Verizon's Nexus One to be sold only through Google, have Sense UI (or not)
This doesn't come as much of a surprise, but Android Central seems to have obtained a screen shot from a deep, dark, top-secret Verizon system that indicated that the upcoming CDMA version of the Nexus One will be "available only through www.Google.com/Phones." That, of course, matches T-Mobile's strategy of quietly letting Google do its thing -- and Verizon's strategy of keeping its network "open" -- so you'll just have to remember to not line up at your local store at 8PM the night before the launch, otherwise you're going to come away very, very disappointed. What's a whole lot stranger, though, is a mention that it runs HTC's Sense UI, which means one of a few things: Google's allowing carriers and manufacturers to have their way with the Android builds sold directly through its own store, the Verizon-branded Nexus One is the Incredible, or the document is just sorely confused. The way we see it, there'd simply not be enough differentiation between the Nexus One and the Incredible for them to come to market as separate products if they were both running Sense -- and besides, isn't variety the spice of life?
Update: That was quick -- it seems Verizon has already updated its specs to remove the reference to Sense and change the URL from google.com/phones to google.com/phone -- no plural. Thanks, ninjalex76!

notice in the screen grab it lists a 5mp camera, incredible is rumored to have an 8mp...please be two different phones...i want the n1 the way it is!
dear god, I hope they get rid of that absurd google ETF...
the link provided in the picture for the article is fake. It says google.com/Phones
#1 who capitalizes when unnecessary.
#2 the site to get the N1 is google.com/phone (without the S)
I would really doubt this is legit.
Oh boy, Sense UI? I've should of have waited for Verizon instead. T-Mobile 3g in my area is slower than my ATT 3g. Don't know about Verizon though.
@cdf74dc9
Tmo 3g is the slowest every where. I hope HSPA+ fixes that issue.
@305BuddyLuv
3G speeds are different area, Tmobile is nowhere near the slowest everywhere. Actually Verizon tends to be the slowest in most places, however I wouldn't hold it against them since at the very least, they have 3G in most places.
@305BuddyLuv T-Mobile's 3G speeds kick ass in the Bay Area, if you can find a fricken' signal.
Do I buy the Incredible, nexus one, or wait for winmo7?
@steakman Winmo7 won't be out for a while so I would get a n1 or a incredible
@steakman
Really depends. Nexus One is an amazing phone apparently but the older version has quite a few bugs (not sure if they've all been patched yet) so you may want to wait until some blogs review the new Verizon CDMA version to see if the issues still persist. The pros of getting a Nexus One is that it's stock android and you'll get updates MUCH faster.
The Incredible features Sense UI so if you would prefer Sense on your device (which is the best UI overlay out there imo) then that would be your best bet. You'll just be sacrificing immediate updates to new Android versions because HTC needs to make Sense work for the new versions.
WinPho7 won't be out until the end of the year, and even then, I wouldn't suggest buying one right away. It's a completely new device, completely new software and UI. Early adopters usually pay the price in the end. As amazing as WinPho7 looks now, you'll definitely wanna be patient and wait for the tech blogs to get a lot of reviews before you dive in. If anything, by the time WinPho7 is actually ready for mainstream usage (i.e. all the bugs worked out, etc), you'll be ready for a new phone.
If it does release with HTC Sense, I will be very angry. I will call google and have a few words with them.
@305BuddyLuv Yeah I am sure they will patch you right through to Eric Schmidt too
*sarcasm*
Confusing but interesting, the two phone are alike, why Verizon will have both it makes no sense, however if can have both UI into one phone, that'll be awesome.
Google UI one day and HTC UI another, I'll buy that.
Win pho 7 will have the advantage of office and exchange integration and zune and xbox media services.
I am not sure what the android differentiator will be. It's not good as a business or entertainment system
@jaffreywali
We'll have to wait and see. Android is out now, and has a decent track record. WM Phone 7 series, or whatever it's called this week, is still on the drawing board.
Exchange support will appeal to businesses... Zune/XBox will appeal to gamers. But there are tons of other people in the middle.
All I know is... the more awesome platforms... the better.
This is going to piss off a friend of mine who's been waiting to get her new Verizon phone on the whisper of a prayer that she can get a Nexus One like I have (with a new contract and a special subsidy offer that they've extended her, of some sort). If Google bungs it like they did with T-Mobile, they can kiss a lot more potential sales goodbye.
Hey guys, Android Central has updated their post about this. No Sense UI:
http://www.androidcentral.com/verizon-updates-erm-fixes-nexus-one-equipment-guide-listing
I didn't see that in there before I left work today... I wonder when it was added.
Definitely not the Incredible. They already removed Sense UI according to the update and the latest reports are saying that the Incredible will ship with an 8MP camera not 5MP's like the one listed on this page. Also, the Incredible will ship with an FM tuner. Not listed here. As cool as the N1 is, and as much as I would love to stick it to Big Red by supporting Google's open sales scheme, the Incredible is looking far too sweet to pass up.
Thats just non-sense....
I want one, NOW
did somebody say cingular?
Did you mean: Cingular
i hope they dont f it up
Is the Incredible going to have full Exchange support? Namely calendar sync without a separate app?
@notepad
Unfortunately with the nexus one, calendar synch with exchange is one problem and getting corporate contacts from exchange is another. In fact synching the corporate email has only worked with Blackberrys and iPhone for me. Not even win mo 6.5 with active synch.
Amazingly I didn't have to do anything extra on my iPhone to get corporate email server contacts to synch.
Android should focus on getting exchange server done right and to offer a great multiple media experience comparable to either the iPhone or what win pho 7 will most likely have.
@jaffreywali Htc phones with android have exvhange active sync I use i use it on my hero however not on others
What's the story with the etf? I want this, but Verizon's new etf plus Google's etf means I'm staying with my iPhone.
