Dell introduces $339 G2410H 24-inch 1080p LCD monitor, we go hands-on
Just over a year ago, Dell pushed out its latest and greatest 24-incher, the energy-sipping G2410. Today, the Round Rock powerhouse has introduced that very unit's successor (complete with a height adjustable stand), the G2410H. Still sized at 24-inches, this 1080p LCD monitor sports a variety of eco-modes, 5 millisecond response time, 160-degree (horizontal) / 170-degree (vertical) viewing angles, a native 1,920 x 1,080 resolution, ambient light sensor, 250 nits of brightness, a 1,000:1 contrast ratio and DVI / VGA inputs. We've had one in-house for around a week now, and for $339, it's not a bad replacement to that 21-inch CRT that's still weighing heavily on your desk. It's not as sharp and brilliant as the (admittedly more expensive) UltraSharp U2711, but it was certainly clear enough for the average home user. It's shipping now if you just can't resist.

I'm still on my Dell 2405fpw :)
I gotta say though, I've always been inches away from buying a newer version of my monitor every single time it has been reiterated.
But I'm going to hold out for a 24" LED IPS screen.
I have a Dell S2409W 1920x1080 that I use with my 13" MacBook Pro. It's well worth the $280 I paid for it back in August, but now it's only $200 direct from Dell. I wanted the matching Apple 24", but $899 is just laughable.
@Agent007
Laughably affordable, maybe. Compare:
HP DreamColor (superior backlight to Apple, $1949):

NEC 2490W2 ($1119):

Lacie 324 ($899):

Those are the Apple competitors, not these flimsy Dell entry-level units.

well, what do you know? I do have a 21 inch CRT beast on my table right now. I still haven't jumped on the LCD revolution, lol. Currently it is running at 1800x1440 at a nice 4x3 old school ratio and I got it for $10 off of craigslist. Granted, I am slowing killing Earth with its astronomical power draw, but with all the crappy TN panels out there I think I will keep this for a while longer.
The higher end Dell Ultrasharp consumes 57 watts. The G2410, in ambient light mode, consumes 1/4th that, at 17 watts. It won't cause a huge difference in energy bills when accounting for just one unit (about $10 annually), but if you have an office with 30 monitors, the difference works out to be $311 a year (with $0.10 a kWh). In an area like Hawaii, with 30 monitors, it'd be closer to $1,000 in annual energy savings (@ $0.28 kWh).
There is no need to mention "1080p" with a LCD (computer) screen. Just say its got "FullHD resolution" or whatever...
no hdmi
i think this monitor is muuch uch better
take look at this gentleman :

@Evoss would agree except most people report very large colour inaccuracies with the s243hl
How about dot pitch?? No one cares about this anymore?? Your lucky if a monitor actually lists this all important spec.
The dot pitch seperates the good from the really good.
Hm. To be honest I'd rather keep a 21" CRT than a TN panel. The TN on my notebook is awful (average for notebook panels though), fonts look different depending on what angle you are looking at them (the first line looks different from the last...). The other TN panel is a bit better, but image quality wise the CRT wins hands down.
That being said, the price does look rather good, and I don't mind the 16:9.
I'd love to see this side-by-side with the less trustworthy but admittedly competitively spec'd Acer T230H (touchscreen, multi-touch [worst-case, dual-], and HDMI in) ... now $350 at Fry's.

@Abe
Why do people think 16:9 is inferior? Sure it reduces vertical height but it also increase the width. If they just chopped off those 120 pixels from a 24" 1920x1200 monitor, it would no longer by 24". Rather this is more like a 25" 1920X1200 losing 120 pixels and being sold as a 24" 1920x1080.
For some a lot of users, running two applications side by side is really important and thus having a wider screen is essential. If you have a really long document, why do you need another inch of vertical space so badly? Can you really read that fast? If to see all 10 pages of an essay at the same time than why don't you get a rotating screen?
Dear VGA ports: DIE ALREADY!
They get hands-on time with a monitor and just write a single rambling paragraph? Really? .. heh.
Dell using a TF panel, what a shock!
I thought they were known for high quality products at a bargain.
My Vizio's 26 1080p + Monitor is much better that this one and right now is less than that one, it also has 2 HDMI ports and other goodies.
Yowch this monitor looks sweet.
When the U2410 drops to $450 it will be mine.
What is the actual dimensions of the LCD? In inches? Not including the stand and bezel.
Thanks,
