Nexus One shipments headed to Verizon, Vodafone soon?
Not much here in the way of verifiable detail but we're hearing that a CDMAified Nexus One is en route to Verizon (or Google's warehouses, anyway) from HTC's factories. The Economic Daily News (EDN) adds that Verizon will begin to "market" Google's superphone this month or in April at the earliest which lends some credibility to that March 23rd date tossed about previously. As for the Vodafone branded handset; EDN says HTC will ship it "soon" -- something we've been hearing since January.

Moving up from my Omnia as soon as this thing is available. Whoohoo!!
@omga14
I think everyone that gets this phone is getting an upgrade. This thing should be beast. Specially on VZW's network.
Anyone who gets this on Verizon is going to have a beast of a phone on a beast of a network.
Does anyone know if my NE2 will work if this is sold through Google? I have $100 off waiting for me!
@EGamerHDK This is awesome! Who cares if I need to hang up a call if I want to surf the internet??
Like.
Any news on the possibility of this being a world phone? i.e. With GSM radio and a SIM card slot? It need not have 3G GSM radio, but at least an option to put foreign SIM cards in there!
@Maddy
no chance.
@Streetfights really?
The HTC Ozone on Verizon is a "World Edition" phone (it even has a Verizon-branded SIM card inside), as are a few of Samsung's devices. The possibility is there.
Will the Verizon Nexus One have different hardware from the one out right now or will it be exactly the same?
@einhanderkiller apparently it's going to be exactly the same. i'm hoping for small tweaks hopefully. it can't be totally exact... because if it was then there would be no wait for it to go onto vzw's network.
@EGamerHDK Yes there would be a wait. The N1 is a GSM phone that was built for T-Mobile. It won't work on VZW at all. So yeah.. there is a need for a wait.
What about AT&T? Google, have you ever thought about selling it in Stores? :D I really really want one... but I don't want to order online....
Hey Google, ever thought about the PMP business?
@Teslanaut
Nobody likes working with AT&T except Apple...
@joepesek Exactly. Why do you think that the high end offerings from HTC, Acer, Moto, Sony and Palm are on everyone else's network?
@Teslanaut
I think it'd be nice if they had demo units in stores, even if I still had to order online. I really want one of these but hate the idea of not being able to try it first.
And the Android train keeps on rolling despite what Apple wants to do to derail it
@AlienSix
Exactly. And why? More carriers. EVERY carrier. Apple should get the hint and offer their phone on more carriers.
The old argument was: "Apple would have to make a CDMA phone to work on Verizon... but the rest of the world uses GSM... so why bother..."
Well, lookie there... HTC just did it. This month, there will be a CDMA Nexus One on Verizon... and a GSM Nexus One on T-Mobile. Looks like they know how to play the game.
Your move, Apple. Quit fucking around with AT&T and do what EVERY other manufacturer does... sell your product in every possible place.
Or prepare for the Android invasion.
@Michael Scrip The Android invasion is exactly why Apple decided to go all sue happy and go after HTC, it has nothing to do with infringing patents, it has to do with Apple loosing market share to Android and if this is any indication of what Apple has planned for the Summer, I can tell you it will just be more of the same
@AlienSix
Yeah. It just seems like Apple would want to put more iPhones into people's hands... instead of trying to be the king of the courtroom.
Wouldn't that be easier? I mean... selling more phones would be better than getting all involved in pointless lawsuits.
Think about it... I bet there is a working CDMA iPhone in Apple's lab. But no... they go and sue HTC. You stay classy, Apple.
I'm not gonna lie... I'd buy an iPhone on Verizon. But, if they don't give me that option... I'll be like Leo and get a Nexus One. Even my mom has a Droid... and it's pretty nice...
@AlienSix
Agreed. Apple has maxed out in its chosen restricted market, which consists only of those who can stomach AT&T for the thing. I hope the awesome subsidies that they get paid offsets the millions of phones they could sell on Verizon.
@AlienSix: Android. Let's get the latest:
“I didn’t know that I had an older operating system until I compared it with my friends, Roark says. I didn’t know that,” he says. I think I will be pretty disappointed if I can’t upgrade to a higher version.”
Like Roark, many Android customers are discovering that their new smartphones do not have the latest version of Google’s mobile operating system.
Gee, Google. You're so advanced!
The nexus one needs to hurry up and get to AT&T, in a non-gimped non-backflop sort of way. I really hope ATT's next android phone is something on par with the n1 or droid, and not another lame low-end handset like the dell mini 3. Actually, I hope they're not building up to their top android device by releasing all the junky ones first..
@jroff You can use the N1 on AT&T, except you would be stuck with Edge speeds.
@markca
Stuck at Edge speeds... sounds like the situation for every ATT customer!
We could text and ask them, but I find that half of the texts I send to ATT friends don't arrive.
@jroff
They are supposed to be getting the Desire, Sony X10, and the Dell Mini5. The desire is basically the same as the N1, only it's being sold in store and will have the Sense UI. As for the Backflip having Yahoo as the search engine, it's not a With Google or Google Experience phone, so they could put whatever search engine they wanted on it.
@DJ Megatron
Oh weird, I actually heard opposite about the x10 - that it wasn't coming to the US at all. I'm pretty sure I'm wrong about that though.
Anyway, I really hope you're right about the desire. I'd be willing to pay full price for it if ATT kept their crapware off.
Vodafone? How about the iPhone-to-Verizon rumors?
Here's an article about it:

So, who's willing to pay full price for a phone that can only work with 1 provider in 1 country? Only in the US.
@pika2000 Pricing isn't known. I agree it would be a pretty bad idea to pay an unsubsidized price for this phone on Verizon, but hopefully Google and Verizon know that as well.
@pika2000
The people on that 1 carrier that don't plan on moving to another country?
Your move, Kasparov.
@pika2000
Not true. fyi, If you come visit us in Canada you will be on the huge Telus network.
@pika2000 Wouldn't you be able to use it on Sprint?
@pika2000
Because for almost all those people they will always be within verizon's coverage. The ones who know they need to be able to move around the world with it will get a GSM phone, which there are plenty available.
Personally, as an annoyed, angered, concerned Verizon user, I'm happy to see we finally get something better the PCD's awe inspiring Razzle or Juke.
Honestly though I wish Google had held out on Verizon and forced them to integrate SIM cards instead. Oh well. Nothing like making an hour visit to the Verizon store to get contacts switched and to activate my new phone......
@J1024 Unfortunately it omitted my code... annoyed and angered were supposed to have strike-through. :-\
@J1024
Huh??? I haven't had to go to a store to transfer contacts for years now. Sign up for MyVerizon and you can do it there. They also have this handy little application called BackupAssistant to transfer contacts between phones...
But I digress, VZW will be offering CSIMs towards the end of the year, so that takes one more of the arguments away from the GSM crowd.
@J1024
Oh, and you can activate phones on MyVerizon as well...
@NKTizzle Sorry, how much does MyVerizon cost? Maybe I'm wrong, but I'm pretty sure there's a fee for that service.
Compared to the fact that I keep an older AT&T phone lying around just in case a friend's phone dies, in which case all they have to do is stick their sim card in and they have all their contacts and a working phone.
There is no fee to use MyVerizon. You just log in to http://www.verizonwireless.com with your phone number and you can activate any Verizon-compatible phone you have lying around by typing in the ESN number located behind the battery.
@Elranzer Thanks for the info. :-)
I believe I will wait for the HTC Incredible...
@JohnMcLearran
I am right there with ya. Even if it's another 30-60 days the reported specs are too much to pass up.
@JohnMcLearran
Not to mention thou can actually demo it in store.
Can this version of the Nexus One be used on any CDMA network (besides Verizon)? If so, what do you have to do after you've bought it free-and-clear from Google?
I hope HTC fixed the small things that people complained with the N1. Also, I hope it's SIM Card Compatible. This usually wouldn't bother me but, I'm going to Europe for a few months in about a month and I really wanna use my phone there.
@EGamerHDK
It probably won't be SIM compatible. I don't have the link handy, but look at Engadget's post on the Verizon N1 making it through FCC tests...the picture of the back of the phone doesn't show a SIM Card logo, whereas the other versions we've seen did have one.
Why has this taken so long to hit Vodafone - we can buy it direct from Google and it works in Europe, by the time Vodafone finally decides to release this "soon" they will be releasing the HTC Desire and Legend what the likelyhood of people deciding on a Nexus one!?
I am seriously considering going from my Tour to this. I love the ability to use my device quickly (hardware keyboard) for the ability to have a better multimedia experience....
Ultimately it will come down to whether I can tether on the Nexus One and I can at least bear using the keyboad.
Anyone know what the return policy is on the Nexus One?
