Lego-borne BlackBerry Tour probably still lacks WiFi
How do you know you've reached status as an internationally-recognized icon? When someone decides to make a Lego representation of you, that's when -- so our hats go off to you, BlackBerry Tour, for this distinguished accomplishment. Well-traveled Lego artist Nathan Sawaya was recently tapped to turn RIM's global CDMA traveler into a life-sized monolith of plastic bricks, though with an unusual twist: his unnamed patron wanted a working video display, too, which required some "trial and error" to integrate. It might not fit in a pocket, but we reckon you could still find a belt holster that could swallow this thing. Follow the break for video!

@abedinthehouse It was the extra keystrokes you saved by not typing "e!" that kept you FIRST, right?
@abedinthehouse
Calling all members of the Lego Fans Unit!
@abedinthehouse Giant blackberrys in a wheelbarrow are the way of the future!
@abedinthehouse I could've sworn this was a just a pixilated picture taken from an iphone-zoomed in
@engadgetcomexcludeengadget
Are you implying that midgets cant own blackberries?
@snailfur
just noticed I wrote blackberries instead of blackberrys haha! Ohh damnnn im gonna get geek abuse for that!
@snailfur
lol atleast you caught it yourself, -1. +1, you're still in balance. haha
But does it have 1080P in 3D?
@abedinthehouse
Lego=3D
Point of order: "life-sized" means "the size it would be in real life."
As in, this:
http://www.engadget.com/2009/06/12/life-sized-gundam-complete-and-no-you-cant-borrow-it/
This Blackberry is actually "larger than life," or perhaps it's "human-sized," as in:
http://www.engadget.com/2006/08/04/bandais-gundam-robot-goes-life-sized/
I wonder if that trackball will last through your entire contract.
@Edobe You beat me to it.
Cool..
But why is the browser so sucky?
They could have used electronic LEGO blocks for the phone's circuit!
I remember when it was awesome to integrate little lightbulbs into my creations, bur a phone? Freaking awesome.
But is it compatible with Bionicle????
And Mr. Ziegler, it's "LEGO", not "Lego"! Get it right. :p
Hahahahah. "problably still lacks wifi" niccce.. Lmao. Anyway, this is pretty sweet no matter what what phone it's mock-up of.
@Kibbe17
You know what's weird... you and I call the lack of wifi a deal killer, but I know a significant amount of people who have Tours and they don't seem to care... I'm sure RIM could net more customers by sticking in wifi, but the lack of wifi doesn't seem to be as damning as Engadget and other sites make it out to be.
Blurrycam strikes again! Just kidding..
@ChickenGod No, it's pixelcam!
The image looks kinda blocky...
"Life size" probably isn't exactly the words you were looking for.
At least the keyboard wil be easier to use
Hehe at first u thought it was a photoshop edit till i read the headline
no I didn't
@nicholiservia Unfortunately, some of us here care about how much our devices cost . . .
I just had my Storm replaced with the Tour. I like the higher resolution screen over the Curve, and the camera is better. I can't believe it has no Wifi :/
@nicholiservia
A lego touchscreen phone would be pretty bland
Glad they had a TV installed in it, or the 480 x 360 resolution would look bland with that size. :o
Someone has WAY too much time on their hands!
This guy is a LEGO artist, thats what he does for a living, dont
be ignorant.
If you like Lego blocks so much, why don't you buy an iPad.. Zing!
Hey, is that a banhamm..
@rkdiddy
or someone has a job that probley makes 6 figures.
When I saw the picture, I thought, "Is the picture loading?"
@Display Error
same here. and is that a samsung television i see?
@Vaio
I'm going to give you a plus, due to your ability to successfully persuade other readers and myself to switch from their Blackberries to a Nokia.
A well developed and thought out response, chap.
ppl have WAY to much free time
@Sean Connery
Yes, kind of saf indeed.
There's an error in the article. " global CDMA traveler" is a contradictio in terminus, as in most countries outside the USA there is only GSM.
@pizzaman
most =/= all
@pizzaman What they mean by that is a CDMA phone that has a GSM radio for use outside of the US. So, kind of best of both worlds. But yes, it was a not quite correct the way Mr Ziegler said it, but it makes sense to anyone who knows anything abou the Tour.
It should have been called the BrickBerry
@(Unverified)
Or "Blockberry"?
/try the veal
way cool
"...into a life-sized monolith of plastic bricks..."
So, how's that a monolith?
Kind regards,

Seriously: are they REALLY running media on this prop at the wrong aspect ratio, or is that a ham-handed Photoshop screen.
Worse: does the real Blackberry run media at the wrong aspect?
It also lacks a stable OS, a decent web browser, stable apps, reliable hardware (trackball), etc.
I never thought I would say this, however I enjoy having wifi on my phone to SAVE power... The modern mobile wifi chipsets sip much less power than their 3g conterparts...
don't people in the US have the Blackberry curve 8520!?
If you had one of these, and a MS Surface, and a bag of weed...........
Just don't go trying to play BrickBreaker on this BlackBerry. The creator may not like you too much.
The Blackberry logo looks horrible, even worse is the Verizon logo.
Wouldn't RIM want it unbranded?
After all, VZW isn't the only one carrying the Tour.
