple have just made a an iPhone 'prequel'. The Phantom Menace, anyone?
I'm no hater, but I just don't 'get' the iPad. BUT I'll give it a chance, after all I did quite enjoy Attack of the Clones :)
@HarpoonJoe
You just likened an iPad to one of the greatest film saga's of all time...
I don't like you.
Sorry HP Slate. Imma let you finish, but...
What strikes me most about the iPad articels on engadget, is how many people are 'not interested' in it.
These people are so 'not interested' in it that they feel the compelling need to tell the world. Repeatedly. On every article.
@GmanC
Most likely a combination of MSFT, Dell and Google employees/affiliates...would be my guess. Everything windows or android is great. It's almost too transparent what is going on. LOL
Oh my, so many post for Apple's pre-order. I thought for sure the majority of you would pick the non-Apple option at Engadget's site. I guess freaking Apple is still reeling them in. BTW... I find Flash annoying.
who wants to bet that josh will post an article on the first person to own an ipad??
Like many others on here, I'm wondering if Apples latest publicity fueled device will blend. Blendtec do us proud!
im waiting for the iBed
Washington Post reports appox 100K pre-orders filled in day 1. Not bad.
The ipad is clearly a great buy for anyone who wants an ipod touch like device but with a larger screen for reading ebooks, surfing the web and being connected to the itunes ecosystem. Given that itunes is by far the largest online media store and around 70% of mp3 players sold in the US are ipods, the success of the product seems like a safe bet.
Is the ipad a computer replacement? No. Is it an ipod extension? yes. Does it have a purpose? yes. especially if you're invested in the ipod/itunes ecosystem. Is it a viable netbook replacement? yes. if what you're interested in is multimedia, web browsing and ebook reading.
To me the biggest missing features are no integrated SD card reader and that it needs an external itunes set up for managing media. For me the later is the main reason why I see the ipad as being very much an ipod. Not a bad thing, but is what it is. It's an ipod and NOT a computer.
In any case I am not sure tablet style 'computers' will ever take off only because they have been around for years now an no one cares. They are either too under powered or too bulky....lose lose situation.
Apple may have thought the ipad through from a user experience perspective much better than anyone else. I am definitely getting one to replace my ipod touch. I already have an iphone so have a large screen version will be great. I will also retire my Kindle reader for the ipad. I also have a Sony reader which I will keep because I can rent books from libraries and has access to google's public domain library. If Apple has that support then I can retire that as well....
